@smeagi1 he raises a good point on the bio blast and flamethrower. Bio blast puts a dot, then makes it buff flamethrower ? Or like he said make flamethrower ignite it so it explodes?
Turn flamethrower into a single use GCD that is aoe but gives 20 heat sharing a cool down with air anchor? Call it Grenado shot? Make Mechaqueen do aoe suddenly how we trip over using it now.

@mrdarkstar3756 I've always thought of the idea of putting in a trait that makes it so flamethrower builds battery as it ticks. Hell go a step further and make it build battery and heat. If they buffed Auto-cross and put some battery on bio, if it would feel a lot more fluid to then bio > flamethrower > queen> hypercharge

I've been a machinist main since Heavensward. I wasnt a huge fan of the rework but i still enjoyed it and i think now we're at a point where the new direction they're taking the job is thriving. I love it so far just hope they fix the weird aoe.
Same, I do miss being able to summon the turrets for team utility and having something to spend/use my mana on though

I'm just glad I'm leveling MCH through the MSQ so that way I don't have be even MORE sad when I get downsynced and lose Double Check and Checkmate's animations.
for Wildfire what I'd do is that I'd set it up so that if you hit with an AoE skill (Scattergun, Chainsaw, Excavator, Auto Crossbow) it spreads like a secondary bomb to other targets. Put wildfire on the big target, hit it with a bunch of Auto Crossbow shots (as a bonus this gives Auto Crossbow a unique role) and then watch a bunch of secondary explosions got off after a few seconds like "BOOBOBOBOBMOBBOM" generating both damage and serotonin.
Now for Wildfire in Single Target what I'd do is kinda just go the same direction Hypercharge went. Extend the duration a few seconds, and then have it pop immediately upon reaching the 6th stack. It's a little less exciting than you'd hope, it lowers the skill ceiling a little bit, but it works consistently at any ping.
As far as "what to do about Flamethrower" I think nuking Flamethrower as it is, and making it a direct upgrade to Auto-Crossbow (one input, one damage event) would work. It's the most boring option by a huge margin sure, but it's a clean one.
I get why they don't want to give Queen an AoE: No way to generate AoE with your filler because Scattergun doesn't generate Battery -> Scattergun doesn't generate battery because they're worried about it generating too much battery in Single Target Scenarios -> If Scattergun generates too much battery in single target scenarios the rotation becomes "Spam Scattergun for 100% queen uptime".
They absolutely could fix that problem by like have Scattergun generate 3 battery or something, or only generate battery if it hits 3+ targets. But I get why they don't.

Oh, turn scattergun into a three part combo action with a reworked flamethrower as the final skill that grants 10 battery. Spread shot -> scattergun -> flamethrower
Make the turrets shots and overdrive aoe with fall off, dunno how that'd work with queen's punches. Maybe give her the old bishops shock aoe around her every time she punches? Her overdrive is flashy enough to work as an aoe without large visual changes.
It was so amazing that a drill charge and chainsaw combo made the job feel even busier. I always had a sift spot for this job, and i love it.

I think part of why tools are fun is that their CDs are all over the place. This is kind of what makes BRD fun also with Empyreal Arrow being such a low CD. I think they should make more jobs have 2 OGCDs that have a 15 second CD and an 20 second CD or something where they float around your rotation.
I've been suggesting for years that Flamethrower should ignite Bioblast, xD Would be so badass and actual synergy between skills

