- And now for something completely different. We have been wanting to check out Denver, so we made a roadtrip out of it -- from Phoenix, with Las Vegas and Moab along the way, and we went through Albuquerque and the Petrified Forest NP, on the way home. There's also a side trip to Golden, Colorado.
Of course, being devoted dog parents, not only did our dogs come along, but they went absolutely everywhere with us.

CREDITS
Shoutout to our friend Chrissy, for taking so many wonderful photos and video of us! And to Ames for filming a lot of the scenery on the road, since I was driving.
Good evening ladies, thank you for sharing your wonderful time ! Beautiful Family, lovely young ladies, Gunther & Holland seemed to enjoy it as well ! Safe journeys & keep smiling !
Thank you for joining and for the kind words!
Good thinking being prepared with the coffee. Hopefully, more places will be open to the fact that many more people travel with their pets these days and hopefully make better accommodations. Thank you for sharing the fam with us🌻
It seems like they're aware, but the consistency isn't there yet. The Cosmo was supposed to provide some doggie welcome bags, and The Radcliffe was supposed to provide Purple mattress dog beds. Neither did, but nor did they charge us the expected pet fees, so I consider it a wash.
@ShoestringMartha 🙌 good point, I will take no fees anyday! 😊
Looks like it was a very nice trip. I love how thoughtful you are about your dog's comfort. They look like very sweet babies. It's nice to see dogs that are so well taken care of.
They are very good boys and we're lucky to have them! :)
Thank you for sharing your travels! It looked like y’all had a great time and so did the dogs. Loved the scenery, the end pictures and where y’all stayed. This is a trip I’m planning ❤
What a fun trip! I just love Gunther and Holland... such sweet and good pups. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for joining!
What a great video! I love a road trip, difference being I use my tiny camper. It’s just where my camping buddy and I are comfortable. I enjoyed this so much.
That sounds like a really cozy and flexible setup 😍 Happy travels to the 2 of you!
What a fun road trip with the dogs!
Enjoyed your road trip! You’re very smart to go prepared with supplies to make coffee in the hotel room! I do the same.
Some people just don't understand how that first cup of coffee really does set the stage for the day. 😆
A good time was had by all! Even me, just watching.
Thank you for sharing. Lots of great tips for traveling with fur babies.
It looks like you guys had a fantastic vacation, and you visited some of my favorite areas.
This video is particularly timely for me. I've booked a one night camping stay at a State park for two weeks from now. It's a test run to see if my best friend, Thor, can be around other dogs and people other than myself. Wish us luck.
You got this! You and Thor are going to have a fantastic time. 👍🏼😁👍🏼
Thank you for sharing! Looks like a wonderful time…Glad y’all had a safe trip! 🚙 Gunther at the Cosmopolitan was awesome! 🐾❤
He was my lucky charm! I broke even, instead of losing it all, which is a win in my book 😂
❤❤❤ OMG I can only imagine Gunther giving the puppy some points 😂. Just relax and do what I do. If I don’t do it you don’t do it. Ok Ok 😂
LOL!! Being a Frenchie, Holland is BOSSY, even as a puppy. So it’s a bit of give and take, between grumpy grandpa and the sassy whippersnapper. 😂
Such an adventure and thanks for sharing the tips!!! Especially Denver and Albuquerque 🏞️
Thank you for sharing! I just adopted a puppy and am looking forward to lots of road-trips with her. This was very informative.
Congrats and happy travels with your new baby!
Thanks for sharing your family. I liked this vlog just as much as your solo camping format, keep up the blend, it's fantastic.
Thank you; definitely will do! 😁
Hey gals!
My wife and I use to travel with our dachshunds the way you show is this video and once they passed we recused two larger doggo’s that are thirty and 47 lbs so, the LANCE trailer has been our refuge for travels with our pups. We are in SWCO and love to travel this way and these areas that you 18:50 show here in this video. Thanks for sharing as it is fun watching others travels!
Thank you for watching! I can totally see why you would need to upgrade for those bigger nuggets -- nice choice 😊
Thanks!
Thank YOU!
I think the boys had an awesome time ❤
They sure did. They were totally pooped at the end of the day, every day 😁
They look like they are so chill together. Gunther really has a great life. I'm sure his previous owner and family would be so happy. And the new pup clearly is living the best life from start to finish. ❤
He's evidence that we all have the potential for a brand new chapter. We couldn't be happier with how he and Holland have bonded, and the vibe their little pack has. Holland's youthful energy has certainly had Benjamin Button-like reverse aging effect on Gunther 😆
Looks like a great trip. I travel with my dog and it can be difficult to navigate. Wouldn't have it any other way though.
Same. They’re worth it!
