I like how Bernardo always gives his comments on what it feels like to be on the receiving end of the techniques that other people demonstrate. I've been successfully breaking grips for many years, but I'll admit that the majority of the time I don't snap it off the way Jimmy Pedro shows. I do exactly what Bernardo says other jiujitsu guys do -- I grab and strip, instead of snapping (almost striking) the grip off the way Jimmy does.
If Bernardo hadn't pointed out the difference in how it feels to be on the receiving end -- ie, his fingers hurt when Pedro does it, but he's able to stiffen his grip when the typical jiu jitsu guy does it -- it wouldn't have registered to me.

    • @TheElThomaso

I competed against Jimmy in my late teens & early 20s after making the national team in the senior divisions and he killed me on the matt. But another Olympic Bronze medalist and para Olympic coach who trained athletes with Jimmy and went to the last 2 Olympics with him who was my coach on the national team is Ed Liddie. You may want to have some videos with him also as he has techniques that were not mastered by Jimmy nor nobody back then however several over the years had mastered the same techniques but for the most part they are athletes from other countries.
