This channel is an attempt to chronicle my life and adventures since arriving in the Republic of the Philippines on November 26, 2013. What a beautiful home. Love the layout. The 220/110 outlets are genius. I blew out a few appliances my first couple of trips here. 😂 I'm just passing by on my 30 day visa less trips here but that house is amazing. If I could I would!

I'd be careful about spending large amounts of money on a house & land because of the law stating foreigners can not own land in the Phils, I know there are ways to get around that but still if things don't go as planned ( as we know happens often in the Philippines ) its could be an expensive lesson . Much better to rent....cheaper, more options, less up front money and if for some reason things go south you just up and leave.
yeah I was thinking the same, furthermore he say "he" is moving back to the states, not them as in a couple so who own the land, cos it is not the seller.
So the land may be on a lease, that is maybe 25 years coming to a close .. so many questions interested buyers need to ask :)
You're 100% correct. 2 things a FOREIGNER should NEVER do in the Philippines 1) start a business 2) build a house. Shouldn't need explaining.
@@thehammer3340 The most common reason foreigners get murdered in the Phils is over real estate and cheating on their wives. Good luck. I prefer to live in a lawful society and just visit if I want access to cheap women.
I agree, never buy something you can not own. Asian goverments overall are pretty racist to foreigners. They sure love taking the money, but do not want to give anything in return. It is smart, but it is still racism.

Wow, I'm still tripping about the electric charged steel grill walls. Lol! But a good peace of mind accessory to have. Nice house and lot though. So many accessories to ease life there. From the water tank and well, the internet antenna, the emergency generator, the solar power to run lights and the cctv, the thorny bushes, the safe, etc.
Yeah...makes one think, just how safe of an area is it? Do I really want too live there?

We searched for house and lot around Bacong area last year. Be careful which part of Bacong you want to buy or rent because the New Airport they plan to build is around Bacong area.
So what ? A new airport will drive the prices UP.
Most of the people said it might. But, if the property is close to the airport with all the noise of plane coming in, then most probably prices will go down.
Base on our experience, property we searched around Bacong area close to the planned the airport, property prices went down.

Ned, why do all the houses in the PI have bars on the windows/doors and are surrounded by walls topped with glass/barbed wire? Is crime that bad throughout most of the areas?

Curious Ned, how much did the house sell for? Just arrived with my wife and looking to possibly buy here in Bacong, Dauin, Valencia area. We are renting in Bacong/Valencia now a 2br for 15k and the lady wants to sell for 3.5 mil. Nice little 8 house subdivision.

Jeffrey White yeh. The best part of the house.
I like the open feel but doesn't seem practical allowing mosquitoes,bugs,snakes,rodents,etc. being able to come into your home and of course you cannot use Air Conditioning unless you lock yourself into a room. Getting custom made Sliding Doors to fit those non standard openings would be expensive but doable. Problem I see is that because of the large issue with poverty in many of the rural areas you can expect break ins on a regular basis. Thats why he built it like a fortress. I would imagine after awhile the feeling of being unsafe there would wear on most people. I better like James over at "My PI Dream" idea with "Villa Feliz" in a private gated community but of course at a higher cost but very nicely designed community with security guards, laws and rules to protect those residents and keep all the properties looking nice with no garbage and crazy karaoke music blasting away.

Any concerns about outdoor flying pests like mosquitoes becoming indoor pests ?
Absolutely flying, crawling and scampering pests are indoor pests...and the electrified fence doesn't keep the most dangerous pests from cutting though the roof or waiting in the shadows with a knife or gun for you to come home...because abject poverty is what makes security so high and cost of living so low....

nice cool provincial spread facing a mountain. does it have proper papers? a lot of the lots outside dumaguete are sold by relatives of girlfriends who really doesnt have an actual title but just a tax receipt. i have encountered some foreigners who got burned really bad.

Marc, I guess you missed the part of the video that shows his "pharmacy" on the shelf.. At some point in our lives we do have to acknowledge that our age will affect the lifestyle we chose to live... If we don't need help now, we will eventually.. Irregardless of the reason, we all would consider ourselves lucky to be able to move anywhere in the world and live our lives exactly as we would like.. Which it certainly appears he did.. It's a beautiful house, set up exactly the way he wanted it to be.. I do not possess the $$$ to purchase this home, but like most of the folks who were interested in watching , I sure wish I did..I is pretty fantastic...

The Filipino (citizen) wife (if he has one) probably owns the land. Non Filipino citizens can lease the land.

10 Million is a lot of money in Bacong especially since the house is not on the beach. Personally, I'd never buy any property in the Philippines until the Oligarchs allow foreign ownership of the land. Even with a land title nothing is guaranteed in a country ripe with corruption and a kangaroo court system.
There are plenty of horror stories of foreigners losing it all, better to rent....
You're a fool if you think Filipinos will allow foreigners to buy land. What is going to be left for the locals?

@@markg999 Just like everyone else, with a Filipina spouse or by paying a Filipino to use their name.
Regarding paying a Filipino to use their name, I heard stories that they will then have the Filipino's family member(s) work in China (as in OFW) and if the Filipino tries to take the property as their own, they keep the OFW in China as sort of like a "Hostage". Anyways, the Chinese are really good at finding and exploiting loopholes, so they could be using other methods unknown to us.
So even if an expat wanted to buy this, how could he? Also, are houses available for rent (not condos) with an in-ground pool?

I find it hard to understand why people want to live in a place where you have to have walls, electric fence, bars on windows,etc. Damn if I want to live like a prisoner in my own home.

His security measures are a personal touch. Dumaguete and surrounding areas are very safe for expats. We live in Siaton, about another 30 minutes drive from Bacong, and I feel its very safe and I have not felt the need for any bars on windows or electrified anything. The US and Australia for that matter feel way more unsafe in any of the major cities.
