- It's time for a new build. This time my 1986 Corolla GTS Coupe AE86 build. We're taking this thing back to the old days with a full nostalgia buildout. Carbs, MSD Ignition, 16v 4age, Big cams, and all the right stuff to make it fun.

Don't forget to check shim clearance when installing bigger cams.
Now I’m really gonna look forward to this. Didn’t even know Taylor had this car until now. Keep it up Taylor
The excitement about the build, the details in the jibber-jabber, the thought process explanations...
These are a few of my favorite things!!
Agreed
Glad your back on the 86. Love that it's going carb. 😎👍🔰
Sooo excited for this thing. Love all the projects but really glad your keeping this 4age and doing it super old school. I don’t know anything about setting up carbs so I’m looking forward to the jibber jabber about it! Always loved 86’s and super excited for each stage on this thing and hearing those Carbs scream!
Heck Yeah!!! I was hoping you would finally get some time, to work back on the AE86.
I’m super excited to get this thing going! This car gives me all the feels!
Taylor’s explanation of staying focused while working is spot on 👏 it’s so easy to zone out and go into autopilot 👨🔧
Make sure you check the valve bucket clearance to the new cam
Miss my 86 coupe so much. Excited for this build!
So god damn happy taylor got a 86 even if I am late to seeing this, genuinely one of my favorite youtubers just because there's no bullshit, no overhyping, just a dude that likes cars, chill as hell, and makes some banger content. Hell yeah man welcome back to the 86 community dont let this one slip haha!
Thank you somebody finally has some clean, simple merch! I'll be buying that Hoody.
I know exactly what you mean with a car "for the nostalgic feels".
My NA Miata serves that exact purpose, and it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it :-)
I love that this is a 100% passion build. The ultimate garage built car
My man acknowledged the rabbit hole lol. As soon as the hood was off I knew a paint job would be mentioned.
This is going to be my favourite series by far
I like this retro build with Cams and carbs. My brother had a '78 Pinto in the mid 80s. It was .040 over 2.3L, 10:1, solid lift Racer Walsh Stage 3 cam , ported D port head , Cyclone header, Offy 2bbl intake and a 500 CFM Holley. It was a blast and really fast.
AE86 With a 4a is about the most smiles/ mile you can get!
This is what it's all about! Good old school setup. You really cannot go wrong! Old school D1GP drivers like Imamura from ICBM and Hiroshi from running free ran flatslide CR carbs back in the day.
I daily my bike carbed '93 VW Polo and aside from the cold starts being a tiny bit of a challenge, it never fails to put a smile on my face! Very excited to see this build take shape
It already puts a smile on my face
Thanks for all the awesome content!
You're probably the only person I've watched the full length video of you just doing shit around your shop for 20-30min. It's like hanging out with a buddy and also very informative at times.
joe is a legend up here! love to see you have this beauty now, cant wait to see it all finished and ripping!
yes tray!!!!
this car looks amazing! thank for this videos you got good editing and good relaxed style
As soon as you showed the new sweaters I had to get one even though I’m pretty much broke haha but hey I have to support my favorite CZcamsr some how even though it’s not a lot but hey I’ve been watching you for so long and after my accident your videos were my favorite to keep me going I love you man keep doing what you’re doing it makes all of us that are having a rough time have a pretty great time, you always make my smile
Wicked progress. She gonna be fun to drive. 😁👍
I have in my basement OG Watanabe AE86 rims from like 20yrs ago stored. Always wanted one of these but never got the chance to get one. So excited on this build
When i rebuilt the engine in my wifes first car i borrowed her uncles ohv/ohc vlave spring compressor And it made it super easy to set the valve spring and retainers.
oh man this is a sick!! I dont watch every video anymore I wont lie but the check ins I get in my recommended page every couple weeks are always a treat! Hope its an exciting adventure, great video as always 😎 shops come a long way for sure
My man!!! Who’s a day 1 in here!!!!
Been here since he was talking about raffling the Miata. I forget when that was.
Been here since the first drift vette
Proper ae86 content. I enjoy the bike carbs on my 3TC although I need to do some tuning and more modifications, but I couldn’t be happier. But MAN do I miss having a 4age.
I want to pull my hair out when the jetting is off and everything I’ve tried doesn’t work! Lol love it 😂
I love the pace of your videos
Just found my way here from Chelsea's video. Excited I found this channel, what an exciting build.
19:36 is a great cut transition!! NIce natural flow! It's like you have done this a time or two hahaha!!
Nice, keep it simple and old school.
soooo stoked on the 86! cant wait for more!
I love the route you're going with this build! Very true and proper to the 86 tuning world
❤the car, sweet build👌🏾😎 can't wait to see you get it going👍🏾👍🏾
Love carbs, they are great if you like to tinker and knowing you you will have it running sweet under all load conditions 👌🏻
Damn. So absolutely stoked for this build. Been hoping you’d have some updates for this and the message the other night. Ooooh boy am I stoked for this one. Ae86 builds are few these days and an coupe in millennium jade. Epic.
Tidy project you've got.
Glad you're sticking with the 4AGE. The Beams would of been a good swap, but this fits the vibe better.
Can't wait to see it all done and maybe doing some rings lad?
Yeah I was all for the beams at first. Then I drove it with the 4age and just loved the feel and realized this car is way more about feel and fun than outright power and speed. I have plenty of fast cars. This just needs to be enjoyable. Revving this thing to 8-8500 with the carbs sucking in air is what I want more than anything.
