    The Dodge Challenger is definitely my dream car, and this 1973 is in serious need of some love after being off the road for 35 years! This factory 318 3 speed was in desperate need of being relocated to a new home, so follow along as we put this beautiful piece of American auto history back on the road!

      I'm a year late seeing this but I have to tell you, you make me pissed sometimes. When you get a vehicle with the wheels frozen in place, as you drag it from wherever it is, Hit the wheels with a big hammer and try to break them loose. Try not to hit the lug nuts and mess up the threads.

      It is 35 YEARS since it last was maintained and when he put a new battery in the headlights and turn signals LIT UP. They really don't make lightbulbs like that anymore i'll tell ya that much... especially since i'm betting they were probably a lot older than the 35 years it's been sitting.

      @@GOLD_FEVER The life it had booting back up was just the icing on the cake man. I see a lot of cars built to look cool and sound fast, which there's nothing wrong with it, but you can really just see the passion that went into manufacturing this 35+ year old relic man.

    • @julosx
      @julosx Před 11 měsíci

      That's what I was thinking about. Dylan will have to pull this car apart, make sure he doesn't even leave a single bolt screwed on. Then, disinfect because that many creepy-crawlies meant *biohazard* followed by a good old thorough rust removal of every single part, especially under the floor. Remove all carpets and finish to do it also on ther top side of the floor. Remove the seats and treat them. Remove also every mechanic, engine, clutch and speed box, fuel lines, electricity… In the end this old Challenger should be able to pass any inspection, travel any number of miles.
      In one word : good luck.

    You are a lucky or blessed somebody. I'm 53 years old, worked on cars all my life, been trying to find a 70-74 Challenger or 'Cuda/ Barracuda I could restore, but never have found one. They were either gotten to by someone before me or the seller wanted enough money where if I had that much money, I'd buy myself a new one. Unfortunately , these are rare as hens teeth, and always have been all my life, and I'm 52, been around a littlewhile...
    Worked for Mopar here in Pa most of my life as a tech, so I have a real love for all things Mopar. Love the channel, just subscribed and started binge watching. Started tonight with part one of the Challenger rescue, and I cannot wait to see what you do with it!.

      Plants can't make up their minds so don't bother with messing around with the soil.
      Just plant what you want to plant. Usually things that are supposed to thrive in one place and not in another place might for some reason thrive where it's not supposed to.

    I am new to this channel - and this Charger has my full attention! I gotta follow the Charger videos to the last one. This is gonna be good! I noticed some guys are like., "If it were me I'd do this - or that" and so on. Everybody has their own opinion on how to do something, but there's not just one way every time to do a certain thing. One way wont always work for the next person and so on. Just do what you do! This is good!

      Let the man's memory live on??? Are you kidding??? The idiot had absolutely no plans for it but to rot in a hayfield... If it meant so much to him, why not tell someone what to do with it in the event of his untimely death. He didn't have a will?This is why so many of these classic cars get sent to the junkyard.I hope he didn't let all his pets starve to death...

    Dylan I'm glad you got your dream car. I got my dream car much the same way. A 73 cuda. The car was just sitting in someone's driveway and just being used as a workbench for other shity cars. I traded my motorcycle that I payed 400 bucks for and that cuda was mine. That was in 1988. That cuda is still in my garage and now my sons are drooling and waiting for they're chance. I've also got a few other old muscle cars that are still works in progress. Keep up enjoying your challenger. She's a sweet ride 👍👍😎✌✌

    Nice Challenger Dylan. Looks like a keeper, I didn’t have my volume on so not sure if it’s a 3 speed or 4 speed, those cars were my era and most of them were 318 auto with the slap stick so I’d say the standard shift is a little rare. And that’s a nice green, hope you clean it up and get it going. Very nice unit for a restoration, I’d keep it stock but I love stock original but be a sick restomod ... more vids and where’s the Charger?

    Nice find for a 73. The 318 V8 was a durable and long production run engine right up to the redo of the Imperial in the early 80's, so you can find parts for it. Nice to see one from the 73/74 years being restored. Looking forward to the restoration. I subscribed.

My mom's old car that is a 1967 mustang, my uncle's old 1956 f100, and my grandfather even has an old buggy he turned into a monster truck himself, plus more I can't remember to think of. I love cars so much for some odd reason and It's my dream to one day when I'm older to go back and restore those old cars. 1st off...great car to start with...a restorers dream for sure...1/4s are unbelievable. but before you pull that old A motor, even if you are going to rebuild or replace it...you,ve got 1 huge ace card you may not have thought of with the manual transmission....get a tow-strap and pull it at about 5-10 mph in 1st and pop the clutch and depress rapidly several times...you may even do the same in reverse....if its not blown-up that,ll break it loose....saw a freak take a 67 mustang...the 302 hadnt ran in 20 years...i swore up and down it was seized...absolutely nothing would budge it....then 1 saturday he used that method over and over after pre-soaking...i said if it doesnt break free you,ll break a ring or ringland or worse...but he refused to quit....finally after about 20 tries...it broke loose, and fired right up and smoked like a chimney....i think he drove that car for 3 years....and it was running when he sold it.....real life true-story.....great car you,ve got with metric tons of potential.

      Yes, a buddy pulled a '66 Chevelle SS out of a field after near 20 yrs sitting. He got the engine freed up by towing the car while clutching in and out. Drove it like that for a year before rebuilding. Still driving it 35 years later.

    • @Imnotyourdoormat
      @Imnotyourdoormat Před 4 lety +1

      heres 1 for the timelys...hagerty has a brand new video out with engine-builder davin doing a ford model A motor... no 21..with the old-fashioned style crush-babbot bearings in it...takes over 100 ft-lbs of torque to turn the brand-new assembly over and that the starter may not hack it....said he,ll have to pull it behind another vehicle, break-in the super-tight bottom-end in this case, not the rusty ring-to-wall scenario at all...but still same principle.....but on a brand-newbee.

    If I might make a suggestion, before you give up on the 318 that was in it after engine is out, mount it in your stand and put a strap wrench around the harmonic balancer more often than not that will turn it loose. After all its a 318 darn near an indestructible engine. Keep up the great work you and your Dad do.

    Always good to lube cylinders as you did, then after a few days or so spin engine over with the starter while the plugs are out if it is unstuck, this pumps out the atf in the cylinders and gets oil pressure up before starting engine, it helps avoid a dry start that can damage bearings, cam and upper valve train, also I change the engine oil and filter before starting...

    Great video! I am restoring a 73 Rallye with a great pro shop near Frederick, MD. We are using components from a 72 base 318 car I bought in 1995 and tried to do myself. But as an amateur I was doing more harm than good and was over my head. The 340 for the Rallye is long gone but I will be using a bored out 318 a friend who raced sold me when he stepped up to a 360 for his Cuda - it is a nice engine; and this car will be a 4 speed. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos on this Challenger. Duane
