I remember when she was running for President, first Black person, Woman, and someone with a speech impediment running for President. Brave woman! Deserves much more kudos for her bravery!
I do too! I was a little kid but I remember the adults all talking about her. I lived in San Diego at the time, and all of the adults in my orbit thought she was sharp as hell! I wish we had one of her now too because the one we've got... Is no Shirley. That's me being nice lol.
Cydnee, I'm glad you're taking care of your mental health, other than your physical health it's really all you've got that's truly yours. I've been married once, 6 years, 2 girls, got divorced at 26 and have never done it again. I just turned 60. My kids are grown, I've got 2 grandsons, I do what I want, how I want, when I want, with whom I want. Nobody dragging me down, sucking my energy away, trying to make me doubt myself, nagging, ragging, and generally getting in my way. I'm glad I had my girls, but I wish I'd never gotten married. I was 20 and totally made him my world. Biggest mistake I ever made. I don't regret not getting married again, your grandmothers are wise ladies lol

And was! I think our authentic selves are and our avatars our just wanting to REST frfr. Social media doesn't make it any easier constantly comparing what you don't have to what everyone else has. We were never designed to be this way

Shirley Chisholm was an absolute powerhouse, I was so happy when I saw you were covering her. Seeing her speak gave me chills. The fact that she accomplished so much in the early 1970s is a testament to her brilliance, fortitude, and perseverance. She had the nomination basically stolen from her, as she was FAR more popular than McGovern. I have no doubt that both conventions were actually behind Nixon and couldn't risk Congresswoman Chisholm as the democratic candidate because she would have absolutely been a much stronger contender than McGovern.
Anyway so glad to see you back. Love the locs, love the makeup look, and love Shirley Chisholm.

Her mother was from Barbados, Vauxhall Primary school, was recently renamed after her here.
No wonder as to why I did a recital as a kid speaking about Shirley Chisholm. She was really THAT GIRL💯.

Glad yo see you back, and hope you’re feeling better. I was just thinking about Makeup and History the other day. I did not know this story. I’m not even shocked anymore when I learn important history like this wasn’t taught in schools in the 80s and 90s. I’m really glad to learn about it now.
