3 minute runs one minute rest at 65 to 80 percent of maximum speed X 4, for 4 sets. Once a week wind sprints.
Hit 90% and rest longer 2-3 minutes
@@CristobalAshton 3-min on, 3-min off, repeat 5-6 times
Long runs are good for developing your aerobic system to help you sustain extended work and manage weight, and at least for me help with getting used to pushing and being uncomfortable. But you are absolutely right you need to do short hard bursts with short rests to simulate a round if you want to improve.
Better off incline walking, and then sprinting
Been boxing for four years (no fights just sparring) and I can feel the knowledge from this channel. Subscribed.
Happy to hear brother, enjoy the journey!! Check out my Chessboxing course (link in description) it will be perfect for you!
Me too! Subscribed 👍🏽
@@yaseenramseyappreciate the video, good insight.
Btw the word “versify” is not correct in the way you’re using it. The word u should be using is, diversify. Not versify. (Not a personal attack, just trying to help)
You’re right, shorts runs are better to get use to a fight tempo but i would still incorporate the 10k runs (like once or twice a week). I think long runs give you the fitness and endurance in the first place then you get your body to adapt to the frequency of fighting through sprints etc..
Yeap. My coach makes us run hills and sprints and incorporates sleds. It has made a huge difference for me.
Great coach you got!
Don't stop brother. Value is mad in these vids.
thanks bro 🥊🥊
i'm 13 years old and i do runs of 2k with just 1 sprint and resting 2-3 minutes between runs, now i will try to do more sprints, thank you! this will help me a lot improve my stamina.
Bro for this yo got a new subscriber. Thanks a lot
Very good advices, thanks
Im amateur too going into my 7th fight soon thx for the info brother it really gon make an improvement in my stamina i believe👊🏽
Love your videos bro. Keep it going!
Thank you! More to come.
Great video
This is a good video. I’ve been boxing over 8 years
I have found in the past adding hill sprints or running up steps during a 5k run of resting and sprints works wonders for fitness, 41 now and can still go hard in 4-5 2min rounds sparring, and i keep up and outrun youths playing football 😂 brilliant videos mate keep them coming 💯
Spot on mate.

Appreciate that bro!

Great video mate 👌🏽
Thanks 👍
Thanks. I used run everyday and it was good at keeping my weight down. Yet I would still be tired during the fight. I think I would overtrain. That and I learned doing roadwork is different than running. Road work you shadow box and move your arms, sprint / walk .
Love to the EARLYYY ONEESSS!!!! ✨🔗
Big respect 2 u brother
If you run long distances you build a good base so you can run faster paces and recover faster from sprints. So diversifying your runs should include long runs as well as intervals, fartleks, shorter tempo runs, 3-5ks… plus, you will have the mental health benefit of learning to hold back and conserve energy. I do high intensity sports professionally for 20 years and only 2 years ago I started feeling the difference by adding aerobic base training ✌🏾 trust me, it helps.
Great vid champ
Thanks bro!

Good information 💯
Glad you think so!
one slow 10K a week is good
This is a great video, very true indeed. I also used to make the mistake to only running 5Ks (bcs I found them more chill), and that made me lose muscle because it’s long distance and so your body believes that you don’t need it (hence y long distance runners are all skinny). My coach told me I need to go back to doing sprints immediately and they REALLY help with cardio when your sparring especially.
So yeah, more sprints than 5Ks guys 💪.
Lamppost to lamppost is a great strategy by the way. Sprint with all you’ve got from one lamppost to another then jog/walk/slow down to the next lamppost, then sprint again! Do 3 sprints in total, then walk all the way back to where you started. And do it again. I normally do 3-5 sets of these.
Yes bro.. class content 😂 🔥
Come on g, happy you’re enjoying 😁
Facts bro...I was doing the same thing. Getting gassed with my quick 5k times but still gassing out in sparring. Gotta know the 5k is more for endurance and sprints for the actual fighting cardio.
Exactly bro!! That’s why I had to share so people don’t make the same mistake!
@@yaseenramseywhat is 5k? I am new to this terminology, 5k (5kilometar or 5 km/h)?

