Not gonna lie.. Taylor changing his picture for youtube tripped me out a lil bit 😂
Has thrown me off so much
Same. I like the new picture, but I don't recognize the upload immediately.
Wonder how long it would’ve been before I even noticed!?😂 ty
Yeah the first day he changed it i was so confused. But obviously realized who it was pretty quick
Yeah, i noticed he changed it a long time ago and everytime it question if i clicked on the right channel/video 🤣
Josue is the MVP. Seriously, that dude is the perfect compliment to Taylor's frenetic nature. Can't wait to see them fielding an F1 team haha.
Yeah, and their trash talk is enjoyable:)
A CZcams F1 team would be bananas, it would have to be such a wide ranging collaboration to make happen but that would be such a cool team
@Jack Snap all I wanted with my life was to work in formula 1 as an engineer. It wasn't to be. Here's hoping!!
The most important factor to setting up a diff is not preload or backlash. It's pinion depth and thus gear pattern. You can have perfect backlash and preload with a pinion that's too deep or too shallow and it will howl and kill the gears.
I hope you put some marking compound on those gears and checked the pattern.
You sir are very right.
He said he checked and got a good pattern.
Yep, I like the drag method of preload.
But teeth are the reason most fail
I've been setting up diffs for 30 years. I'm not going to lie it's a little painful watching him set this up. But he got it done.
@@shawnhampton9686 i dont think he realized he could make a setup bearing with the old bearing lol. no pressing. ive watched it done a few times
I love Josue. "Thats my job!" Then watching Taylor jist walk away from the door chain 😂😂
There's nothing like that First-Drive-After-Repairs feeling.
Holy shit man I watched your videos for years when I was younger and to come back now and see how far you’ve come is absolute crazy congratulations mate
It's 1:20 am I just got done wrenching on my golf. This shall be my sleep music
When setting up depth, I always get a second outer pinion bearing and open up the bearing's ID so the tolerance fit is gone and it can be installed by sliding it on and off the pinion. Eliminates having to mess with pressing it on and off during set-up.
Man where would u be without Josue. That dude is the perfect compliment to you. Great job on the diff. I don't have the patience for that.
“It’s super lean” and continues to drive it decently hard ahaha.
These videos give me so much drive for my 86
I was literally looking at the muteki set. Glad to hear good things about them.
Josue keeping T Ray sane. Lol great team work!
So stoked that you’re coming up to English Town for the world tour .
I really enjoy how in depth this gear set up process is. Still teasing me with the magnetic coozie that I ordered one of in October and still never received. I've sent multiple emails and never heard back. Keep up the great videos.
Love the AE86 uploads! Can't wait to see the new carb setup! My guess is you've got some Keihin FCR carbs for it, they're a very common bike carb set ran by oldschool AE86 d1gp pros like Imamura, Ueo, Kaicho and Gen Terasaki from GT Works. If it worked for them it will for sure work for this one!
Yep that’s the plan! I ordered some but now they’re not responding. We’re supposed to ship a week ago 😅 hopefully I get them in soon. I’ve heard great things!
@@Taylordrifts Thats awesome! Can't wait to hear the amazing clack idle and intake noise when its all put back together with them, the throttle response is gonna be out of this world! One of the popular things to do with them for reliability is to change the plastic rollers on the slides for actual bearings and bearing guides, so if theres a very tiny dent inside the slide housing from a bike being held at a certain rpm alot, caused by the stock roller on the slide, the rpms wont stick in that spot when you let off. Kaicho on his channel runningfree86 on the video "FCR SEPベアリングガイド AE86 LIFE with SEP BEARING GUIDE English Dub" goes super in depth with FCR Carbs on his AE86!
So glad you installed that wideband o2 on it finally. It will make your life a lot easier. Now you just need to build a diy balancer and you will be able to tune any carbs in no time, if you have spare jets and drill bits.
I want Monte Carlo update! So cool. Thanks dude
I would love to see a cleaned up engine bay. Delete everything. Let her eat
Bro... Get an extra pinion bearing and use a small burr on a die grinder and open up the inner bearing so it will slide on and off the pinion. Then you can just slide it on and off while you get your shim pack at the right thickness. Then press on the other bearing after the shims are sorted out...
Bring the Monte Carlo back
Thank you guys for bringing light to the 4age engine❤️
I love that you are doing a nostalgic build. I feel like that is hard to find these days!!!
Here’s a few tips for next time.
Cut up an old bearing use the inner race to press on the diff bearings
Ring gear, throw it in the oven to heat it up to slide her on.
AEM does have an AFR gauge that's classic looking, just a 270 degree sweep needle, looking like classic VDO gauges. Would look cool in one of the air vents.
Ooo Taylor posted I’m there😎
I love how informational all your videos are
Taylor that lsd is not lubricated well enough, mine did the same thing its the clutch plates chattering you need to douse the clutches in fluid before you install them in the clutch pack. you can also use lsd additive to get rid of the noise, also a good diff fluid.
i put my gauges in the driver side air vents. they looked great.
The cefiro is all one colour !
Mannnn the stable is strong, so good to see how happy you are dude
Pump those keihin jets up my guy. Most power sports shops that sell quads bikes dirt bikes will have cases of jets for around 5$ a jet. Probably need a couple sizes on the main and a size on the pilot. Your mid-range tuning will come from dropping or raising the needle a clip.
Dude this thing is so sick!
