I genuinely think the outsider c'tan is why the nids are how they are, and I'll say why:
As we know, gods are really just abstract concepts with faces and names, with the c'tan being no exception. During the climax of the war in heaven, as the c'tan ate each other, the laughing god managed to make the outsider go mad and eat several more of his others in an insane frenzy after already doing so before to protect himself.
So, he goes out into a dyson sphere and from his own conceptual thought process that is corrupted by madness, the tyranids came to be: they wanted to consume, consume and consume until there was nothing left and constantly shift and change their own bodies, *just like their maker.*

#HotTake As much as I like Konrad's prophecy visions story arc, I despise how easily he thought his visions wouldn't changed and can't be changed. Because he didn't try to at all despite regular humans and even gods like Khaine trying to stop prophecies they disliked. I would've liked if there was a vision he wanted to prevent on his homeworld that he failed to stop, making him think the visions were set in stone. It would've made his speal more dramatic too since we'd have direct evidence of how the future visions he has couldn't be stopped from happening.

    • @_NutcasE_
      @_NutcasE_ Před rokem +3

Well in his madness he actively refused to try, because he would have to accept that all his actions were of his own accord. Everything Konrad did he blamed on destiny and his alter ego Nighthaunter. He was actively trying to shift the blame to the point he would do more to make his visions happen than to prevent it. It wasnt that he didnt think he couldnt change it. It was him actively trying to avoid taking the blame for his folly.

But then why bother with certain interactions like the ones with sanguinius where there were implications of his prophecies not needing his input to happen? From a writing perspective I mean. It'd be way more dramatic if they outright proven to just happen even if he fought against them. It gives Konrad more flare and gives other characters he talks to about this food for thought and things to think on. Makes blaming the prophecies for his missdoings more legitimacy
From a writing perspective having such a moment in his life where he failed to stop one of his prophecies but he failed and decided to throw away any hope of stopping such negative prophecies would be better for his character and the story. Also if it turns out he's alive after him letting an assassin kill him it gives WAY more things to think and speculate on.

He just lies to himself and trys to convince sanguinius that its set in stone because the burden of him being able to change it is too horrifying for him to grasp. If things are going as the visions showed him, he takes it as vindication. Of its not going as he saw it he will make sure it will, because again breaking away from it he would have to come to terms that he could have broken away from his flaws any time he wanted, but he chose not to.

@@petra4385 From a writing perspective it depends entirely on what kind of character you're depicting and what you're trying to get across. To me at least it seems like you're upset they aren't displaying Konrad as sane and stable in his motivations rather than the in reality insane and unstable man he is they were trying to get across. The whole point is that he's willfully ignorant of and in active denial of the fact he has no big legitimate reason for thinking what he thinks beyond being a coward and refusal to acknowledge he chose this. From a writing perspective giving him a big loud moment where he tries and fails to avert a big prophecy would ruin his entire characterization and honestly make him so so painfully run of the mill.
Legit reread anything Curze related you've read because I guarantee you've missed the whole point of his existence. He's not there to be reasonable, he's not there to be misguided, he's not there to give other characters food for thought ffs, he's not there to have legitimate reasons, he's delusional, he's deranged, he's narcissistic, he's insane. It feels like you're giving writing advice for a character that...isn't Konrad. Same energy as someone reading a psychological horror book and at the end somehow having the take away of "well that wasn't a very good romantic comedy at all"

Least favorite Primarch? Personally it depends on the Era. Back in the day when The HH hadn't fleshed him out, I found Corax to be just this bland non-character who only existed to fill up the roster. But over time he's really grown into his own and the twist of "oh yeah he's totally embraced his existence as a Greater Daemon of Big E to hunt down his traitor brothers." Is an amazing characterization. But as Corax Grew its really seemed like The Lion has had all his interesting bits and bobs ripped from him. From this mysterious middle ground Primarch who didn't enter the Heresy out of pragmatism, not caring about alliance or goals, just about who was going to win. And only siding with Big E when it was clear he was to be the victor. And it being hinted that The Fallen and Luther were actually loyalists that were threatening to reveal The Lion's duplicity. Luther's claims that The Lion would forgive him having so much gravity. But now? The Lion is just another loyalist who always wanted to help The Emperor but wasn't able to. He's just another Russ, or Guilliman. But without the ability to claim he actually did something like Russ can with injuring Horus. Or like Guilliman can by uniting the scattered legions unable to break through the warpstorm blockade that could have left them easy pickings by the traitor forces. The modern Lion has nothing that makes him unique, nothing to let him stand out. His entire character has been stripped away until this point where he's just the generic loyalist Primarch. Barren of the individuality and character that once made him arguably the only Primarch who's actions and motivation had nothing to do with personal views, allegiances, or ideology, no grander goal or drive. Just pure pragmatism.
There's also Ferrus Manus but that's to easy a target due to Black Library treating him more like a living plot point than a character.