Ameen bro. Barakalalhu fek! 🤲🏾🤲🏾
I'm in my 60s. I still box. I still sprint and I still run. Here's what I do. I live in a mountainous area surrounded by forests. There are numerous mountain bike trails in the area. I run on those. It simulates boxing because you have to be agile and have fast feet to scramble over roots, rocks, mud and up and down hills and look out for the occasional snake too! While I'm doing this, I have to duck branches and move my torso to stay balanced on my feet on the twisting trails. I throw my combinations as I run. Other days, I leave my trail shoes at home and put on my soccer shoes. I skip down one side. Do chinups and pullups and other exercises on the football goal posts (I bring my gymnastics rings). Then I sprint back down the field and do it again until I'm tired. If I feel up to it, I run up the steep hill at the end of the field a couple of times. Or I play soccer with the "kids."I also skip a lot of rope, swim, hit bags and shadow box. I try to breathe through my nose as much as possible. Resting is good but meditation is even better. I'm a counter puncher and a switch hitter. So I go over all of my combinations, traps, escapes etc. in my brain while I am meditating and practicing breath control. Keep boxing and try not to get hit. 🥊🥊😁
Even runners use sprinting to improve stamina... good content bro
I salute this brother for covering his awrah.
He's excercising outside, he wants to stay warm andd sweat.

My bro. Jazakallah Khair 🙌🏾❤️
im no boxer i dont know nothing complex about boxing and i can tell this is legit
You still have to have long slow endurance to build your heart muscles which in turn help clear out byprodutes produced from your other two energy systems you use during boxing which are both enhanced by your aerobic base and also makes training easier to recover from you have to do both and even then roadwork is just general conditioning closer to the fight you need to get more specific and use the conditioning protocols but with spar & heavy bag work
I use to do 5km as warm up before each sesh, now I do 2.5km on Treadmill.
I’m doing a moderate jog now but change the pace after every .30km, basically a HIIT but I make sure the last few k’s I have left I give it my all.
Great Video !! The reason I lost many of my amateur fights as a more „stocky“ fighter was because of my jogging instead of simulating high pressure attacks by sprinting.
That’s it bro, now you know! I’m sure you’ll perform much better next time🏆
I like sprints to warm up before I go 4 miles. Then I always like to finish off my runs with a dead sprint
I'm losing weight to get myself in shape to start boxing. Might as well learn to build up the gas tank too. I'm already able to almost triple what I could at the start. Great video!
Start as soon as you can. Don't "wait till you lose weight" the sooner you start the better off you are
very good video
Much appreciated man! More to come!
The long slow runs are a maybe once a week thing to keep your zone 2 aerobic capacity in shape. Maybe once every two weeks.
What about ----- cycling!
Subbed. Good stuff.
Great video! definitely I´m going to do more 3k-5k sprints. Just out of curiosity, what is your best 5K time?
Thanks man!!! My fastest road 5K is 18:30 mins. If I continued running 5Ks often I could definitely bring it down even more!
I like dis yoot 🔥
Hahaha come on
What would you say is a high standard or aim to get to with how many sprints you should be able to do during your 5k run? Or an amount or conditioning test that lets you know you’re in shape besides how you feeling in sparring?
ngl quality of the video is insane
I started get comfortable with 10k and planned to increase it... now you killed that 😂... 3k and 5k is another story, I will take your advices... thanks a lot
dope video bro
As you can see he’s clearly speechless 😂 great video for up and coming athletes 🔑👏
Haha! This video is tailor-made for the most exhilarating and dynamic sports. Can be useful to any athlete.
SpiderRico says I’m with you God
How much seconds should the be the sprint? Or you sprint till you get tired, jog a bit and repeat?
Hi bro hope u get back to me but ive been doing this the past week now how many sprints / 5ks should I do a week
I just run for a about 3k with but during that run I find a points in front of me where I sprint for a max speed (for example a lattern or a tree in a few meters away). After that, back to the normal pace for a few seconds and sprint for another point again. It is great for a boxing and making a running a little bit less boring.
Sounds good no objections there. Try to incorporate sprints alone at some points of your training.
5 week running programme on the CHESSBOXING 101 course 👀
May weather is know for running 7 plus miles, and rocky marciano who was known for endurance would run daily 5-15 miles especially more so as a fight neared, the guy would do half marathons the week of the fight
Pro fighters
Don't you need to build an aerobic base with longer runs too though?
You need to train all 3 of your energy systems if you want to get fit easy long run where you keep your hr from 130-160 helps train your heart to pump blood faster at the same intensity but sprints are necessary aswell i like doing 3 min fast then 1 min walking and do that like 6 times and you’ll be fucked
As a successful amateur boxer i ran 4-6 miles per day 5 days per week. The 6 miles sometimes spread over 2 sessions, frequenty not though. I think a 10k is fine but no more than once weekly and the majority at 4 miles. Also aim for a good pace at least 6.20 mile pace, anything less is just jogging and you need more than that to raise your heart rate sufficiently for extended periods and to get you breathing hard for extended periods.
Wow, sick man! How did you manage to recover for boxing sessions when running so frequently?
@@yaseenramsey i didn't regard 5 days per week as excessive to be honest. I fought at light welterweight so didn't carry a lot of body weight. Recovery was quick, just good rehydration, nutrition and sleep. I was in the military which helped a great deal.
I disagree with cutting long runs out completely. Personally I try running 5k but I also do simulated fight lengths on the bag and in sparring, as well as sprints and other types of cardio work. They all have different benefits, jumping rope is great too, swimming, cycling, you just gotta switch it up and do what works for you. Plus the best way to really get your cardio up for a fight is spar a lot. A big reason you get tired is because you are getting hit, so get used to staying calm and being able to deal with punches. But you still have to get in your road work.
I swear if I closed my eyes and listened to Yaseen and Dave I wouldn't be able to tell the Difference 😂
This guy is only half right. Building your aerobic base Will increase your ability to recover from your sprints and increase your ability to do more of the sprints . Doing both aerobic and vo2 max work is better than only doing 1 of each of them.
I learned to run from boxers in The Bahamas who have won international title fights and 100% of these fighters trained low intensity 10 mile runs at least once weekly.
Took me about a year of long slow paced runs before I figured this out. I started to do short incline runs. What do you think of hill sprints?
Good for intervals but you still need to build your ‘base’ with longer slower pace
@@HkFinn83 True. I got weak leg strength. Tbh I only do 3 round white collar level fights, so I don't need that 12 round endurance. I'm sure it helps though.
Hill sprints are great to add into your runs!
💙🌎🥊
Came from Instagram
So how many times should i run 3-5k/sprint in a week?🙏
Salvador Sánchez, Erick Morales, Julio César Chávez used to run 13-16km daily
Those are pros who fought 12 rounds
Makes you think how great some of the all time greats are or even modern boxers who can fight all 12 rounds without gassing, examples being Salvador Sanchez, Mayweather Jr, and Calzaghe who can box all night. Sanchez was special considering bro didn’t even gas after fighting for 15 rounds.
If there was a special trait I could have in boxing, it’s an endless gas tank
Literally what I’ve been looking for!!!
How to gain stamina to fight for tiiiiiime!!
No one really did a video like this until now!!! Let’s Go!!!
Respect to this Young Prospect
Haha! Glad I could help. 😁
When my coach tells me to do an hour run, I do like 12km to 12,5km. And I think thats a fairly quick pace
Are you an amateur boxer? If you are 12km runs will not help you as much as shorter 3/5km runs with a higher intensity. Simulate ring stamina, you won't be in the ring for 1 hour.
@@yaseenramsey Yes I am. And that's exactly why I watched this video. Because I know I can run pretty fast for a long time but still get gassed in sparring sessions sometimes. Watching this was a huge help, thanks.
AT how much kilometer per hour should i run ? (my max was 8km at 10km/h)
I am doing exactly what u r saying but didn’t the reasoning behind it 🤣
Salam bro, does it matter if I run on ground or on treadmill, some people say treadmills are bad cos it does some work for you
Depends on the type of run. The 5 week running programme on the ChessBoxing 101 course has everything so questions like these won't be an issue for you.

