Buy awesome guppies and plecos here! www.michaelsfishroom.com
Thank you sooooo much dude!
I'm listening but distracted by the beautiful flowerhorn behind you. What a gorgeous fish. Taco is handsome indeedđ
Taco is the man!
I read your post after I had posted. I was watching them too.
Iâm in love with the chemistry between you and your fish đ The way they react too your hand gestures is too funny
LOL
I moved my guppies cross country in Mason jars with some of their tank gravel for beneficial bacteria and a sprig of hornwort in each jar. We got delayed and had to stay with family for nearly 3 months and my guppies lived in those jars with occasional water changes with no issues. I'll be doing similar with our next move, which might be cross country again. I'll likely do a piece of prepared lava rock for the beneficial bacteria instead of gravel.
The one difference will be this time I'll have a fancy goldfish and a dojo/weather Loach to transport. I might do buckets for those or bulk sized pretzel jars that are about 5 gallons. The only one I really worry about is the goldfish because he's messy. He'll just need frequent water changes and maybe purijen in with him, for the ammonia.
Yes I would feed sparingly and have Fritz complete on hand to neutralize any spikes.
@@MichaelsFishRoom Absolutely! đ
Thank you so much for this video!! Just moved guppies, babies and adults, large algae eater, and my favorites... 6 catfish. 18 hours from start to finish. If I didn't see this video, I would have way over thought
Glad to help and happy it went smoothly.
Fish are the easy part. The hard part is tearing down planted tanks to move.
Sounds like it.
Thank you Michael for your advice.
My pleasure!
Michael is the exact person I needed for this topic.
Thanks
Thank you. You have no idea how much this helped me.
Glad it helped!
All good points Michael great video. I believe most of the time folks try to do too much and this affects the fish adversely rather than just using some common sense.
Well said
Thanks Michael! Perfect timing as Iâm moving from NJ to AZ in 2 months!
Best of luck!
I will try your method
So sensible
Good Luck
Thank you so much for this video! I was wayyyy over thinking đ
Glad it was helpful!
Awesome video, thanks very much. I totally forgot the existence of buckets before I watched the video, lmao.
LOL, now you know and knowing is half the battle.
â@@MichaelsFishRoomGI JOE!
Thank you for this video, I was losing my mind! You, sir, are a gift to fish keepers and humanity in general đ
Lol, thanks!
Iâm moving more fish tomorrow lol. Thanks for the video. I uploaded my first fish video last month. Iâm having fun sharing my tanks with CZcams đ
Good luck!
You are so right about 2 day shipping. I have gotten merchandise on standard shipping faster than epidited shipping
Yup
Good information. I was watching the flowerhorns behind you. I think you were being upstaged. đ
Always!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Driving from Oklahoma to New York with my betta next month. Thanks so much for this video! I was def over thinking this. đ I'll come back and leave an update. Wish me luck!
You got this! Let me know how it goes!
Appreciate you mike!
Thanks!
Or rent an entire different house just for the fish so you can move house without worrying about the fish... No? Just me? I'll get my coat.
LOL
Always entertained!
Great!
If you want you could add one of those ammonia absorbing sponges in the bucket if youâre worried.
No need.
Very wise advice đ
Glad you think so!
Good video and I agree that it is that simple. I've moved 1.5 hours away twice in the last few years and it was simple, no casualties or sick fish either time. Temperature is the largest concern in my opinion. In most cases it shouldn't be an issue but if it is a cold season then just keep the heat turned up in the car. Once arriving put the buckets in a room where heat can be turned on or have a small heater meant for a 5-10g tank that you can add to the bucket.
Remember, just because it is cold does not mean the water temp gets cold right away.
Lol, I just did that with my recent move. I had my shrimp in a bucket for 2 days with the plants.
No shrimp died. I just had a spare 10g heater in there with them. When my place was ready, slapped on that lid and moved.
Easy right?

Hey Mike, thanks for the tips. I am moving my entire fish room of over 30 tanks 30 minutes away. They'll be going into a dedicated fish room, so I'm excited for that. Thank God I've got a month and a half to do it, and I think I'm going to recruit some young folks to help me catch and tote. The only downside is it's in the middle of the start of spring shipping season! Please say a little prayer for me and my fish. Thanks dude!
Good luck!
Great video Iâm just about to move house again soon
Good luck!

