- Train Drivers on Tour - Germany 2023 Day 3 of 3!
Join me Richard, a Real Life train driver for a 3 day train spotting and railway adventure in Germany! Day 3 of 3 and we are train spotting in the Dusseldorf and Cologne areas of Germany. See how our day of railway fun unravels, as we look for freight trains sometimes unsuccessfully!
Visiting Dusseldorf Flughafen (Airport) The TGV and ICE Trains come past at speed and we ride another suspension monorail, the Dusseldorf Sky Train.

The Thalys is very fine.

really enjoyed seeing some TSW stock IRL great vid
3:05 As a swiss living in Geneva and seeing those train everyday those are not slam door coaches
A fantastic day out!
I have to say, German railways in real life seem far more interesting than TSW leads you to believe! haha. Probably the same for the UK too. A few observations: 1) Can you call a the Thalys a TGV? Controversial! 2) Is that a UK-style banner repeater I see there at 4:54? 3) They seem to have a lot more shunter locos in Germany than we have in the UK. Why is that I wonder?. If you go back to Germany again, you should go south of Cologne. The trip down the Rhein is stunning, and there's railways along both river banks, along with branch lines off into the hills, including steam lines too. And lots of castles!
Looks good, you shoudl do a day in the life o a train driver
Boots up on the cab desk !
If you do another trip I'd be interested in joining you
I'm in the U.S. but got to spend some time in the Munich area a few years ago and was able to do some railfanning. The variety of trains is really interesting. I live in New Jersey, and what was cool was seeing the German-made ALP locomotives over there, since NJ Transit has been the only railroads in the U.S. to use them and only one of two in North America, the other being Exo in Montreal, Canada. My wife and I are going to Amsterdam next year and have built in some short train trips. Have you been to the U.S.?
Only Florida when I was much younger. I’m going to NY next year with my wife, hopefully we can do a little bit of train spotting.
Enjoy your trip to Amsterdam!