I've been a MCH main since StB and honestly it feels PHENOMENAL right now, with my main complaints being what you listed. Genuinely have no idea why they are keeping Auto Crossbow from refreshing skills as it would immediately allow MCH to work for both AoE and ST. Also Flamethrower still exists, I do not know WHY it still exists or why they think it's a good skill especially with it being the Stormblood capskill. Delete it or change it at this point please yoshi-p, I will keep saying that if you are going to change Flamethrower just turn it into a more potent Bio on a longer cooldown. This way at least MCh can apply a DoT during things like trials since you dont really use bio in single fights.
Other than that with the EX running I've done in DT MCH feels great and it feels amazing barely having to do the 123 and having hypercharge up so often, it really feels like you are just pumping out a lot of fast heavy hitting attacks. Really my only issue with MCH that wouldn't be a quick fix is the early levels, and this has always been my feelings. Early level MCH just feels like a slog and you don't have any real "wow" moves and even the 123 feels like you are just auto attacking. Kind of wish there could be some way to fix early level MCH because getting low level stuff in roulette really drags down the class down.
I've always hated the handful of abilities that just seem to be there and don't really fit in anywhere. Give them some function to synergize with the rest of the kit or just drop them entirely. Tons of ways Flamethrower could fit in for procing other things MCH does but instead it's just sitting there not being useful since it has not meter generation.
Honestly started playing and actually learning mch last tier and ive been loving the heck out of it. The changes in dt at least for single target ive also very much enjoyed just sucks that it does less damage than dancer at this point in time but probably wont stop me from giving it a go
I like your idea to make flamethrower ignite bio blaster along with auto crossbow reducing the cd of the OGCDS. I think having both would be a cool change, though it may take some time to know what to prioritize pressing first given all the AOE you received the past 2 expansions.
Autocrossbow change would make the most sense, but I think bioblaster and flamethrower as DoTs on such a burst class makes no sense other than “these are tools that MCHs use”.
I've been mentioning the Bioblaster into Flamethrower interaction in Happy's comment section for ages. maybe it's casually seeped into his mind. :3
Just make flamethrower a mobile skill (because DUH. It's a mobile class!!) and that would be hella fun. Imagine barreling through mobs with an active flamethrower! The cancellation for change in direction is dumb.

I'll be raiding on Dawntrail as a machinist :D. Back in Endwalker I learned to raid with Bard, and gave MCH a try when it got buffed. It was fun, but the changes it got in Dawntrail has made it even more enjoyable to play as
I will be leveling Machinist as my Ranged dps until the new big instance thing to level all jobs. I touched. I do like the changes, especially the heat blast rotation changes in looks, but visuals are nice definitely a single target blaster job.
I echo your sentiment about single target fun, it feels like a complete version of the EW MCH. AoE skills and Wildfire feel very underwhelming to use compared to other jobs. I would be fine if wildfire stayed single target, but had a cooler animation that was more noticeable (though they made mug aoe, so who knows maybe they would change it to multi target). Potency definitely is a tad lower than where it was in EW, but this is a lot easier to fix than gameplay.
I'm becoming a MCH main for this raid tier, and I've been loving the new tools changes. Excavator, Full Metal Field, and second Drill make the rotation a lot more fun than it was for me in Endwalker
I absolutely agree on the autocrossbow should proc the checks' cooldown reduction but aside from that it's definitely a standout job this expansion for me
I've had the thought of a few ways to make Flamethrower more useful or at least able to trigger stuff :
*Idea #1 : Bio-accelerant*
Using Bioblaster inflicts "Bio-accelerant" which increases the potency of Flamethrower by X for the duration of Bioblaster on affected targets. Simple, it just makes sense that your bioblaster would coat stuff so adding a fire accelerant to it seems like the logical way to do it.
*Idea #2 : Wild Napalm*
Whenever Wildfire triggers to deal damage, it leaves a patch of tar on the ground beneath the target's location. Enemies standing in the patch take the "Tarred" status which inflicts Heavy+20%. If an enemy within the AoE is hit with either "Heat Blast", "Blazing Shot" or "Flamethrower", the patch lights up dealing damage over time to all who stands in it (kind of like the NIN's Doton)
*Idea #3 : Flame Blast*
"Flamethrower" is removed and replaced with "Flame Blast". If "Hypercharge" is triggered after using "Barrel Stabilizer", "Auto-crossbow" changes to "Flame Blast". "Flame Blast" deals the same damage as Auto-crossbow but inflicts a stack of "On Fire!" status which deals a X damage DoT per stack for 15 and reduces the damage the target(s) deal(s) by 1%.
Am I missing something? You always got a bot in your opener in Endwalker, it just wasn't a 100 battery it was 50 unless thats what you meant.
My idea of how to fix queen is to not actually change what it does but just add a reflect ability to it. Like any time its in range of one of your aoes it just triggers a second aoe on top of it. Simple, fun way to get it to help you with large trash packs without having to change its single target function.