God I love yhe Cephiro. You really did a great job on the build
I know this video is about the 86 but I just love the Cephiro
Love this car man! This era of cars is my thing. 🤘
Love it keep up the most excellent work. Thank you 😊
That Steering Colum Flip wheel is so sick
for tomei/kaaz diff break in, factory kaaz specs say you can use regular gear oil to break in (your figure 8's on/off throttle for 15-25min, drive around a little, then drain all that metal filled fluid out, then pop in the nice tomei/kaaz oil. done this on all 3 of my kaaz/tomei diffs...as a late heads up...and the wideband is supposed to be x inch from the head flange as well so could have put in the exhaust where its supposed to go and then your header choice wouldn't matter. heat sensitive and all that.
I had the same noise with my clutch type lsd in my 86. I now run a conventional gear lube with a lsd addictive. It got rid of the clunks from the clutches.
Your 1/2 slip diff will make noise. This will be amplified through the car when you put solid bushes in it. The squishy rubber keeps some of the noise out of the unibody. I just picked up a 1981 sr5 that I will be playing with. I have done many old school Toyotas. I prefer the old 2 and 3tc engines for the sake of true old school. Loving the 86 content.
After AngryCops "stream," I needed something organized and calming. Taylor Ray to the rescue. (AC's stream was a HILARIOUS failure.)
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
Great video. Amazing video
Taylor, your videos are so consistent. Appreciate the contact brother.
Great content thanks for sharing
More of this car please!
Love to see it
Use the old bearing for measurement. Just sand down the inside so they slide on to the pinion. It makes it easier to get it done with out pressing them on and off. Once your good throw the new bearing in and double check.
this car is looking so clean
White lithium grease on the teeth of the gears will give you a good indication of tooth engagement .
21:48 Josue: "it's MY JOB!"
If you want to heat the ring gear to put it on its best to have a couple of studs to guide. Then do the freeze the carrier and heat the ring gear trick. Works every time.
Damn that's crazy the hylomar worked in the Miata dif. It's more of a gasket dresser, not a liquid gasket but you might be on to something if it does work. Mainly made to hold o-rings and seals in place while you bolt it together.
Just as you started your car I heard my girlfriend coming up the driveway in her 4age Levin. Weird timing, hearing all the throttle bodies. 😂
Aem make a analog style wide band gauge if you want it to look a little bit old school
we need a full shop tool tour
Least favorite build by far, but glad you are enjoying it!
Autometer do a cool period correct analog wideband gauge.
It could be reading lean because the O2 is downstream from a non-sealed connection there were the springs are where the header converges.
HELL YEAH!!!
Diffs are probably the one thing I'll pay someone to do Haha
Hylomar blue is great, use it in assembling rotary engines to help hold in the water jacket orings and in sealing the foot where the housings and irons join the sump
I forgot about that stuff! I used it for the same thing about 18yrs ago when I was rebuilding and porting a 13b in my old 87 RX7.
@@ktga67ish 84 rx7 here. Half bridge, dowled turbo 12a. Rotaries are so much fun to work on 😅
Don't the Legend cars use the rear end out of a corolla? Thought I read that somewhere, but loving the AE86 series!
I can't wait that the cefiro and ae86 being sold and put effort in the SS and the miata and the next fabrication build.
Josuès Fault :- would make a great little sticker 😂
Looks great would be cool to see it on some wider tires
The crush sleeve has been used for a hundred years with no problems. Only time they have issues is with improper installation. Blame the builder not the part.
I just had the solid sleeve installed in my 1970 gto my mechanic insisted on it
Be fun to see flat slide carbs again. Haven't seen those in years. Helped put them on a CBRR 900 years ago. Think it was 99 idk
Not only with carbs do you need to set the fuel mixture correct but they need to be balanced as well.
i work in a dealer and i have never seen a crush sleeve get loose over time...
I bet your happy to have the press air powered. :)
Live stream soon taylor? Loving this series!
You should consider a triple stacker 4 post lift to store your “race cars”.
So worth the $10-20 to make setup bearings
Freeze your races. Makes it so much easier
Gotta get that top end tick taken care of
Use two copper wire and witching it. Where the the water is coming up in the drive way
With the Cefiro bumper and stock hood back on must mean it’s on the way out the door. Rip Cefiro.
I use permatex aviation sealant. Sounds like the same thing as that blue stuff.
Flat-tops?
Sounds like It's going to be a NO, on installing an LSD w/4.88s into my Tacoma 😂
Love the Corolla content 😎
Idk how it works on cars, but for motorcycles, a “4 into 1” header creates a very cool sound. Wonder if that’s a thing for cars or if it creates a similar result.
Showed us my favorite two cars you have lol sorry the miata is third ❤
Came for the blue lug nut socket…. Didn’t see a link!
Instead of pressing it on/off a million times I use the old bearing as a “dummy” bearing by taking a small amount of material out of the center of the bearing so it slides on/off the pinion. Usually use a die grinder. Too late this time but maybe it’ll help next time.
Just curious, wouldn’t you want to torque the ring down before getting the lash set, as it might change slightly as it tightens, or is it inconsequential
Lets gooooooo
let’s goooooo more 86 content
did you uh… remember to tighten the diff when it was assembled like you said before you put it in the housing lol
Play with the carbs. Experience is Experience lol.
"I'll link that below". Well.... We're waiting!
You should have gotten an extra bearing or use the old and make a set up bearing
I saw the cefiro and thought: whats wrong with this thing, it looks different?
And then realized that it has a hood in body color 😮
Did you consider putting the gauge in the air vent on the door side? Would look clean and neat there
You need a media blaster.
Taylor looked so sad when Josue said "it's my job"
Dear Taylor, could you please build a custom storage solution for the loose hardware sitting on the hoist arms 🙂🙂
Hope you can make some $ selling those other 2 sets of carbs? Third times a charm!
I'm putting an AEM wideband in the glove box of my Miata because I also think it looks out of place
Would the wideband fit in the air vent?
Did you ever torque the ring gear bolts?
Did you hook up the vacuum to the CV port?