@@thechazz3230He did punctuate that line by apologising for a cheapshot then running the Night Haunter through so it kind of makes sense for him. He is probably one of the most absolute of the primarchs in that he barely compromises on his viewpoint even for brothers he is allied with (he technically didn't bomb McCragge. Technically). We also can't give Sanguinius all the good lines although the Khan and Dorn have also had a few during the action of the siege. If we're being technical for for his contributions to the heresy he took one of the traitors strongest fighters out of the war (Corvus and Russ were hesitant to fight him, if he made it to the siege he could have killed Dorn or the Khan). Otherwise he forced Horus to commit to his fight by destroying all the traitor homeworlds to cut off avenues of retreat/the flow of reinforcements. He also used his magic engine to get Corswain into position to keep the astronomican lit so Gulliman can actually find Terra through the ruinstorm. Short of waiting in ambush at the Eye of Terror and finishing off Abaddon/traitor primarchs or spending less time messing with the Night Haunter (which is his entire schtick to be fair) I don't know what he could have done better during the Heresy before his return to Caliban. If we're listing least favourite primarchs I might have to raise Fulgrim on account of being worse than useless to the traitor cause post Istvan.

    - I dislike Fulgrim and Emperors children even more after Amber King's "Lucius and Saul" video because the word perfection is repeated every 2 phrases 😅
    - Fulgrim and the Emperors Children were one of the best loyalists in the heresy:
they gave a net benefit to the imperium by backstabbing traitors (e.g. Perturabo) and getting distracted by the most useless things (invading worlds for the best mirrors, not sieging the Emperors Palace but rather hunting Terra's population
    - Leman: "storm seers" are just psychers with extra steps (Rick and Morty reference please ;) )
making Leman the biggest hypocrite and most unlikeable primarch.
    - In essence, almost all primarchs are like the child kings in ancient times: getting all the power and having none of the knowledge/wisdom to lead. They are big babies, children that grew up too quickly while having no-one to look up to or educate them w, because they surpassed everyone- already.

#HOTTAKE The Lion is one of, if not the most incompetent primark during and after the heresy. Consistently he lies for basically no reason other than to save face for his own selfish pride despite knowing it is tactically, morally and objectively the wrong thing to do in the moment. Perfect example, not only did he fall for Horus's plan and get tied up and distracted with the nightlords despite knowing he was being played. Not only did Konrad match him in combat, but the nightlords legion, despite being the TERROR legion against space marines who were much smaller than the dark angels. Still they managed to decimated the dark angels way more proportionally then themselves when the lion clearly knew better that he should have just cut his losses and headed back to Terra. When he finally captured Konrad and got him on his own flagship Konrad still managed to escape and evade him on his own ship. Then when he finally got to ultramar he lied to Guiliman and then proceeded to let Konrad escape on Guilimans home world and then lied about it again, when they could have got Konrad If you would have just told his brother and asked for assistance sweeping his ship with more manpower from the ultramarines. Then when Konrad is terrorizing Guilimans homeworld the lion has the audacity to demand nuking heavily populated areas to kill Konrad Knowing it probably won't work and would just lead to more death and suffering and would play into Konrad's plan and still gets mad and rage quits when his other two brothers thinks that's a dumb idea when it was his fault to begin with. Next he orbiterly bombards Guilimans homeworld and then lies to his face because he refuses to admit he was wrong but instead doubles down again. Then when Guiliman finds out and is rightfully angry the lion has the audacity to rage quit again like a petulant child when this entire ordeal was his fault to begin with. And finally when he fought Luther and LOST, mind you Luther is not an Astartes, HES A MORTAL when the Lions entire stick is supposed to be the bestest at fighting people! He then proceeds to cry himself to sleep for literally over 10,000 years when the rest of his loyalist brothers either disappeared for more legitimate reasons or just straight up died like Vulcan or Guiliman! I'll give The Lion simps one thing. Yeah the Lion has some cool moments but they're entirely eclipsed by his consistent stupidity and incompetent decisions not to mention he's entire personality is literally just "pompous douchebag" who swings sword good, something that all the primarks are good at the lion is not particularly special at anything!

Also, you left out the best part: after the Tyranids consume all other sources of biomass on a planet, they order their own forces to jump into the harvesting pools, including the genestealers, to harvest their biomass. Right before they fall into the acid, the hivemind releases its control over them, allowing them for a split second to realize that they've betrayed the Emperor, humanity, and everyone they've ever known and loved before dying.

