    In recent years, more and more voters are valuing players with HOF peaks but don't have the typical counting stats. Andruw Jones is on the doorstep of election, Utley did very solid his first year on the ballot, and going way back Koufax was an easier hall of famer. And more writers are citing their peaks as to why they're voting for them. And as far as peaks go, deGrom has one of the best. His career era is 2nd amongst modern SP. ERA+ is 5th all time (2nd among modern SP), WHIP is 2nd all time, FIP is 2nd among modern SP, Hits per 9 is 6th all time, K/9 is 3rd all time, and SO/W ratio is 1st all time. He'll never have the traditional counting stats, but he has put up some of the greatest rate stats of all time. I think by the time he lands on the ballot in the next 5-10 years even more voters will be valuing players with high peaks regardless of counting stats. Definitely not a slam dunk, but a much stronger case than people realize.

    • @BBUYTTV
      @BBUYTTV  Před 5 měsíci

      I like how you lay the case out here. When I had the idea, I looked at the way pitching has changed and also saw parallels with Koufax’s career. The bottom line is that traditional pitching stats wins, strikeouts etc will not reach similar heights as the way pitchers are used has changed so much. Thank you for your comment!

    Im gonna call him a longshot, no matter how good hes been. Hes a starting pitcher with less than 100 career wins. I get wins arent everything but he never even averages 6 innings a start and without going very far into a game, hes not gonna win many games and not be very valuable

    • @BBUYTTV
      @BBUYTTV  Před 5 měsíci

      It’s a good point but I think more of a reflection of how baseball has changed. Starters are used much differently now. He probably needs to put together 4-5 more great seasons or make a move to the bullpen like John Smoltz did (another commenter suggested this). Thank you for your input!

  • @zach7193
    @zach7193 Před 5 měsíci +1

    He was compared to Seaver. He's an ace of a pitcher. Pitchers who have arm surgery tend to win more games after treatment. They're competitive in their 30s than when they started. Studies show that. He might have a chance at the Hall. If surgery is a success. Feel like it's the same injury as Strasburg.

    • @BBUYTTV

      @BBUYTTV  Před 5 měsíci +1

      To a certain extent I agree. However, pitching has changed a lot in the last 20 years and they are used a lot differently. Starters now are not used anywhere near as much as they used to be. It seems like they may need to be evaluated on a new standard. Thank you for the comment.
