- Head to www.squarespace.com/nostalgia... to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using code NOSTALGIANERD.... Last month, I had the opportunity to purchase a car from 1990, a Renault 19 TSE. It's a car model that has a lot of nostalgia for me, and indeed I've been was fascinated by them since the 80s. So it seemed the perfect opportunity to make a video about it. Little did I know that it would turn out to be almost an hour long.
This isn't just on a whim. I've been hankering to make a car video for ages, and now it's complete, I'm pleased I've done it. I have no idea how well it's going to go down with my subscriber base, but that's not the point. This was a labour of love, and I really enjoyed making it. It was nice to delve into something that isn't computers for a change. It was also nice to get outside and do some "proper" filming.
Anyway, even if it's not your thing, I hope you at least get something from it. Normal service to resume from the next video.
With thanks to my daughter for her excellent drone piloting skills.

This video took a tonne of time and effort, so I hope you enjoyed it. If you want more car content I suggest checking out Big Car (nnerd.es/BigCar). Also, I don't usually ask this, but if you happen to enjoy my content please consider subscribing and clicking the bell icon. I've been told many times recently that my videos aren't showing up in notifications anymore, which is a little disheartening! Thanks for watching, see you soon!
YES A CAR NOT CRAPPY SOFWARE
Love Big Car!
The ‘not showing up’ is because even fully notified subs are being curated by YT now. Sometimes it’s just a delay in notification but it’s getting more common that the video doesn’t even show up in your subs tab! I frequently (every couple of minutes) refresh my subs tab when on CZcams and I still suffer this issue. Platform seems irrelevant as for me it applies on PC, iPad and android. Kudos for the correct spelling of tonne and balls to CZcamss algorithm.
When I saw the title, I thought "What is this, Big Car?"
Same here. The actual vid is better than he would have done.
I just want to say how much I respect the fact that you made a video about something that's outside the usual purview of your show because it's something that you're currently excited about.
Hey! It's CGQ!!
The comment section here is becoming a who's who of CZcamsrs I watch
Thanks for the shout out! Does this mean I'll have to start doing computer videos now? 😉
Lol do what u love to do
(Pls don't I need my vauxhall history videos)
@@vauxhallfan676 The Chevette needs a video.
@@BigCar2 yesssss they are so rare and has some interesting story about like it went rallying and ect. But you already know about that
Technically you already made a video about computers (the one about the Ford Connect system)
@@francescolamorgese7707 I need to do one about the Ford MyTouch. I was a part of fixing it.
Shit you're the guy who outbid me on eBay for it? I was the one who bid it to £530 then woke up and saw someone had outbid me by £5. I was gonna bid higher but the seller told me it had literally 0 paperwork and needed the carb tuning. That's pretty awesome lol
It's interesting that my favorite old tech youtubers (Techmoan, VWestlife, and you) all share a significant interest in cars as well
And Technology Connections. He lives in America and has a Nissan Figaro.
Computers, cars, trains......the mainstays of all nerds back in the day
Honestly, both are technical and mechanical creations. They are the same consept, a solution for problem, but for two different purposes.
I find myself watching old two-stroke diesel generators and vintage equipment restorations way too often just because it is fascinating how people overcame problems before the current solutions came to be. A solution to problem, using the knowledge of it's time.
The retrofuture, normaly into game boys also has an interesting car project in the works
I wonder if LGR will ever go down this road...
Wait, am I watching Nostalgia Nerd?
EDIT: I've just watched the whole thing. Please, do more.
It's better than anything i've seen from nostalgia nerd. I don't want him to become next car reviewer tho LOL
Will need a lot of new patrons to afford to do that
I kept expecting to see a Hubnut appearance in this video. He'd probably appreciate a review session in Peter's 19.
I was like, wait, this isn't Big Car.
What a superb documentary! The 19 was the car from my childhood back here in Brazil.
Ours was a 1994 metallic green 1.8 RT Saloon and it was our first and 'til this day only new car.
Thank you for bring back so many sweet memories!
Definetly more Quentin Wilson than Jeremy Clarkson with your car features Sir :D
(Unless you punched Piers Morgan during a deleted scene or something)
More James may “The stars the car” than Clarkson’s “Motorworld” series
@@CricketEngland Oh Cook
Dude, I see you everywhere. I'm glad you have such good taste in videos.
I'd pay to see that.
I like Jeremy Clarkson.
The title made me think this is a Big Car upload.
I've been "Story" videos since 2015, but admittedly, not car videos! BigCar is an excellent channel.
@@Nostalgianerd A really nice guy too. He agreed to do an interview on my radio show. Very down to earth and talkative
Same here! lol When I saw the title I thought "ohhh Big Car made a long episode on Renault!". Great job Nerd!