@@hope1ess221 Yeah I was mostly being sarcastic, someone did some pure number crunching over in Japan, and based on just pure numbers, not taking content or anything else into account, just pure numbers, in solo damage, 2 minute reopeners, and grouped 2 minute reopeners, and all 3 of bard MCH and Dancer are the bottom 3 of the damage numbers, with MCH being above bard and dancer just in the solo damage category, on openers and 2 minutes bard and dancer are higher than it. So for all intents and purposes, MCH has the lowest numbers of any job.

MCH has been my go to secondary job since Shadowbringers and DT’s version just doubles down on that. I do find it funny that instead of fixing the aoe situation they just made the single target aoe splash better so you really get to enjoy the new animations.
I highly agree with the aoe part. With Auto-Crossbow not proccing charges of your heat blast or ricochet/whatever their new names are now. And why is Flamethrower still a thing?? I am surprised it made it into Dawntrail. That is really my biggest complaint of the job. The Queen automaton also always felt tacked onto the job as well, but that's not as bad for me as the awkward aoe rotation has always felt on Machinist.
What's wild about the AoE thing is SAM goes in the complete opposite direction - your combos are faster in AoE and you burn through those Meditation stacks so much quicker X-D
Excavator has thrown a wrench in the battery/Automaton Queen usage.
We now use at 60 (opener) -> 90 -> 100 (2m) -> 50 -> 60 (to avoid cap) -> 100 (4min) -> 50 -> 70 -> 100 (6min) -> etc.

I personally don't like things like this and apex arrow on Bard. Having to use a gauge at specific levels a minute in advance to prep it for your burst window feels so weird and unintuitive to me. Maybe they could add a free 100 gauge queen usage buff to barrel stabilizer and a free 100 gauge apex arrow usage buff to raging strikes or something?
Can someone tell me if it’s better to use the Automaton Queen at 50 or 100 battery gauge? I was under the impression that it didn’t matter & now the duration is fixed but the damage is lower depending on the gauge. So you could either use it twice at 50 or close to that, or use it once at 100 gauge.
You want a 100 gauge queen to line up with your burst window, so you have to do queens at specific gauge timings leading up to your burst window in order to achieve that without overcapping. It's kind of fucky tbh.
What i like them to do to machinist is remake it give it two handguns and have it about powering up to become the robot not just summon one for a sec or two. I jsut want that so they can add a new ranged physical dps that use a rife

I think Wildfire needs to do AoE damage and have a much bigger flashier graphic animation. Otherwise I love its current mechanic perfectly.
Personally, I think we need a throwable grenade and flamethrower needs to be one huge cone blast that leaves a burning field on the ground that makes enemies take 5% more damage from chemical based attacks like Bio Blaster.
Out of curiosity, where does machinist aoe fall in terms of damage? I agree the mechanics need to be changed heavily cause they are definitely clunky, but curious where it falls compared to other jobs right now
On paper I wasn't expecting much at all from Machinist so focused Bard. Then i got around to Machinist and it felt so much better than I thought it would. I just wish its AoE was better designed and the numbers were slightly higher

I love MCH so much, I really hope they iron out the aoe weirdness over the course of our 7.x updates and we're not stuck waiting on 8.0 for improvements. I'm already disappointed we'll have to wait until 8.0 for a potential movement ability.