@@Taylordrifts Beams also isn't off the table in the future either, especially going n/a carbd
@@Taylordrifts you dont need to do anything to the fuel system. trust me i actually know what im talking about (the one time i actually know something. i can run you through the proper way to do everything for your carb conversion. dude shoot me a dm Mightbe_ed
@@Taylordrifts
Well it's all about that driving experience as you say.
Found smaller engined cars can put a bigger smile on your face. As you have to work for it.
What you're doing is exactly how some mad lad in Japan would of modified it. It'll be very period correct and oh boy when those DCOE's are set up, it'll sound mint 👌.
#allofthechoms! 😂
Glad your finally building this
Awesome! Stoked you are doing this
Finally someone uses those ebay brand camshaft and springs. Wanted to see them reviewed. I have tomei poncoms in my 4age 16v and supertech valve train
My favorite build!
Yeaass that new black on black design is sooooo sick im definitely gonna atleast get a hoodie for sure
can't wait to hear this thing run
I'm the farthest from a "car guy". Am a heavy equipment mechanic but really enjoy your channel . Lots of detail and entertaining . Very good quality .
This is a really exciting build bro can’t wait!
Been waiting for this 86 content
The 86 is my favorite car of the fleet
I’m so pumped for this build man
jus the type of content i needed to see
Love this kind of build. Simple, sweet, and to the point.
one of my dream cars to have AE 86
I love the idea of building something exactly how you want it don't listen to what other people are saying. If it brings a smile to your face all the negative feedback is just white noise.
With a 7A-fe block with high compression pistons and that head I have seen and heard it and it's a spicy 🔥🔥🔥 engine
Just ordered the hoodie. Love the simplicity and appreciate quality/durable clothes.
You won’t be disappointed! The hoodies are so nice! Super beefy but not too thick and hot. A really nice in between.
Really glad Joe's car ended up with you. Hopefully we can drive together some day.
Can't wait to hear the dorts and go kart track time attack!
It looks amazing 👏
Dude. So sick!!! You're almost there. I finally installed my lower rad hose on the v8s10 so I'm also getting close to being done 🤘🏼 rock on bro keep ot up
Cool build!!! Can’t wait for first start up :-)
Those wheels are so cool 😎
Excited to see you going with a simple and clean carb setup on this, it fits the feel and vibe of this car perfectly!
super stoked on this build. we've been building and learning to drift in an ae86 over on our channel. these cars are such a blast!!
Currently swapping everything off my s14 onto my newer nicer chassis and this the perf video to get me through it😆
The ASMR time lapse is why I'm here.
This will be COOL BUILD!
Thank you for keeping this 4A-GE!!! great work as always, Cant wait to see hear this ripping!
This has been a dream build of mine since I saw one in import tuner mag like 15 years ago
Omggg Yeasss iv been excited for this build!!!
i totally forgot you had this, such a sick car. those wheels are so badass
this gets me excited to build my corolla too woot woot🙌
I am so fucking stoked for this build. I have a 74 Datsun Z that I am building. I have decided to keep it old school. I have an L28 wIth weber carbs and header back exhaust. It sounds amazing, but I have little to no idea what the hell to do with the tuning and maintenance of the carbs and the linkage systems, and that is kind of terrifying. Being a 90s kid I am intimidated by the "simple" tech.
Its very cool to be able to watch your approach to this build as it closely mirrors what I am trying to do with mine. Its so sick to see something old school. If we, as car guys, are going are going to preserve these classic cars, we have to understand how they work, and a link ecu wont save us this time!
Hell yes. I'm living through you with this build. literally my dream car.
I love the direction you are going with the 86 🤩
This is a sweet build!
I love the super informative videos, that's one of the big reasons I always watch bc I always get to learn!
I LOVE this content. Car, purpose, plans and edit. Awesome
Also definitely good to follow your usual strategy of "run it first, then experience what you want to do for your end game".
Enjoy seeing the work you are doing on your AE86. My 1974 Trueno Sprinter GT had the 2T-G engine with twin Solex carbs. Thanks for sharing this video.
Hell yeah! Nostalgic to the point of putting it up on the wood blocks opposed to the plastic mini-ramps, love to see it
I’ve been looking forward to the day you start on this project, cannot wait to see how this turns out always had a soft spot for AE86’s!
Noti squad.
Happy to see this one get some wrench time!
Best video you've done in a while. Full on custom built competition cars are cool in their own right. But this though, it has so much character! The smiles per gallon it will give are priceless. Greatly looking forward to future 86 videos
This may be my favorite build so far! I have a '71 VW fastback on 14x7 slots that sits almost identical to the 86. Love the old school stuff!
Merry Christmas TRay 🎄👍🏻
This things going to be so cool, I love the direction you're gong with it
Super excited for this build, can’t wait till the next episode
stoked for this series!
Hell yeah this is a project car. Luv the itb setup so much. Luv these cars done this way.
Finally 86 content, giving me loads of ideas for mine! Never knew about the baffled rocker cover bits! Berry cool
Hell yea been waiting for this for a minute love the 86
Ready for this build to get out of hand !! Hyped for this one too!!
Excellent !
Love the AE86 content👍🏻
I’m definitely stoked to see a simple build like this
I’m really excited for this car build !
Yes. Thats the best style. Late 90’s-early 2000’s Japan drift style. Big bumper, no skirts, small fat wheels, lots of stretch, slammed. 👌🏼
That is an absolutely beautiful machine.
