Hi Miranda! Drinking my tea (English Afternoon w/ milk) and listening to you great reviews! I wrote down soooo many😊. Really want to read some of those "coming of age" bks. I don't usually read that genre, but they sound delightful. Words worth is one of my favorite poets and I have gathered many pictures of his lake district over many years. There are no signs of Spring yet here in Michigan, USA. The day temps are sometimes warmer, but the next day could be in the mid-high 30's. Thank you! Hello to your Mom. I love your recommendations so much! I would like to share something interesting I found. When I was reading Elizabeth and her German garden, I couldn't get rid of the silly feeling that I'm reading the thoughts of somebody who could be the Mum of Anne Shirley. I ended up researching the dates and any possible connections and here is what I found in a biography of L. M. Montgomery: "Spring was glorious that year, and the opening scenes of Anne of Green Gables were written under it's happy banner. They were also written under the felicitous influence of a popular work that Maud had picked up in the Cavendish Literary Society Library. Elizabeth von Arnim's 1898 Elizabeth and her German Garden was a thinly veiled autobiographical account of one year, from spring to spring, depicting her reveling in her secluded garden in Pomerania." from Looking for Anne of Green Gables by Irene Gammel. So Elizabeth and her German garden is a must read for Anne fans not only because it's a truly beautiful book! :)

I’m so looking forward to reading the books you listed! I’m not able to get some of them due to being in the US, but the ones I’ve read so far, I have loved. Here is a recommendation for you and other Comfort Book Club members. It’s called Martha’s Vineyard, Isle of Dreams by Susan Branch. It’s her memoir about her move to Martha’s Vineyard after her divorce and the healing that takes place there. I truly loved it and think you might too. Wishing you a good week. Hi Miranda! I am really enjoy listening to the Secret Garden audiobook! So much so, I want to purchase the book. I am wondering if you can recommend an illustrated copy. I purchased The Forever Flowers because of your recommendation on the illustration. I don't think The Secret Garden will be as beautifully illustrated but I trust your suggestions. I’ll have to look out for some of those suggestions, especially the gardening ones. I’m just about to finish reading Blooming Flowers by Kasia Boddy, great for dipping in and out of.
I have a very old copy of Elizabeth and Her German Garden that I bought for pennies at a library book sale just before the pandemic and had started it but never finished it. This must be a sign that it is time to add it to my very short TBR stack for March/April.

May I say you are looking resplendent Miranda! Must be the Spring time air! I have just finished Dear Mrs Bird and Yours Cheerfully by A.J. Pierce and I thank you so much for introducing us to this author. I also love wartime stories, London in the thirties and forties . Nancy Mitford is one of my favorite authors, I have reread The Pursuit of Love throughout the years with much pleasure. On your recommendation, I bought India Knight's book , Darling and she gets it just right..so rare in a "remake"....really loved it!
Ann Bridge on my reading list now! I had never heard of her, so thank you for the recommendation! I watched again last week The Enchanted April, I just love the story, the impact a beautiful environment, a bit of sun, make to relationships and confidence, and well being. Pollock's Spinoza then another run at the Ethics. Pseudo Dionysius and Friedman's Free To Choose. And some Aquinas academic muse to cap spring. Barzun's Dawn To Decadence with Simon Leys' equally superb The Hall of Uselessness always at bedstand. I feel as though back in college. Excellent list--I've read several, a few due to your recommendations in the past I think. I want to read Darling by India Knight but it hasn't been released in the USA and the used prices with shipping are too much for a "maybe." The library has a few other books by her, so I'll have to try one of those.

Can’t believe it’s Spring already. Already dreading the summer.
So many favourites here - I’d already planned to reread ‘The Darling Buds of May’ in the early summer, as I do each year, and also ‘The Enchanted April’ - and now I have some new potential favourites! I think you’d enjoy ‘The Gowk Storm’ by Nancy Brysson Morrison. It’s set in and around a rural, Scottish manse and follows the fortunes in love of the two eldest daughters (narrated by the youngest) during a ‘gowk storm’, which is unseasonable stormy weather in spring. The story is so compelling and her writing is beautiful. It’s like reading about a Scottish version of the Bronte sisters!
Is I Captured the Castle appropriate for an 11-13 year old? Was thinking of reading to my kids?
You're the best judge of what's suitable for your children, but I Capture the Castle is a young adult / adult book so not generally regarded as suitable.