As a mch main since Heavensward (and pre-rebuild of the class), I'm agreeing that the AOE just feels bad overall and like the kit doesn't mix with its single target rotation very well. I feel bad doing the AOEs and I feel lacking compared to other classes and their AOE. I have a feeling that having a 1-2 or 1-2-3 combo for the AOE might help a bit, maybe spread shot into scatter gun, then maybe the updated skillset is auto-crossbow into bioblaster into noiseblaster (pulling from ff6 lore a bit more).
I love flamethrower, especially against packs, but it almost needs a bit of love - maybe 5 heat and/or battery every time you do a tick of damage to encourage you to use the skill? Just something to tie the job into the single target attacks a bit more!
Wildfire...it's nice but for the effort to maximize the damage I could have a kinder rotation to my fingers in the burst window. I just feels like bonus damage just for hitting a button and that's about it.
MCH kit always felt incomplete in SHB/EW to and now it finally plays like a fully finished job. Love no 1-2-3 in the opener, new animations. AOE kit is still a bit weird is true.

Imo this is the best the job has felt since it's rework in shb, there's a LOT less time where you're just hitting your 123 combo and nothing else. Adding another drill charge and a follow up to chainsaw did wonders for the feeling of tools, you always feel like you're using all of these tool skills and it's great. Constant Queen summons is great too, if they made it do aoe damage I'd be perfectly happy with the job in dungeons. It could use some more tweaks but not super urgently imo
my only complaint is that I don't like full metal field being on barrel stabilizer, it just feels weird to me
Bioblaster debuff being ignited by Flamethrower sounds like some Destiny gameplay. I love it. Someone patch this in
As a Machinist player my only complain outside of the obvious AOE stuff has to be that Double Check and Checkmate are a bit too flashy and end up being distracting as hell during hypercharge windows

It’s still so insane to me that Auto Crossbow doesn’t do anything for refreshing your Ricochets.
I've said it once, I'll say it again; MCH is being balanced and adjusted each expansion by people who don't actually use the job. I don't know what capacity the combat team enjoys the game or what jobs they play, but it sure feels like they've never touched the job a day in their lives.
The effects are cool but blinding and have taken some getting used to. I'm loving the beefier sound effects.
loved it during stormblood now i get depressed when i think about playing it now. thankfully viper is more enjoyable for me right now

If it interacted with Bio Blaster, then that would definitely be dope. Like a dot followed by fire that ignites everything for a big burst and bigger dot. Also Wildfire being an aooe explosion after some level would be dope AND give Queen some AOE attacks, just small or whatever idc

The job really need a buff. When I've seen new extreme trials statistic, well, it looks sad. Machinist has no utility at all, just his own raw damage and this is top 3 but from the bottom, I'm not sure if SE will add a chance to deal critical damage for wildfire but still, that just might won't crit at least once.
And like in this tier I plan to play mch cuz I really love the aesthetics of the job and how clean it to play, but on week 1 it will be a suffer because of lowest max rDPS among DPS jobs.

I live in Quebec with a ping of 80-90ms to Aether and Machinist is unplayable on a decent/high level without Alexander or Noclippy. Also, Double check and Checkmate are too flashy with the lights and smoke, sometime I don't see what the boss is doing at all. It's really stupid problem. I don't want to lower my abilities' visuals just because of these 2 skills but I'm tempted to. Also skill wise, it's very clear that nobody on their team is MCH main. They seem to have no clue how to balance MCH correctly. The AOE ability not recharging Double check and Checkmate is simply pure ignorance on how the job functions. Also why tf is Wildfire not auto DH/Crit is incomprehensible..
It's easy enough I rarely get out damaged in a PuG. People really undervalue easy. Can a black mage out-damage me? Sure, but almost none do. MCH has to be the easiest job to be good at it. No positionals and no cast times when the games only mechanic is movement is nice. Real nice.
Kinda frustrates me that now dismantle is the only targeted mit that is just 10 seconds long.
Maybe it's just me , but I don't care about the AOE rotation too much since I only really play it in raid(savage / ultimate ) (and just afk brain leveling) !
Just admit it happy at heart you will always be a gunmage. That being said mch will always be my main even if its not meta, so i am very bias.

