the rescuer's down under was the first animated film sequel that Disney theatrically released. It is also one of the sleepers of the Disney renaissance. people forget that it came out in 1990 between the little mermaid and beauty and the beast and can think it came out during the dark age not the renaissance. Also fun fact: it was the first film to be created fully digitally, using CAPS

And, since we are singing this movie's praises, its the ONLY Disney sequel to be considered part of Disney's main animated canon. And one of the only sequels (in my humble opinion) that not only matches its predecessor....it is BETTER than the first one in pretty much every way....especially the animation.

Shout out to George C. Scott as Percival Mcleash, one of the best old villains, i especially love how he is thr anti Amos Slade from Fox and the Hound, for while Amos is not an inherrently bad man, and cares for his animals
Mckleash is cruel, uncaring and bitter to the point he has no one to support him not even Johanna when he needs her at the end on the falls
Unlike Amos who had copper's loyalty to defend him.

You were correct! There are VERY few circumstances that allow a person to legally own an eagle feather in the United States. For the most part, only people who are legally recognized as being a member of a North American Indigenous tribe can own an eagle feather or parts, because of the aptly-named Eagle Feather Law. It protects Indigenous people's rights to utilize those parts for their spiritual and traditional practices.
Then there's also the Migratory Bird Act, which is a whole other thing

The voice of Percival McLeach was the incredible George C. Scott who is perhaps best known for his roles as General Buck Turgidson in Kubrick’s _Dr. Strangelove,_ George S. Patton in _Patton_ which earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor in this movie, and as Ebenezer Scrooge in the 1984 adaptation of _A Christmas Carol_ which is without a doubt one of the best Christmas Carol adaptations and my favorite George C Scott performances besides his role as McLeach in _Rescuers Down Under_
I highly recommend you watch the 1984 Christmas Carol if you have the chance.
Also like everyone else mentioned Wilbur the Albatross was voiced by John Candy a Canadian Actor and Comedian known for his roles in _Splash; Planes, Trains and Automobiles; Spaceballs_ and _Home Alone_ which funny enough, the latter film (Home Alone) came out the same month and day as _Rescuers Down Under_ and beat it at the box office. Finally, the reason Wilbur replaced his brother Orville in the sequel was because Jim Jordan (Orville’s voice actor) passed away in 1988.

  • @EChacon
    @EChacon Před 6 měsíci +14

_Rescuers Down Under_ was my introduction and familiarity of _The Rescuers_ and pretty much this sequel took this on a whole new level and made it more grand and adventurous than the first film.
The scenes with Cody and Marhute were incredible, Bernard and Miss Bianca’s relationship with the former trying to pop the question to Miss Bianca was well done, McLeach (voiced by the incredible George C. Scott) was such an incredible threatening villain even more threatening than Medusa and I also enjoyed the new side characters of Jake and Wilbur the latter voiced by John Candy were also fun to watch.
Apparently this movie was the first traditional animated Disney film to utilize the CAPS (Computer Animation Production System) system which would explain the massive leap from the Xerox style animation from the first film to the digital ink utilized in the sequel and why Bernard and Miss Bianca have more noticeable pupils and irises. The CAPS system used for digital ink and paint and compositing, allowed for more efficient and sophisticated post-production and Disney continued utilizing CAPS for the rest of the remaining Disney Renaissance films (e.g. _Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King)_ and Post-Renaissance films up until _Home on the Range_ in 2004.
Looking forward to your reaction to _DINOSAUR_ and while it’s hard to say which Disney film you’ll be doing next following _DINOSAUR_ if it’s classic Disney I recommend _The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Sword and the Stone, Pinocchio, Dumbo, Bambi_ and _Fantasia_ but if you’re doing a CG Disney animated films I recommend _Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt,_ and _Strange World_

Same, that’s the good thing with the White Noise Reacts channel and how they stand out from the other reaction channels cause literally James and Nobu react to every Disney animated film regardless of the time period and go on and talk about its animation, the voice acting and everything that made those films so good. Apparently they’re one of the few to go through some of the Classic Disney animated films released from _Snow White_ to the films released prior to Disney Renaissance (e.g. The Rescuers, Fox and the Hound, Black Cauldron).
Most of the other reactors who react to the Disney animated films usually just only react to the Renaissance films (e.g. _The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King_ etc) the Post-Renaissance films (e.g. _Emperor’s New Groove, Atlantis, Lilo & Stitch,_ etc.) and the Disney Revival era films (e.g. _Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Frozen, Zootopia, Encanto)_ because those are the films that everyone remembers and grew up with along with the fact they have more relevance in terms of Disney related reactions.

