    Are you wearing a filtered mask for stainless...I hear a lot about some toxic off gassing.

      Hexacromium will go through any respirator. Need a ventilation hood to suck that out of the room.

    Not really helpful. Most your videos use BIG cups and so it's really easy to have beautiful welds. I'm using small cups because I don't want to use too much gas. Also everything is great until I introduce filler rods, then all hell breaks loose. Steel gets overheated by the time the puddle is enough to accept filler rods. If I move faster I get no penetration, and if I get enough penetration, I'm overheating the metal. There's no middle ground either.

      Sometimes this could be too large of a rod so maybe try a smaller filler rod size and see how it works. Another possibility is to up the amps by 5 and then also increase your travel speed. Just suggestions. 😊

      Get some 1/16 filler rod. I also have .040 rod for thin stuff

      Good welds are expensive, turn up the gas

      @@aidanoconnor6654it's not about cup size, it's all about heat input. You can fill the whole freaking room with pure argon, and you would weld wearing oxygen tanks with the waste gas vented outside, if your heat input is too much you'll still cook the weld.
      Also electropolishing attachment for your Tig welder is a lot cheaper than gas, and we are not welding titanium so as long as you are porosity free you're fine.

      @aidanoconnor6654 Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@taiwanluthiers sure but electropolishing will remove a lot of the shiny pop your runs will have.
      I stand by what I said regarding your gas flow rate. Argon isn't so expensive so it's a weird thing to try to save on.
      You can get away with having a smaller diameter cup, but your torch angle needs to be PERFECT!! Difficult when you're working in a confined space like I find myself doing often.
      Just speaking from experience.
