  • Well with a bunch of elbow grease, some new parts, a few scavenged part off the trusty rusted heap of a parts car and the odd part here and there that were sitting around the shop, we were able to get this hibernating Stang alive once again after sitting for 44 years! Nothing like hearing the heart beat of the trusty 289 straight out of Tri-Y Headers! Stay tuned for more episodes/ updates in the near future! Feel free to leave a like and subscribe to my channel if you liked what you saw!

    I can understand many of the comments about pulling, but leaving this intact, doing essentially a poor-mans rebuild was 100x more interesting. Sure, you could send it out to a machine shop, bore, stroke you name it, but you guys did an awesome job going through essentially getting it running as if it was still 40 years ago recently rolled into the barn. Nice job. I like the fact that you didn’t paint parts either.

      @Theoldcarchannel.  Před 5 lety +12

      Finally! Someone who understands the point of the revival/videos! Thank you Edward! It's exactly that, simply just cleaning things up and making it a runner once again...and, for meager means cost wise. Will it survive? Who knows until I start driving it, but I would much rather try to get it going than to send it out to a machine shop and end up with a healthy bill to pay. If the engine doesn't survive, I have many others ready to go in. A simple carbed 5.0 L roller engine and a 5spd easy weekend swap!
      Haha yeah no point in painting parts when the rest of the engine (and car) are ratty!
      Cheers,
      Mike

    Man this brought back memories. I bought my first car back in 1981 and it was a 1964 1/2 Mustang with a 260/289. It what I learned on. I missed the simplicity and the engine bay space. Fuel ,spark ,air that's all they needed. A tip I learned for road repair was carry a spare points and condenser and a straight blade screwdriver and a pack of matches. For the timing space use one paper match (.017") and two paper matches for the plugs (.035). A lesson taught to me by an old-timer back then.

    Back in the day some cars could go through as many as 2 different sets of points in a year. For a tune up you would replace the plugs, cap, rotor, points and condenser. Just when I mastered points and adjusting carbs and understood choke systems they became obsolete. Nice double flair on the fuel line.

I have been wrenching on old cars since I was about 12 or 13, mostly classic V8s but also some classic straight 6s from the late '60s and '70s. I used to - at a minimum - put in a new battery, coil, points, condenser, wires, plugs, coolant and oil, and filters before even thinking about turning the key. BUT these were just old and poorly maintained, never sitting for many years. AND I WAS BROKE! ;-) You do you, I guess. Nice to see this old beast run again.

(It hasn't run in a while because of the usual priorities...kids and money and time ).. Man the engine sounds sweet, can’t beat an ole 289/302! Now you know she runs good you can dress up the engine a bit, make it look pretty

    Thank you very much for your video. It is very nice to see how to fix something like that. You have done a great job here! Please put a little of new paint in the engine.... that will change the cool view of it! All the best!

    Starting fluid will be more effective when you open both the choke and venturi butterfly valves so the spray will get into the plenum better.

    When I flair tubing for a hose, I just do the first step. It prevents hose damage from stretching over the larger double flair.

      Yeah, it was a pretty snug fit. Might cut the line and do a small single flare later on down the road

    Old Ford's never die unless their mistreated in a big way. Good maintenance and they will run forever, even if you let them sit for years on end. The body on the other hand... they will rust, but of course so will any manufacturer's steel frames and bodies.
    My 96 E150 sat for 5 1/2 years, brake lines rusted out, but she fired right up with fresh gas and a good battery. An oil change new brake lines and she has been running like a scalded dog for me with standard maintenance for the last three years and still going.