I thought it was BigCar too!
"This week, on Big Nostalgia Moan: Mat puts a gramophone in his Smart, Andy drones on and on about MyFordTouch, and I take a long drive in an old Renault"
17:31 Wow, actual Top Gear footage. I doff my hat.
I want to see a Tefifon in a Trabant! :)
@@ikilleditwithfire This comment deserves much more love!
@@ikilleditwithfire you know that's impossible since the Trabant doesn't start when you need it to
It's really nostalgic you mentioning that a quick removing feature for your stereo was a must have back in the days given how common it was for thieves back then to break your window for it if it was shiny enough. My dad had one of those. He passed away a few days ago. I miss you dad.
The R19 was also my first car and I still love it's design. Thank you for making this, enjoyed every minute!
As a huge car enthusiast and also fellow nerd of all things electronic, AV and gaming I whole heartedly mean it when I tell you this is one of the BEST videos I’ve ever seen on CZcams. Amazing work man!
Imagining a younger Nostalgia Nerd cruising around in an old R5 is melting my wine soaked french heart.
Cocorico les amis !
Exact, je n'aurais pas spontanément fait le rapprochement "Nostalgia Nerd / Renault". / True, I wouldn't have guessed the Nerd bonded with Renault in such that way - to be honest.
@Bananeisafree Tant que la R5 est originale et pas molesté. Classic cars should stay classic.
Ok, next we want to see a nostalgia tech video from BigCar ;)
He has a second channel called Little Car where he does exactly that!
Loving the vaporwave feel of this. The fact that my parents owned a 1993 1.4 efi burgundy one just adds to the nostalgia factor. Great video, please do more of this car related stuff.
As a Renault fan sharing the same passion, this video gave me a big smile on my face.
Thank you for this video. I myself had been driving 19 (although a newer, 1993 model) for about a year without relizing how interesting the history behind this model was.
What a great video. My dad had Renaults when I was a kid, so I grew up with the brand. A couple of Renault 25's, 4 different Espace, Safrane and an Avantime. My first car was a Renault 9 GTS in red, just like the one in the video. Brilliant bit of nostalgia!
Been waiting for this, enjoying it so far and well put together Peter! Well done and thanks, mate.
Thanks for he video, Nostalgia Nerd!
My first car was a 1991 Renault 19 GTR, 1.4l 58HP. I bought it when it was 8 years old and drove it for 5 years and I still regret having sold it. Loved the brownish-grey interior with the amber lighting of the dashboard. It was rugged, reliable, very fuel efficient and I always felt safe driving it. Au revoir, mon ami!
Congratulations! What a fantastic video, made me go back in time to my first beloved car that was Renault 19 TDE. It was a fantastic car for that era. Many Thanks!!
Fantastic video, I have that Renault 19 book too!
Thank you for taking the time to make the video, lots of happy memories of being a kid being driven around in Renault 11s and 21's
2nd watch of it. Great video! It was obvious labor of love. Appreciate all the great history and information.
Your production values are near flawless and Pro-Level given niche subject matter that you clearly love, makes for very enjoyable viewing...Kudos young man...!
brillian depature from your regular content, top notch eiditing and overall quality 10/10 more!
Legendary video, loved every single second of it. Deep thanks.
I had a 1990 GTS 1.4 Energy in Shetland blue. Bought brand new as my first car. I loved it and still kinda miss it. Great car to drive and own. Watching this made me feel very nostalgic, thanks for sharing, great content!
That really was first class. Please do a special on "The Cars of Alan Partridge" next, thanks.
*COOKPASS BABTRIDGE*
Always follow your passion. To be honest I'm not super into retro computers either, I just really love hearing people talk knowledgably about what they love. Really glad you took the plunge with this!
Great video Nerd! I can't believe you found and or saved so much promotional material and old videos. Well done. The research you did was apparent for sure.
This has been a refreshing deviation from the norm. I've enjoyed this wee history lesson on the Renault 19.
You are a Nerd of Nostalgia. Showing us that nerdiness can be done in any object. This video was it. On your style, but explaining it very well. I grew with a red Renault 19 living in my street, and always looked at it as a different vehicle. Thank you! Nice video!
My familiy has a some history with Renault.
My mom learned to drive in a R5,and it was the first car for our familiy.
My grandpa always picked me up from school in his R18 (codename: The Tank).
And now I'm driving his old Clio III from 2008, which he gave to me in 2018,when I got my license.
This video brings so many memories back. Thank you ❤️
I've "liked" this video before I've even finished it!!!! It's an absolutely superb little documentary with a strong passion project theme. Love it. As a fellow nerd of both Computers, Gaming and tech just as much as Engineering, Cars and Bikes this video on your channel was an absolute treat. I'm a fairly recent subscriber and loving binge watching my way through your extensive back catalogue. Loving your work sir.
