- It never rains, but it pours. With unusual things happening in what has already been an unpredictable season... we're in for a hell of a race! The world stage is set and we've waited long enough. With extreme weather taking a toll on both the timing and the possibilities of what was safe to ride for the day, the format of the race has been cut from a 4 stage to a 2 stage race. We're still excited, for the first time this season, to see some of our favourite athletes setting out against the clock, aiming to stay on two wheels & keep it between the tapes for a shot at today's podium and of course, points for the overall constructor's championship

In my case, it only takes 2 years of weekend warrior riding mixed with one or two weeks of bike parks in order to be able to race these tracks with relative ease. I don’t know how old u are but you seem like a young lad so you’ll lear quickly too. But if you want to really speed up the proses go ride and maybe race agains some of the local pros or advanced riders and join a club. I did it way to late and I think if I followed some better riders I would have been quite a bit better by now.

Sam Jones I started when I was 14, on a bike just like urs, just this year at age 16 I did the mega (megavalanche, I think it’s fair to say it is the most difficult and the biggest non pro race) with ease and went to les orres bike park and rode the ews course from last year. After about a year of riding and racing you will have the basics and then it’s about going and going a bit balls to the wall but still one step at the time. Get couching if possible, that helped a lot for me and I took it way to late. You’ll be there in no time

this has always been a problem with the EWS coverage and too annoying and cringy.. By just adding loud music, the camera men only have to focus on the visual side and not have to care about the on-location audio. It's really quite amateurish...

The same guy who picked all the music in the NWD-video-series and Kranked-video-series in the 90s, chose the music and the music-volume for this one here. TRUE....??
But on the other hand, it's heartwarming that you gave this old warhorse, with an obvious hearing-damage, a job in video-production again. Bless you.

if you decide to use damn overpowering music at least balance the volume of narrating comments to music, prefer natural sound of pure race,,,,,, anyway glad the racing is back, cheers V!

Can we have more cover from the runs them self? Would be nice to see a whole run down the different courses by the racers themselves.
I'm sure that covering Enduro is much more challenging and expensive than Downhill due to the courses. It's like comparing NASCAR or F1 coverage to Rally. I have always loved watching Rally but coverage has been sparse in N.A. my whole damn life. Friggin' economic realities! I share the hope but have to admit that it is a tall order. The more challenging the course, the harder it is to film.
Wasabi gets it! And unfortunately in this case the weather played a significant part in ruining many peoples self-shot footage that could have been added to the video
Understandable but still unfortunate. Still keep the videos coming, the craving for videos like this is high!

These sort of video show gmbn content at its best. They thrive at the simple stuff like how to’s and series style videos but when vids like this and “epic rides” such as Blake and Neil’s Patagonia ride will always be appreciated guys. The effort into production is noticed. well done 🙌👍🤟

Great coverage as always. I think Jesse racing at crankworx really boosted him there! So pleased for him to get the win. When the conditions are like this I would love for you to do a setup feature on how each rider adjusts the bike and themselves for these wet conditions, what tyres, sus change and any other tips... (going to look back through your old vids to see if you did this already maybe in the year when every race was WET! :) )

Those few crankworks races last month seem to really stand to Jesse. Man has hit the ground running this year. Fair play.
Great coverage by Pinkbike and GMBN, they should collaborate Crankworx with McCaul and Jackson. Crankworx coverage is always so weak and unorganized. They only seem to take slopestyle seriously.

GMBN & EWS: if Nate Hills could do a live stream by himself in the middle of nowhere, then so could you. With such a great arrangement and exiting competition - it deserves nothing less! A commentator with guests, who reports results and show videos of riders for specific parts of the track. Use drones and pov. Do it. Do it!
That's an awful lot of moving parts jj! It may be a few years away from that yet! We were going to be out there to provide guest analysis and commentary but unfortunately not this year due to travel restrictions
So good to see this, and you could tell that all the riders were just so happy to be racing again, even in such awful conditions! Is there a restriction on using drones for filming races? I bet that would add something extra to the coverage if it was possible. And maybe this is just me, but I like to hear the actual bike noises sometimes without the over-dubbed music. Neither of those is a criticism - keep up the excellent work!!!
Thanks Eliot! The Team on the Ground are a fan of a drone or two, unfortunately they are limited by weather and geographic conditions, Zermatt is a hotspot for helicopters so we believe the mountain itself is a no drone area, and a lot of other rounds happen in forested areas where flying is difficult. But where they can, they will!

Do people prefer clip pedals for the wet weather? I dont clip but do occasionally slip off on the more technical stuff in wet weather
We'd hazard a guess at 90% of the EWS field preferring to ride clips! Although theres a solid argument that it's better to ride flats in horrible conditions since if the bike starts to slide you can dab a little easier/quicker

It still is Andrei, but it's a weird year and the weather took a big toll on what could actually be done with this race specifically! We're sure the next one's will be back bigger and better
i love the EWS race and format. U One complaint I've always had with EWS highlights show is the poor music and that hasn't changed with this edition. The poor choices of the sound library music really hurt it (and the sound mix isn't helping). Companies like Anthill and Revel have shown that works is atmospheric music rather than energetic music. Hope it improves on future episodes.

Where can I watch the entire race? Highlights suck
Nowhere Daniel! It's pretty difficult to broadcast the full shabang since the courses are so long and varied! So the highlights are all we can do for now! Future highlights will be a bit longer though since there will be more racing across more stages and hopefully the weather will play ball so we can shoot more!
Makes you wonder how bad was ravanel injured? Why aint she back?
She broke her back and we think she was basically told by doctors that another serious accident could result in death. So she's riding but taking it easier (which is still riding amazingly obviously) and we don't expect to see her back between the tapes this year at least. She's still at the events at least in a coaching role for others on the Commencal team

Can someone explain enduro to me please? It's like DH but slower with a bit of slow XC (wearing a full face).
i would have the same question. Are these guys to slow for the Downhill WC and to weak for real XC races?