How about how to BOX like a Runner?
How about if I got runner's itch. It's so annoying cause it keep interrupting my pace
Take 2 benadryl pills, 30 mins before your run for a few days and then you should be able to run without it after that
What about shadow boxing when running as well!
Not when doing sprints. Only slow/ long runs
Yasser what did you mean
When you said take a rest between your runs
▫️did you mean run 3k then take 5mins rest then run 3k again ?
Or
▫️run 3 to 5k
2 or 3 times a week for example
So the rest here is like a day or 2 days
Would this apply to kickboxers as well?
Yeah 100% but also do upphill or stair runs.
I run 2 mins run jog back sprint 30 second rest
Wha does 3k or 5k mean? Kilometre?
2 to 3 miles. Every fast half mile is a round
would it be beneficial to donenough sprints to equal a 5K in one session?
Good Question! You want to make the sprints as dynamic as possible. Short answer is, I wouldn't go by the distance covered in my sprints as a collective but the individual sprints since I'll train my body to its fullest extent every sprint.
When I went to the home of GB boxing. I was given a 5 week running programme. THIS IS ON THE CHESSBOXING101 COURSE! it's the best guide on how to structure your sprints to get the most out of the workout.
chessboxing101.thinkific.com/courses/your-first-course
lol thought this was a footwork video
What do you mean by running 10k 3k or 5k’s does K mean miles?
Kilometres to measure the distance of the run.
The K is for kilometers. 5k is about 3 miles.
@@RedPilled-qj9mrthanks. America goes by miles and not kilometers. Thanks.
I run 6km in 25 Minutes with sprints in between
What do you mean by 10k?
Recover is VERY important. Without it, all of you’re work is for nothing!
Kettlebell swings.
Also people need to learn to BREATH with their nose, my coach told me that and it made a huge difference in sparring.