#HotTake Least favorite Primarch... I mean its hard, cus all of them have something compelling about them! Even Konrad has a sense of tragedy, Lorgar is sympathetic and Ferrus I just kinda feel bad for the Iron Hands fans for... IS WHAT I WOULD BE SAYING IF RUSS DIDN'T EXIST! Every Primarch has some layer of complexity and depth to them, but not our wolf boy, lord of the space wolf wolf pack from mythical wolf planet! Dude's a one note joke about vikings combined with some Black Library writers secret wolf fursona notes and saddled with the important task of always making the WORST decision in every situation he was faced with!
Meeting the Emperor? I'm gonna punch him!
Meeting the Lion? I'm gonna punch him, then laugh at him instead of explaining that I didn't hate him!
Getting ordered to possibly wipe out the two lost chapters for Malcador? Sounds good!
Getting told my Horus that I should murder Magnus and the Thousand Sons even though Big E just told me to arrested him and they clearly are not firing at us so maybe we SHOULDN'T just default to ground invading Prospero? Ehhhhh nah, I'm a smash!
The defenders of Terra need my help and even Jaghatai is sitting still long enough to actually help? Nah, my wolf priests say the demons from my home planet who pretend to be big angry pups think I should go 1v1 Horus on Dust!
The Empire is falling apart and all my brothers are dropping like flies, either to enemies or vanishing in cool, heroic ways? Nah I think I'm just going to rip off Barbarosa and claim I'm going to come back before The Wolf Time (not Ragnarok because they already ripped the wolf from that off for the name of his planet) and till then ya'll can take care of things. (Which is DEFFO not already what Vulkan and the Lion already set themselves up to do, what Guilliman has actually done and what Jaghatai, Dorn and Corax are definitely going to end up doing already.) He's SO original!
And after ALL of that, the thing people ACTUALLY LIKE about the Space Pups is that they are up their with the Salamanders and to a lesser degree the Ultra Marines, Scars and Raven Guard as being genuinely good dudes by 40k standards at least... BUT THAT ONLY HAPPENED CUS LOGAN GRIMNAR WAS COOL! Russ was just a huge pr*ck, Woof Lord Logan Grimbark was the one who made the Space Vikings actually kinda cool guys who actually focused on NOT screwing everything they touched up and then laughing about it.
    Basically... F*** Russ!

Day in the life of a true slaanesh geezer, wake up and meet the wife slaanesh. My little princess, lucius, isnt she beautiful. Gonna take the laer blade to football, rev up the Pride of the Emperor, yeee! Quick stop at a pleasure planet and load up that plate. Get a pint. Grand, pitch looking lovely today lads. Just a bit of banter with Rylanor. Lucius makes a 38 - 38 loss better. Pop down local pride, good ol' eldar pie look at that! Slaanesh made dinner, lovely. Pop down have a couple pints with the noise marines, and finish up in the gardens of Callax.
In case it's not obvious, it's Fulgrim, that being said, I like all the primarchs so picking a least favorite is hard. Tho this is mostly bc I don't know a lot of his lore outside the super well known stuff and just the general slaanesh/emperors children stuff.

    Least favorite primarch is Mortarian
Let’s start with baby Morty. Mortarian starts his journey climbing up a poison mountain and failing to kill his mortal dad on top where his god dad said “we don’t have time for this” and then just killed mortal dad. Kinda dick move from God dad but Morty just never lets this go like yeah it sucks but YOU failed to kill him. And then this man has the Gaul to say call me The Reaper, like Mortimer you don’t reap sh*t. With people like Corax you can call him edgelord or emo but like he’s the King of the emo’s he is the galaxy rave DJ and the RavenGuard are on the floor dancing with the beat, but Mortarian? Nah his legion all thought he was some weirdo and would rather listen to Smelly Typhus so my guy wasn’t a respectable Primarch nor a respected leader. Then when the Heresy comes does he put his foot down and make a choice? Not really he kinda goes with Horus but he doesn’t really want to be with Horus so just wants to be a problem for everyone (and not even in the fun way like a certain undead god) then comes when he turns into a demon primarch now the guy who was praised as a man who could always endure breaks and instead of at least dying on his own terms would rather lose his soul to stinky devil god, and then his excuse was basically “but it hurt really really bad :(“. When the Chads Kahn and Robot “supreme eldar smasher” Guilliman hear of this they both call him a loser and tell him to cope, Seeth, and cry about it. Well his character is shit but maybe he is a really good fighter, eh he’s only ok but he acts like he is top tier. He ran from Khan then the Khan beat him in his demon form (to give him an inch of credit he did put up a good fight) but while the Khan was absolutely roasting him the entire time. Then he fights Guillymaster 9000 and actually wins but then is literally told not to do one thing by his Stinky god multiple times but he still does it and revives the emperor like a dumbass he is. At least he looks cool though I’ll give him that.

Overall disappointed on the tabletop that there weren't rules straight out of the codex (no homebrew) to make any army (that makes reasonable sense) a genestealer cult so you can't make freebooters orks that you can run with genestealers in the same army/detachment/however allies work between different armies now. Instead, you only favor is use thing mining related with a dash of mad science. the army has always related on stratagem gimmicks to get shit done that isn't spamming aberrants and rock grinders.
Also shame on taunting us with chaos-corrupted genestealers we'll never get to play without homebrew.

The Lion is the most boring primarch, he has zero personality despite being raised by a great orator in Luther and is supposed to be an unrivaled military genius but somehow can’t foresee how killing a bunch of civilians in ultramar won’t stay a secret forever, and how banishing all those who displease him in his legion and relegating them to training all future dark angels is a brain dead idea that lead to him and his legion almost being wiped out