Ahh, so nice to see the Renault 19 given some love! My old 19 TS was the first car I ever bought with my own money. It had 60,000 miles on it when I got it, and I then drove it another 100,000 miles, all over the UK, from Cornwall to Scotland. I taught two of my friends to drive in it, and it helped me move house five times. It carried everything from mattresses to surfboards. In all that time, the only thing that ever went wrong was a broken fan belt. Sadly, eventually it was consumed by rust, otherwise I'm sure it would still be running today.
Thank you for your uploads
You're making some really hard times a bit more bearable
Thank you! I had a Phase 2 RSI turbo diesel in persian red. Stunning looking car. This brought back many fond memories.
Congratulations! I grow up in a "Renault home". My father had one Renault 5 (which I don't remember), One 18 (the first car I've ever remembered), not one but two Renault 21 (GTS and GTX), and his last car a Renault 21 Nevada TXE (a pioneer at its time with a digital speedometer and futuristic dashboard). During my childhood, cars and Renault were synonyms. This has been a nostalgic video without a doubt.
I didn't know you made videos about cars and I LOVE IT ! This is one of the best car documentaries I've seen on CZcams.
One of your best videos yet! Keep up the good work man
Nicely done, were it not for how you related this story via your experience, I would never have known how significant this model was back then. Thank you, very enjoyable.
Love it been subscribed to you for years. Keep up the great work fella 😃
Nice video, well done! I still have my '92 16V which I bought in 2004. Now almost 30 years old but still going strong. I will keep it forever.
Nice! I always wanted a Chamade 16v phase one in red, such a cool looking car!
True
Thank you soooo much!! This video made me pine and weep for the best car i ever owned. I trip back through time!! Thanks to you and all your cohorts. Cheers. :)))
So I just bought a 19 Chamade 16V from a scrapyard with the aim of saving it! Decided to look up videos about them and did not expect to see one from you! Great vid
I didn't expect to watch the whole thing but I did! Well done! Very interesting video.
Great video packed with content. Such a reminder of my old Clio RT with the 1.4 Energy engine which was still sweet at 100k when I sold it.
I appreciate the effort taken in pronunciation! Solid video as always.
Merci!
Awesome!!! I am a real big Renault fan too! my dad loves Renault too and we had at least a Renault in our Garage always. My youths Renault would be a renault 18 instead, but the video really made me happy and nostalgic!!! Thank you very much from a "Renolero" in Mexico.
Great vid, my brother has a top of the line 19, i couldn’t imagine the model has this much history behind it, impressive.
Watched this from beginning to end and it didn't feel like 52 minutes at all! It's so entertaining that it feels like 4 minutes even though you went through a lot of material for research purposes. Well done!
Very well done. Good for you for doing something different. Keep up the good work.
Great work, thanks for this great review !
Brilliantly put together well done.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together, makes me sad that it hasn't garnered the same amount of interest as your other videos do, but I suppose I understand why. I'm a cars and computers guy myself so I get it!
Thanks for this. Your video style translates very well into to this subject. Especially for the details I find interesting in a car.
The Nostalgia Nerd never dissapoints! Excellent video, enjoyed it very much. I also had a soft spot for renaults, and the sound of the Energy engine. The first car I have ever driven was the 1991 Renault Clio RT 1.4.
This was absolutely incredible! I'd love it if you made even more car videos! Well, honestly, when you do history documentaries of anything it turns out great.
Superb my dude!
More please 🤗
Thank you for all the great content.
Love this - excellent video. Reminds me of my friend learning to drive in an early facelift dark green Biarittz. I remember the soft seats, gearbox whine and hooded instrument cowl
Fantastic video - very well done indeed! I must admit though, I was obsessed with the FIAT Tipo at the time.......
Bang up job! Loved this documentary
What a great labour of love this video is :) Bravo sir.
This was really enjoyable and those 52 minutes flew by. Thank you for doing something so different to the usual wonderful content.
52 minutes!? You lucky man (hope that's not politically incorrect these days -.-),it was more like 90-120 for me, reading the comments and rewinding a few times :D
Loved the video. I had a top of the range 19 that had been a courtesy car in Blackburn, enjoyed it!
What an amazing video... easily one of your best! Packed full of detailed information and the visuals were fascinating. Clearly a ton of work has gone into making this video ... and the end result is a BBC4 level documentary. Well done Sir! 👏👏👏👏👏
fantastic video! loved to see this.. this is the kind of documentary/review of a car deserve and you did flawlessly.. this also reminded me the last episode from Grand Tour about the Ford Mondeo..
What a great production. Thank you!
