    • @chb2551

Exactly. Clearly it says more about these 2 thin women being offended by the jokes, that aren't really aimed at those who are fat, than it does about the song itself. The song is clearly about poking fun at Michael Jackson's video (hence why it so closely matches it, frame by frame) and at society. You can see an example of that by them trying to pressure him to eat the food and shaming him when he says he doesn't want it.
If we look around, you can't help but see unhealthy foods, that can taste amazing, almost being pushed on us through advertisements, displays, etc. To me, it's a social commentary.
It makes me wonder what it is about them, 2 thin women, who can't take a fat-joke-song as a joke, when fat people like us (whether slightly overweight or severely obese) can find it hilarious.
It sounds to me like it's not the song that's the problem. It's the people listening to it who can be the biggest problem. If they don't like it, they don't have to listen to it. As for me, a fat guy, I'm going to continue to laugh every time I see the video.

It just seems like all you could focus on is how "inappropriate" it would be "today" because of how overly sensitive everyone has become.
I guess it is telling about who is more comfortable with accepting themselves, and a joke, and those who can't. Even though you're not fat (which includes from slightly overweight to severely obese) you're calling it inappropriate and saying it couldn't be made today. According to the 1st Amendment of the U.S., where the song was made, songs like it can be made easily, and legally. After seeing Eat It, and when he found out that Weird Al was making Fat, Michael Jackson aloowed Al to film the video fror Fat at the same location as Bad. They were just about to tear it down and Al stopped them just in time to be able to make the video and then tear it down after the video was done.
Weird Al also said that he never makes a parody out of someones requests, but he make one exception. After Madoon did Like A Virgin she said to her assistent that she wondered when Weird Al would make a parody Like A Surgeon of it. Madonnas assisten knew Weird Als assistent so the word came to him about it. Thats why and how Like A surgeon came to be.

I am weird person that never was big on music growing up. But I was very much a fan of comedy scene and Weird Al is a legend in both areas. Unlike most here won't say you have to like video but very much missed creativity of doing this before anyone else did and on the scale of it is extremely impressive. Which is why no one has come close to filling Weird Al shoes in last few decades because they can't do what he did. And when it comes to comedy majority will tell you the golden era is in the past which is why we have dozens of articles all time of people complaining about comedians and comedians complaining about press. The top 10 net worth of comedians with 1 exception all come from comedians who debut more than a decade ago and just stayed relevant.

It's funny how 2 thin women think that us fat people should be offended by this song. That tells me more about their attitude towards fat people than it does anything else. It seems like they think that we *should* be ashamed of being fat, even when we're not. Even to the point that they mentioned "health coaches" are making things "better."
At least Jennifer and Chloe seemed to have gotten the joke of the song and enjoyed it. They were laughing up to the end.

To be fair to Roma, she made a very astute observation at 6:40 when she noted how much hard work Weird Al must put into his parodies in order to mimic the artists so well. But sadly these two ladies really didn't "get" this parody like Jennifer and Chloe did, who also reviewed this and loved it and were laughing their heads off in places!
To think that humour is "more complex" today and things have "moved on" is rather naive and narrow-minded. These two probably need to be exposed to more comedy and musical parodies from the past to broaden their knowledge and appreciation of what came before them. Roma at least admitted she didn't know Weird Al, which is fair enough - we all come from different backgrounds - but Briana claimed to know his stuff already, yet didn't seem to get it or to be that impressed, and seemed to miss the whole point by talking about "health coaches" and people "getting better", not wanting to call others fat. As others have said, if anything, most societies are getting worse on regarding obesity and poor diets, but that's not the point of this parody.

Im sorry, but what about this video is at all not acceptable, other than maybe the guys at the very beginning who are SUPPOSED to be the "bad guys"? Al never called anyone fat but himself. He never did any "fat shaming". He owned who he was. Listen again with open ears. Coming from a guy who is fat AND proud of who I am, this song is an anthem. In Als final words of the song, "Don't call me pudgy, portly or stout. Im fat!"

    • @chb2551