This movie was actually how I found out there were fireflies in Aus, I never knew we had any, but looked it up and yeah! Not in my region though, sadly.
Joanna is a goanna, a native Aussie monitor lizard, hence her name 😂. And I'm pretty sure Jake is a spinifex hopping mouse. The animal they were riding on at one point wasn't a flying squirrel (no squirrels in Aus) but actually a sugar glider, a gliding possum. They are too cute.
I think Marahute is based off of the extinct haast eagle, which lived in New Zealand. While huge they were definitely not as big as the eagle in this movie, but were the biggest eagle to ever exist and weighed 15 kilograms (33 pounds). For context the next-largest is the harpy eagle at 9 kg (20 lb).
Fun fact, the biggest extinct flying bird is Argentavis from South America, which had a 7m wingspan and weighed 80kgs. So, a little bit closer to Marahute's size!
One thing I never really understood in this movie was why name her Marahute, which sounds kind of native American. Wish they'd gone with something from one of the many Aussie indigenous languages.

There is a reason why this movie is considered not only to be the ONLY Disney sequel that is part of the main Disney canon...but it has the honor of being the second jewel in the Disney Renaissance. I would agree with you gentlemen that this is definitely a soft reboot. The first movie was good. It had a great villain, the girl was cute. This movie took those components and made it 10,000 times more epic. And even though Marahute can't speak, you can still CLEARLY understand her emotions....like how proud she is being a Mom.
They never actually SHOW US Cody being reunited with his Mom or the animals at McCleach's lair being freed. I like to think Cody and the mice went back to free the animals and then they all went home.

I was so excited when I saw you guys were reacting to The Rescuers Down Under. It’s criminally underrated and a prime example of what a sequel should be. It was the first Disney animated film to be completely created digitally. The animation is gorgeous, the soundtrack is fire (did you notice it wasn’t a musical…another rarity for Disney back then) the characters are so much fun and they perfectly captured that sense of danger and adventure. So well-done. It was released on November 16, 1990 (my 5th birthday) which ended up being a huge mistake. It just happened to be the same day a little film called Home Alone was released and blew up the box office. After Down Under underperformed, they pulled all of its advertising and it disappeared. Another fun fact: John Candy, who voiced Wilbur, was also in Home Alone so he had 2 major films competing against each other. 😂 This was also Eva Gabor’s (Bianca) last film before she passed. Bob Newhart (Bernard)…you guys may remember him from Elf. He was Papa Elf! Thank you so much for reacting to this! I love your channel!

From my knowledge it’s illegal to grab a lot of bird feathers like Blue Jays and Cardinals in a lot of states. It’s due to the fact the game wardens aren’t able to prove you didn’t get that feather from poachers who kill the birds just for their feathers to sell. There’s a TikToker called MamaTot who recently talked abt how when her son died she started collecting Blue Jay feathers and her fans heard and would send her some to make her smile and she brought it up again in another video about how she now had a box of them beside her bed, someone who didn’t like her called the game warden knowing it’s illegal to have them and while the warden knew she didn’t mean any harm she had to take those feathers from her sadly.

One of the few inherently good Disney sequels.
I always wanted there to be a crossover between The Rescuers and Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers. Had a whole idea for it, too. The Rangers go to tour the UN building and stumble across the defunct RAS HQ. They meet Bernard and Bianca's children, who maintain the place by themselves in honor of their parents. Then a message comes through and the Rangers insist on answering the call, even if the RAS is done. They end up in Africa trying to free children that are being used as slave labor in a blood diamond mine. Everything comes to a head when our heroes and a bunch of the kids are about to be taken out and the cavalry arrives in the form of a bunch of former RAS operatives and their offspring storming the mine led by the aging 'Mrs.' Bianca. The story ends with the RAS being reestablished and the Rescue Rangers being inducted as official members.
