    3 portable 100w. suitcase panels, going into a 40amp controller, going into 200ah of gel batteries. No inverter, no generator, all 12v. uses...running furnace, two compressor fridges. Worked perfectly all last winter. Installed myself. All Renogy, in a 10' Aliner. Can consult and make simple.

    Bob nice of you to have an open invitation to becoming a nomad and not shutting the door on those who will need assistance down the road. Many people don’t realize these last few months were just a start of a serious wake up call to a new way of living. I applaud those who are living this life as a nomad without regret and making the best of it. I still live in brick and mortar mainly because of health and mobility reasons. I have downsized a whole lot from watching you and others.

    My old van I had at 19 was a Ford Econoline, X- Telephone truck. They had ladder racks, just plugged them with butyl rubber, never leaked in 20+ years. Don't be afraid to cut holes in a metal van roof.

    Thank you! Everyone has knowledge, inspiration, a helpful hand, etc to help our fellow man. Thank you! You inspire so many and give hope, a reason, and stregenth to so many. Keep faith and keep living! There's a reason even if we don't see it every moment. God Bless! TN just passed a law that public sleeping is a felony. I have no idea how far the local pd's in each county will enforce this. I'm so sad and upset by this new law! Each one of us are only human, things happen we can't control. Jesus lay his head wherever and whenever He needed to sleep. He didn't even have a tent that I know of. Why do some people think they are better than our own Lord. This is horrible. Especially when TN has so much to offer otherwise. I'd like to stay as private as possible. How can a traveler contact me, safely, If they need a place to park to rest. I have no water now. I have to go to town, if my van starts, to buy water by the gallon but thank God, I have some limited electric. I basically camp indoors. Thank God for blessings! Your videos are such an inspiration. Thank you for all you do.

    For though's rainy days I have 2 switches that turn off my controller and solar panels, I then have a throw over switch (disabling the solar setup) from my starter battery for when the vehicle is running with a smart relay inline. I've also permanently ground down my leisure battery to the chassis of the vehicle. I've also installed a throw-over switch from my solar setup so I have the option of charging/conditioning my starter battery but not to charge the leisure battery at the same time as it's not recommended due to it being an AGM. I place a plastic bag in the dashboard to remind me it's in this position before starting the van. Hope this helps!

    I realize that some things are definitely over-priced. I like to say most are! And when you are low income and can't afford rent that drives you into van living.
    But all this electronic yammer is just way too confusing. I have lights that run on little cell batteries. They last months before I need to replace the little round cell. I have a butane single burner stove. Lights and cooking are all taken care of. But heating at night with a small 5 x 7 inch 200 w Lasko heater in my little van, - how on earth would I know what solar panel, what portable battery and anything else I would need to power that little thing in the winter AZ desert for 8 hours at night! I just don't know the set up I would need to cover that.

    Mr. Wells, my question has nothing to do with your subject matter but I would like to ask a few questions. The Bureau of Land Mass out West is great. I'm on East Coast in NC. Many years ago, in TN, they had TVA- Tennessee Valley Authority, land areas where large community of people could live in their campers or RVs at a very affordable price. I was told TVA made everyone leave and no longer allows people to live there. To my knowledge, and I've heard you mention this situation in previous video, there are no Federal lands on East Coast, such as there is out West. Why? What happened? Do you or does anyone know the answer(s)? Would really appreciate answers.

    Question:, Do you install your solar set up before you insulate and build out your cargo van? Or can you do it after? Not sure which to do first. TIA

  • @beckyelliott2871
    @beckyelliott2871 Před 4 lety +1

    In order to minimize my electric bill so I can eventually get a cargo van and get out of the “welfare trap”, I am saving money to get a portable solar power system for my apartment.
    I would of course, get the advice and assistance of an expert in solar installations to do this for me.
    The solar panel is large and has all the hook up wiring included. What size battery(ies) and other parts do I need? This is not for emergencies, but to cut down on my bill, which can get pricey in the Summer and will also be “re-purpose d” to power the cargo van in due time.
    I have been told that the power company can levy a huge fine for “infringing” on their ability to provide power to my apartment by using solar panels for my purposes.
    I stated that the power company cannot charge folks for using the sun to dry their clothes on a clothesline, and that legitimate companies who install solar power panels on homes are not committing a crime.