Just got MCH to 100 yesterday and I agree that the AoE feels like ass. Flamethrower has no feedback so it feels like you're doing nothing when using it and Bioblaster is just meh? They definitely should let auto crossbow reset your other abilities. It would make it feel wayyy better to play.
Single target is another story and it feels great. Its so nice just blasting big skill after big skill in the opener and getting Queen without a combo. A few potency buffs would be much appreciated.
Lets see if Square continues the trend from EW and gives Drill 20 potency lol
Waiting eagerly for the Dancer video. They fixed basically every issue it had in EW, and feels great to play. Sticking with it as my main for DT.
legit do not see why flamethrower can't be a turret or a bot that follows you around.....I know a lot of people like the animation.....maybe have it so when can summon a pure aoe version of the queen? One that does non-stop flamethrower while it's out while tossing some grenades/aoe's around?
I personally dont mind Machinist's AoE rotation, I find it satisfying while I do still see whwre youre coming from. I personally wish Bioblaster's cooldown was not shared with Drill as this would give Machinists a DoT to keep up on bosses/single targets.
What do you mean with Ping related issues on Hypercharge?
People with unstable or high ping could not reliably play MCH back in the day, because Hypercharge used to be entirely timed. You could lose out on a gcd in Hypercharge because you couldn’t use ogcds in between Heat Blasts without clipping. And you HAD to use your ogcds or else you’d lose out on OGCD casts.
It was godawful. Damned if you do OGCD, damned if you don’t OGCD.

MCH is such a weird Job, they do so much cool stuff, but then theyre still like "No, Flamethrower will stay, Queen will not do AOE, Air Anchor will not be AOE, Auto-Crossbow will reduce OGCD cooldowns"

the only scenario i can think of where u would ever hit flamethrower intentionally is super min max like using right when a boss is about to retargetable like in p6 dsr u start with flamethrower and get like just literally 1 tick of dmg

I agree, i missed the positionals and i love how "interactive" viper is. Its like the monk i missed mixed with ninja. With a well missed sense of "expression"
Once you play it enough viper is so simple, the positionals actually keep me engaged I hate that it's already getting adjusted

I still think the "adjustment" will be positional removed from the dreadwinder combo. I just wish they'd give us RA earlier and just give a trait that ups it's potency at higher levels.

At least based on FFLogs for the two EX Trials currently Machinist seems to be about even with Bard on average and is outperforming Dancer. The like 95th-99th percentiles are lower but like you say, Machinist is naturally low variance on these damage charts with several auto CritDH, a high damage DoT, no internal buffs to keep aligned, and no rDPS component. Not sure you need to be as concerned about the job's damage as you are - it's certainly looking a lot better than it did for most of Endwalker

Machinist is one of those classes that i despise despite its high potential.
The higher level you get the more you go from a gunslinger with machines which is extremely cool, to just this weird random bullshit go spammer with no immersive quality whatsoever.
Pisses me off because it has such a nice style to it as a gunslinger. Hopefully one day we'll get an actual Bow class and an actual Gun class.

Wildfire is so lame. It's the #1 reason why I tend to prefer bard or dance despite HATING the aesthetic of those jobs

i think trash in the game as a whole kinda suck they should cast skills to dodge way more frequently and should have more interesting mechanics yea its not a boss and shouldnt be but its kinda lackluster atm
optimal battery gauge use is horrible right now cause we went from generating 90/100 battery gauge to 110/120
It's better now. If done correctly, you should have 100 gauge per minute.
@Villainnnn if you drop queen everytime you hit 100 you will slowly drift queen outside of 2 minutes
@@frozentranscended if we’re speaking strictly from a 2.5 gcd you should not be drifting queens. If you’re having trouble with drifting you could do an early queen roughly 70-80 gadge to compensate.

But goddamn everything about the animations just completely takes me out of it.

Why does MCH even have a gun at this point.
The Gun part wasn't consistent in Heavensward already but we just completely went out the window by now.
with the power of mods u can make the job feel like a real mch again
man, they just can't get MCH right no matter what and I don't understand why they kept a ping-dependant mechanic in a game played by millions across the world