Hi Michael, thank you for the info I was overthinking my move. The 50 fish tanks and all the fish it'll be a fun one but, how many fish would you put into a bucket for a 6 hour drive, I'm referring to most of them an average of inch and a half mostly African cichlids. I have quite a few but I'm going to thin the herd before I do the move. Thanks, you always have great content and bloopers
Depends on if they fight. If not, 10-15.
This puts me at ease my only concern is my buckets will have to be in the bed of a truck would it be a good idea to have small 5 gallon heaters in moving from California to Alaska by ferry and driving
Whatâs the ambient temp going to be?
Last year I moved to Virginia from Michigan. I used a bucket but dropped the CO-Op sponge filter in it with the USB pump. I probably didnât need it, but I had it so I thought why not. It is a pain, though.
How long was that drive?
@@MichaelsFishRoom about 9-10 hours with stops. It was cold out too. I just wore shorts and took off my coat and kept the heat around 72 so I didnât sweat to death. Lol.
Thanks for the vid! Will be moving 6hrs away nxt month and I was worried about my fish, but now I know it's simple. Great vid!
Good luck!
thank you so much i was worrying about transporting my fish from michigan to texas and this video really helped but also i am transporting my turtle too so can i just put her in a bucket as well?
I've never kept a turtle but I would assume so.
Hiya
Yo yo yo!
You should do a thumbnail of you holding a paper snowflake eye brow arched with an aim and flame đ„, titled dealing with questions!
I like it!
@@MichaelsFishRoom Do it Do it Do it!
Michael, how come you donât breed platys as well? You could put them in the same tank as the guppies.
No money in them.
All this and Bloopers?
Full service like NJ gas pumps!
Your video is really easy to understand, and it's a great video, but I do have some questions.
I don't have filter media, I just have a sponge filter. In a website, I've heard that you're supposed to get rid of water from sponge filters and gravel to keep the bacteria alive...?
So... am I supposed to get rid of the water or keep them in water?
A sponge filter is filter media. Just put it in the bucket with the fish.
@@MichaelsFishRoom Ah thank you.
My clown loaches have moved 4 times (back in their younger days - they are 14 now). They require a limo with a sauna inside (they love to "frolic" in the jets) and several mermaids and mermen. The caviar bill alone is ridiculous. I'm glad they haven't discovered botanicals yet...
Well, you are in CaliforniaâŠ..
Should really small guppies be separated from the adults during 12 hour transport? potential of maybe being eaten
If they fit into a larger guppies mouth, they will eventually end up there.
Moving during the summer to TexasâŠcichlids but do I need to be concerned with it getting too hot in U-Haul?
Yup
I'm moving about 30 minutes away and really tight on money, I have two ten gallon tanks and two 5 gallon tanks. I was wondering if my fish would be ok in bags for the drive and the time it's gonna take me to set all the tanks back up?
Sure why not. Or just use a clean bucket.
Iâm literally moving down the block my tank is a 45 gallon marine land. Iâm hoping to move the tank with my live plants and fish and gravel in it. Do you think the tank will be fine with 15 gallons in it? Or will that compromise it?
Nope, I would empty the water at the very least. Plus, a 15 gallon is about 100 lbs.
Hi, I am moving 2.4 miles away. It will take less than 10 minutes. How would you suggest 3.5 gallon tank with plants, a crab, and snails? Then I have a 10 gallon with my betta, a ton of snails!! (Babies), and shrimp⊠some baby shrimp. Thank you!
Out contents in bucket, move, but back in tank. Donât over think it.
I have a battery powered air pump and stone for power outages so when I move fish I use it but I didnât buy it to move fish to me itâs just a way to help keep the fish less stressed does it actually do that who knows peace of mind I guess
I guess.
Why wouldnât I want to use the the water from the current tank to fill up the buckets that Iâm using to transport the fish?
Because you want clean water.

Hey Michael I set up a 75 I bought from a guy and put the filter media in a bucket with water. Set the tank up tested the water and it was showing .25 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate. Is it possible Iâm just having to do a mini cycle? Or does it sound like the beneficial bacteria died and Iâm at square one?
With out anymore info, it is just a mini cycle. Follow my "fish in cycle" video.
One video I cannot find because it's very specific... What if I need to move 2 tanks, but also need to swap the fish from each tank to the other? What steps would you take?
đ€Šđ»ââïž
@@MichaelsFishRoom great answer.
Do I have to take out all the water, plants and gravel? Iâm moving 3 miles down the road. 29 gallon, 20 long and a 10 gallon - all planted.
i'm gonna say that depends on weight and temp. the glass will break if it experiances a drastic temp change and water won't slow that down. you might be able to get away with leaving a shallow substraight but i still wouldn't recommend it. again weight could cause bottom to break or crack.
I would never move a tank with water or any weight in it, they are not designed for that.
@@grenwood6551 Iâm guess Iâm just looking for an easier way to get this done. But everyone says to empty it out. Thank you!
@@MichaelsFishRoom thanks Michael! I dare not tempt fate.
I'm moving 1,300 miles away. How many fish per bucket! Or should I individually bag them? I have large South American cichlid tank and I have an African cichlid tank. Im seriously stressed. I've had them all for years!
It would help to know how long it will take.
I have 8 goldfish in my 50 gallon aquarium and everytime i do a 50 % water change every 2 weeks i add 5 spoon of aquarium salt, will this kill the beneficial bacteria in my sump? đ€
Salt does not kill BB. Why are you adding salt?
I am absolutely stunned that you left out the key element to moving fish. Everybody knows that you only use blue buckets....sheesh....
White from tractor supply is the new blue! Lol
A little common sense and thought is great, but overthinking things just gets too complicated and in most cases is just counterproductive.
