Watching you putting in the drive shaft reminded me of when in '63 I was helping my brother put one in his '55 Ford. That day I was doing two a day football practices and was helping out between practices. I dropped the shaft on my forehead and raised a pretty good sized bump. Couldn't put my helmet on and missed the afternoon practice. The things we remember...lol.

She's in pretty good condition for her age. It's a basic setup with the C4 trans. It's probably a 290 rear with no posi-track so only one tire will spin while it's hanging in the air. It bring back some crazy memories for that thanks👍

Good job bring it back to life. It still amazes me how well that 289 runs after sitting so long.
And the wheels not turning right away the first time you tried it is pretty common with an automatic. After you fill the transmission it needs to be started up. The transmission will fill the torque convertor basically draining the pan. So adding more fluid is needed to bring it back up to the full mark, so it will operate correctly.
And I second the vote for a manual transmission swap when the C4 craps out.

The best car I ever owned was a 1980 Ford Fairmont, it shared the chassis and engine with the Mustangs of the early '80s, the 200 I-6 was bored .030" over and it's head was shaved .015". You may want to look at how low of a VIN # it is because that dash is from a 64 1/2, easy way to notice the differences between the 64 1/2, 65 and the 66 is in the center above the steering wheel the '65, '66 have a hump going toward the steering column and the '64 1/2 is flat across the bottom. I found that out when I was in Pearl Harbor in the early '90s and had a '64 1/2 and a '66 both were notchbacks though. Also on the early dash it shows Gen and the later ones show Alt

Need to get back up there to Canada this summer as wife's brothers and sisters are not getting any younger, eh. Their home out by the lake is gorgeous too. Actually northwest of Toronto too not northeast I guess. So won't have to drive in downtown Toronto traffic to get there thank goodness. @@Theoldcarchannel.

I agree this needs to be restored back to factory original. In Elmira NY at 654 Sullivan Street sits an abandoned 1991 Ford mustang the owner is in the military. It hadn't run in over a year and a half. The motor is seized up. The owner tried to remove the rear drive axle to unseize the motor thereby breaking the rear drive axle. My hope is someone will locate the owner buy it and fix it up before it rots away and becomes scrap iron. That would be a shame they are highly sought after muscle cars. To let it sit and rot away would be wrong. Fan of restoring old vehicles Robert Gildea

Thank you Spencer, really appreciate this awesome comment! You are correct about new cars... I feel as if they have no souls (aside from a few). They just seem to be things to take you from point A to point B. Now same could be said for cars that were new in the 60s but at least they had style and personality. It's a shame the way things are going and I think its only going to get worse for us classic folks. In saying that, I'll be doing whatever I can to keep these classics going. Come spring time (few more weeks) I'll start bringing the cars out! Should be a good time!

When trying to figure out what an older jaloppy needs always look at whats in the trunk or what in the boxes or containers that come with that particular car then look at what you got from there, you'll know exactly what you will most likely need to fix. The less you see in a trunk the better. LOL

I just have to share with you guys that i got myself a 2015 Mustang GT manual with a complete adjustable suspension (aftermarket) and tweaked to 460 hp. I know that in Canada and US it’s nothing special. But i live in Denmark and here the Mustang is more rare than Porsche’s and Ferrari’s.
I am absolutely in love with my car and every little trip takes me to grand Canyon, New York, Quebec and so on......
This car is so unfiltred and true to a genuine driving experience.
You guys are so fortunate having access to old fastback’s like the one you guys are working on now....
Keep up this great channel a the good vibes ✌️😎

Trand fluid is probably still not at the right level. Gotta check level while the car is level. Having the back up on jack stands is throwing off your measurement

@@Theoldcarchannel. Leave it low on the stick. Check and top off after your test drive. If you even want it perfectly full. If it's right on full when cold it will be overfull when hot. Overfull C4's will leak.

This will sound ridiculous as it did to me when I first heard about it from my 15 year old nephew. He was putting his grandfathers old 1978 f150 back on the road after 25 years of sitting and it had similar transmissions problems to your mustang. They (him and his father) decided to remove as much old trans fluid as possible and refill the trans with new fluid (also cleaned trans pan screen/filter replaced) After running it through the gears for 30 seconds each with their foot on the brake and no acceleration, it worked. It's now running just great. I really thought it wouldn't have worked but it did.

@@OnlyMyOpinionWhat was nice about Fords back then was that they had drain plugs on the torque converter. You could do a full fluid change if you wanted. For this Mustang you would drop the pan and pull the drain plug on the converter. Once back together get ready with about 8 quarts.