An interesting departure from your usual content, but with as much (if not more) passion and research. Highly entertaining!
Wonderful video! I'm in Canada and French cars are virtually non existent but it's great to hear the history as I've always thought that 80s to early 90s French cars were some of the coolest of the era (19, Fuego, BX, CX, 205 GTI, 309 GTI)
U made me relate to an object to which I didn't know existed an hour ago ,very good writing and maybe everything
Great video, love the longform stuff!
Please do more like these my friend, this is AWESOME
This was epic, thank you! I had a 19 16v. Chamade back in the day. So many memories but I still think it was one of the best handling cars I ever drove
I loved the way they looked, particularly the phase one though I did rather like the phase two as well!
This was one the cars my grandfather had when I was a kid, and I remember helping him wash it on the weekends.
Great to see you took a shot outside of your comfort zone, with this video :)
This was wonderfully produced. I know you don't normally do car related content, but I'd LOVE to see more!!
Outstanding job, mate. Everything.
I have enjoyed the ride quite a lot.
This was frikin awesome! I have big love for these cars, and have driven in a lot of Renault 9's and 12's (they're still very widely used in Turkey) I will similarly to this car about VW polos mk2 - SO MANY OPTIONS IN THOSE MANUALS! (I had one from 1981 with an MPG meter and a single wing mirror to reduce drag)
Love it - thanks for the entertainment!
Thanks for this lovely trip down memory lane. I also learned to drive in a Renault 19 that my Dad and I owned together. I thought I’d take a quick gander at eBay to see if I could acquire one again. There used to be so many for sale, but now just one at four and half grand! Wish I’d kept my old one now.
this is as good as similar videos I've seen by dedicated car channels. great work.
I'm bored by cars, yet I watched all of it several times ! Excellent work ! :)
My father bought a 19 Chamade Ph1 in 2002, and i still love it. Now we have a megane 2 sedan. Thank you for your good video.
What a great video - a real departure from your normal stuff, but frankly, it was worth the effort - excellent. The mother-in-law had a dark blue, 4-door 1.9 which I did a lot of the maintenance on, and I was always impressed at how easy it was to work on. Some real thought had gone into it. It lasted a long time and did many trips back and forth across Europe.
We later bought a 1.8 16V Laguna serie 1, which turned out to be one of the best cars I've owned - superb vehicle: I was sad when it had to go.
More like this, please!
PS. I agree, your daughter has some serious drone flight skills - the overhead night-time car park shots look *great*
This was brilliant! Excellent work!
Bravo. The cinematography, music and presentation were brilliant.
I haven't watched the video yet but will watch it now, I was just confused as I didn't see which channel it was when I clicked on it and was surprised to see you and not the bloke from Bigcar :D
There's a connection between viewers who like old cars and those who like other old technology. So you are sure to get plenty of new subscribers from this, even if it feels off-topic to do.
(My channel is about old audio/video technology, but when I featured my Hillman Avenger as a New Year special, it earned a good number of subscribers.)
Very well done, slick and painstakingly produced. The effort really shows. It was interesting to someone who has never taken any notice of Renault cars before.
I love the way the Phase 1 looks! It's a very cool looking car.
Sadly we only got the Phase 2 over here in Brazil, as Renault arrived over here during the end of 96. The Clio 1 sold in Brazil was also the Ph3, that had the "Twingo mouth".
I own one of those, a 1997 Clio 1 RT. It was my first car, and I've been restoring it over the last couple of years.
That little thing is built like a tank. I live close to the beach and it has absolutely no rust. Late 90s Renault rustproofing is amazing.
Great video. Take good care of that thing.
Oh, and by the way, that aftermarket spoiler actually looks pretty cool. I dig it. :)
Amazing !!!! Many car channels do not have such great video!!
My grandfather had a Ph2 16V. I was SO in love with that car...
I still have 1 (ph2 LHD) for over 13 years now! (with a F7R 2.0 16v turbo in it) in 449 sports blue 3 door model.
Great video, loved it. Happy you found some footage of the 'Renault Insights' UK training VHS ;)
Great video!! Completely reminded me of watching Top Gear. Great cinematography, story, etc. Keep these coming.
A superb film and it needed doing, good work! As a GTS-X owner I particularly enjoyed that part!
I learned to drive in my father’s Renault 19.. a lot of nostalgia here.. thanks for sharing!
Wow enjoyed that, as usual. And this video did remind me a bit of Big Car. Thumbs up. :)
Absolutely brilliant video! Always like the 19
Great video. Pls do more. I love computers & cars too ! Currently having a Renault too ( Fluence)
I really enjoyed this and I don't even like cars! Your enthusiasm is clearly infectious 😜
Excelente video, gracias por compartirlo!! Larga vida al R19!
