  • Here is my first version of an Old School 93/94 deck using the updated Restricted List for Atlantic and Swedish rule sets, Temporal Stasis! This build started with my final versions of Turbo Stasis where the plan was to aggressively lock down the board with Stasis/Winter Orb and chew up the opponent with Black Vise.
    This build plays a similar strategy but with so many Time Vaults "unlocked" it can play a more aggressive combo strategy and bypass even more of the control cards needed to buy time for a lockdown.
    Here is the current full decklist for 1.0

      Hey Edwin I honestly do t remember exactly the build. Mine revolved around stasis, kismet, twiddle, and time vault mostly. I can’t remember the creatures I used but I did use 4 mishras factories. Did not have all the power you have. I only had a mox jet at the time. I was just fascinated with the ability to pretty much lock out my opponents while taking extra turns.
      My other favorite deck back then was the always hated land destruction deck. Land destruction with tabernacle and nether voids and the abyss. People hated me lol

    • @EdwintheMagicEngineer
      @EdwintheMagicEngineer  Před 5 lety +1

      @@mojosodope45 Yeah people hate not being able to play their cards lol
      Not to beat a dead horse here, but I want to be extra clear how different this build is then previous builds of Stasis. I think that point is very much missed by most people until they really look at this list. For one thing, MOST of the time previous Stasis builds were only ever allowed to have a single Black Vise or a single Time Vault. That's a very significant difference because they are both core pieces of this build and it would NOT be the same deck without multiple copies.
      The other thing is how drastically different the play style for this build is. Typical Stasis decks had 8+ counterspells, 3-4 Disenchants, 3-4 Swords to Plowshares, Balance, Wrath of God, etc. They would also typically have Serra Angel and/or Time Elemental. They would also play Strip Mine, Time Walk, and Library of Alexandria, none of which are in my list. So the list itself turns from very traditional-defensive play to super aggressive.
      To be more clear about the play style point... if a person builds my list and attempts to pilot it like a traditional Stasis deck they will very likely lose... because it does not have enough answers and board sweeps to play the slow control game. There is only 3 counterspells, no plows, 2 disenchants, and no board sweeps in the deck. Library of Alexandria does not work in this build because you don't have 20+ turns to sit back with a full hand of cards and draw cards. You empty your hand on turns 1-3 and try to lock it all down.
      Playing against this Stasis deck is like drinking from a fire hose. It starts locking down mana immediately and SHOVING cards into your hands then you suddenly find a Black Vise around your neck and end up dead by turn 8 if possible. That's a COMPLETELY different play style then traditional Stasis decks and it seems many people miss that when they say they played a list like this 15 years ago. Most of the time... a list like this was not even legal (due to different restrictions). Besides that, I never saw aggressive Stasis decks back in the day.
      I hope that makes sense.

    • @EdwintheMagicEngineer
      @EdwintheMagicEngineer  Před 4 lety

      The black splash was never a huge problem for that deck and I really wanted my opponent to pay for the same creature multiple times. The paralyze was not just a removal... it was a trick... trying to get them to tap out to keep using the same creature. Untapped mana is THE biggest threat to a Stasis deck.
      I eventually decided I don't like The Abyss in Stasis because people hold back their creatures and keep mana untapped.
      I have a version of Stasis that I run now which seems to be working better then any previous version I had. I might make a video on it sometime.

      @@EdwintheMagicEngineer I just fail to see how Paralyze is better than Spirit Link. That always shuts down the creature, gains you life off of Serendib and Juzam AND removes the need for black. The only drawback I can think of are utility creatures but are any of those relevant?

    • @EdwintheMagicEngineer
      @EdwintheMagicEngineer  Před 4 lety

      @@jaywinner328 Spirit Link has several disadvantages for a Stasis deck over Paralyze.
      1. Remember that spirit link does not tap a creature on casting like paralyze does. A simple Disenchant makes that Serra Angel active again. With Paralyze they need the same Disenchant... AND an untap phase before they can use that Serra again.
      2. Spirit Link allows their creatures to remain blockers which stops my Mishra's Factory coming through once I have them locked.
      3. Spirit Link does not make them tap out again to use that same creature (again... remember that Stasis decks want your mana TAPPED).

    White for Kismet?.. if only there was a blue card with the same cmc that did the same thing, and was tutor-able, with say Enlightened Tutor? Which also finds, Mine, Vice, Stasis and the useless Vaults..
    As for the Vaults.. Idk where to start. Stasis does NOT need another way to take extra turns in my opinion. It's as simple as an EoT Chain of Vapour. Also, the Vapour can be used for defence and the down side is actually an upside. As you can bounce your Stasis and sac a tapped land to bounce ANOTHER TARGET. 4x Vapour is better than 4x vault+4x Twiddle (lol) and all the other jank you play ONLY because you're playing Vaults. Leaving slots for actual good cards.
    Forsaken City is a must, because of reasons. The cards you exile will be negligible. Un needed Tutors, multiple Cities, Mines, Stasis, and/or anything you don't need at the time.
    4xFow
    4xDaze Must play. Untaps your lands

    1x Map. Can find City and Tabernacle. And can be found with Enlightened Tutor. (Seems slow but isn't) When you need it, you should be able to get to it, if you dont need it, feed them to the City.
    There are MUSTPLAY cards you are missing in my opinion.
