- Motherhood In India: Being a mother often seems to be the inevitable and most desirable role a woman can have in India. The question is never if, but when and how many children a woman will have. But why is this considered the “natural” destiny and the one and only true fulfillment of a woman’s life? How can there be a choice for - or against - motherhood? And what are the challenges for those who do not want to have children? In this episode of Love Matters host Leeza Mangaldas and writer Dr. Amrita Nandy unpack this sensitive subject; looking at how society romanticizes motherhood, the obsession with having biological children as well as finding purpose and kinship beyond being a parent. Join them in their candid and insightful conversation.

Whether you have kids or don't, it should be a very conscious, deliberate, informed and well-planned decision, without pressure from others.
As a child free woman this was a wonderful thought provoking discussion. The funniest part about natalists who propagate the idea of having kids, cannot seem to behave decently towards me, a living, breathing human. How can they expect me to bring a child in the world where they will be as cruel to the child as they are to me? I’ve been subjected to generational trauma, have been shunned out of friend groups, dumped in relationships. Humans can be very cruel. People often say who will take care of you in your old age? I say to them what if your child is born disabled, what if they pass away before you do? what if they cut-off contact with you? then who is going to take care of them?
Say The people I pay for will take care of me in my old age.
Glad that the childfree lifestyle is spoken of which essentially is a choice, a choice to not have kids. With the growing acceptance, I can only hope that we witness the end of prejudice/stigma in this lifetime. All we want is acceptance
Everything should be done with true freewill not anything of ignorance
❤❤
Great 😃
nonsence
just because you are forced and unemployed to interfere in other's life, doesn't mean everyone else has same intention s. It's completely up to them what they want @@VSM101
Glad that this conversation is happening. As a child whose mother passed away a few months after my birth, growing up was difficult .Supermarkets were not there to buy essentials, buying undergarments was diff, No help during childbirth, cruel nasty indifferent narcissistic husband and his elder sister and in-laws and younger brothers , .... dealing with all this plus the usual chores of motherhood+ being an academically oriented achiever whose rosy dreams were shattered, multiple artistic talents gone to waste,... NO NEED for children... After all this"When did you do anything at all for me, my family and my constant stream of friends and relatives?' by the husband is all that remains today. SACRIFICE. Where has my life gone? Young girls, don't choose motherhood/marriage - only partners on an equal footing.
Sending you warm hugs, and hope you meet warmer people
Very informative. Can't wait to read the book. 😊
Motherhood is not important
It will take a vast heart to accept these bare truths. A panoramic and unimpeded vision of the universe, and our tiny little place in it, a vision unobstructed by inflated egos, and a vision empowered by immense love, is essential, to acknowledge these truths. Miles to go... We will all struggle to accept what they say, we will all feel the sting, because we all are actors, participants, one way or another, in this social setup they have described so well. But let us start facing it. So extremely well spoken by both speakers! Such calm, unhurried articulation! Thank you for the upload!
Dr. Amrita Nandy's book is a must-read... It is unique, extremely well researched and well written.
nonsence this wasnt based on any love but based on biological identy and to exert and accumulate power
I really want to be childfree but always fear of being alone at my old age mentally. What to do ?please please guide me.
what is the guarantee that if you have children, they will take care of you? i have seen many people living all alone despite having 3 or more children and even they get abandoned at their old by their OWN CHILDREN.
@@Akankhya_09 yes i know but i when i need mentally support as i am staying at outside but still talk to my pare everyday.I really dont want kids but akways have fear that soneone own should with us to mentally support you.But i really really dont want kids.
@@ppurabidash8659 no body will mentality support you once you cross a certain age , even if it's your house your children and their spouses will think they are the head of the family and you are just a burden once you become physically weak , after parents only if you choose a good person to marry you , will support you mentally and emotionally and financially... now a days many are choosing to marry but never have kids , so you can choose one of them to be with you when you grow
Your life, your choice. My opinions are mine, just as your opinions are yours. You don’t have to agree or follow mine, so don’t expect me to agree or follow yours. All of us will get judged for something. Learn to deal with it, it’s called adulting. People have experienced much worse criticisms. Grow up.
Stop judging and comparing situations. Don't say the Bad word called ' Grow up' you don't have any idea what situation everyone is going through
👍 Only The Truth (सत्य) is Rich and to be Considered. Rest all is the Thing. Appreciated 👏👏
True Liberation 👍
just sounds like communits propaganda fuling heathenism
Very cogent and informative. Expresses many of those strange fears that I couldn't speak
about in the past.
Very helpful talk
very much propaganda
@@VSM101 How is this proaganda or nonsense as you have commented earlier?
Human beings are extremely complex. To get married, to raise a child, topics which require a deep understanding of oneself first and to that end it requires knowing one's own emotional profile. This is not what majority of society does. Raising a child brings in an altogether different experience that is unmatched and it allows the parent to grow again together with the child. For me, personally is a wonderful experience with loads of moments to cherish.
In asian households where people have helpers mothehood not very exhausted.if its romatacued to marry in wedlock ,it beneficial for woman because that man is pressurised by society to take equall responsibility of child and also of wife .
Fatherhood is far difficult and demanding than motherhood
Always remember we are betting our civilization and entire humanity in long term 😢
this is all communist garbage
🤣🤣🤣🤣even if no one gives birth from today onwards it will take decades to bring down population to normal range
" betting humanity" seriously??
@@Akankhya_09 worldwide birth rates are dropping like crazy
Soon there would be a shortage of young people
And civilization would ultimately decline in a diaper

Host is very dusky but in thumbnail edited her photo to very fair skinned.woman empowerment not only to make decision of children ,but it also make woman comfortable in her looks
Atleast one child should be there
No. It's not your choice. Let people make their own choices.
@@LukasEddykeep your nonsense western ideology in your backyard.
Is there a law? If yes I would like to see it
utter nonsence
Why? What is your reasoning if you have any.
Ofcourse a man would say that 😂. Predictable
Exactly many nations are falling apart because of low birth rates including china . Look how western society has lost family values children with single dad or mom and government importing people from other countries but still can't completely assimilate and many more problems these narrative of remaining child less should be avoided rather the government can support the new parents in various ways.
@@serenawill128 Well yeah....but I am on the women's side here and there is nothing heroic about it
@@yashagar4443 how is it not ? It takes courage to be a childfree woman in this society