That coffee mood! Crazy they want you to go that far instead of offering in room. Vegas can be fun , but as you said it can also be a lot. Sounds like in general the coffee situation was not on point during the trip. I pass the Creamery every time I drive south to visit my mom in St George Utah and it’s always soooo busy. I’ve wanted to check it out but don’t want to do those crowds. Denver is a fun city! Isn’t it amazing how much stuff you have to pack for kids/pets. I had to laugh at the shot of the back of the 4Runner with ya’lls bags versus how much for the pups. That’s how I feel when I go with my two littles. Fun trip and great vid. 👍🏻
The artisan-handcrafted-single-source coffee bar downstairs in lieu of in-room coffee is trendy amongst boutique hotels, and I hate it. 😆 We definitely overpacked for the dogs. The only things that were key, beyond food and water, were the Dogger and the backpacks. Now we know.
What a great trip! My dog sounds just the same when he plays haha
That was their “inside voices”. It’s usually barky, in addition to all the heavy breathing 😂
@@ShoestringMartha Yes! Breed info says frenchies aren’t barky, but mine is! 🤦♀️😂
I stayed at that same hotel in ABQ while waiting out a blizzard in Colorado. I had my two dogs with me, both 60lbs. They offered to have security escort us across the street to the grassy area whenever I needed to take them out.
That’s awesome 🥰 We visited that grassy area a few times, during our short stay. 😊
I am with you on having to hike for my first cup
If it could just be poured directly in my mouth before I even get out of bed, that would be ideal.
Love watching Gunther's little tail go wild when he sees something. Looks like a great trip! $500 pet deposit!?!! Whoa, you're not moving in! Wowzers. Interesting to see those stats, as I so often just find a place to sleep in the car or tent with my two because I assume most places won't allow them, or will have a size limit. Some even have a breed ban (the whole city of Denver would not let us in, lol, among others). Love the photos at the end! Thanks for sharing!
I felt like there was "something for everyone". Historical ruins for me, and lizards for Gunther. 😂
LOL yeah, the deposits were... "varied". They are just temporary holds on your credit card, and then they drop off if you don't wreck the room. I was pleasantly surprised by how infrequently we were actually charged pet fees.
When we were researching hotels, we did see a few restrictions that kept us away, like only 1 pet allowed, or utterly ridiculous pet fees (like $100/night/per pet 😲). Thankfully, the boys are small. When we had our English bulldog, the weight limit was a bummer. Totally silly, because he was more well-behaved than most humans.
Shocking that for such as dog-friendly as Denver is, they have breed restrictions (which are dumb.)
@@ShoestringMartha Yeah, the deposit makes more sense to me than a $100 per night per pet fee, particularly if you have well-behaved dogs. When I did the Las Cruces arts festival this year, I paid $25 per dog per night, which would've been completely fine if the hotel stay in general had been a better experience. As you say, the dogs were more well-behaved than most humans that were staying in that hotel while we were there. Apparently it was Spring Break weekend. 🤪
@@ShoestringMartha And I 100% agree that BSL is dumb. I rescued Japhy from a shelter located within a BSL area. I asked one of the volunteers how they even find homes for those dogs, and she said they rely on out-of-staters to come in and adopt them. Pretty much sealed the deal for me adopting Japhy. No way was I going to leave him there. 😥 I wish I could save them all.
That's just awful. Bless you for saving him 😔
When you were at Dinasour Ridge, you were just a few miles from my house! When you were at Genesee Park, you were within walking distance to my Church!!
Wild!! We were cruising all around your hood 😂
@@ShoestringMartha , YES YOU WERE!!!!
@@ShoestringMartha I was the Lady in the silver 2018 Toyota 4Runner SR5. My son has a white 2017 TRD PRO. I wish mine was a TRD PRO! Did you see us?🤣
lol probably did!
Man! You guys like to eat!😂 Great looking couple!
Take out, wine and Yellowstone... can't beat it!
You're not wrong - we do love our cuisine! 😂 This time, we learned out lesson, and picked up a bottle of fine local wine in Palisade, Colorado before crossing into Utah. 😉 The restaurant downstairs doesn't serve dinner anymore, so we got a rotisserie chicken, potato salad, and a slice of cake from the grocery store next door - super tasty and way cheaper.
Do one of these again!
LOL we'll have to save up again!
Another Vegas tip is going west out to Red Rock Canyon, gorgeous area to drive through, hike, and visit the visitor center.
Next time!
Every time I go to Vegas I always go to the pastry shop at the Bellagio - cannot recommend enough. Not sure about their dog policy though.
Yum! I was surprised by how not dog-friendly Vegas was. I guess dog fams are just not their target audience.
Did you like The Cosmopolitan? They got some negative reviews for racially profiling so we never go there when in Vegas but I know a lot of people love it. Glad to hear that they are Dog Friendly. In ABQ, we went to that restaurant in Hotel Andaluz one Thanksgiving. It was so much fun. I didn't know they were Dog Friendly, good to know. Our favorite brewery is in ABQ, Bow n Arrow. It's Native American and LGBQT owned. We love it. Also, if you are doing a Stay Cation, I can't recommend Hotel Valley Ho enough! Dog Friendly and LGBQT welcomed as well. Lots of grassy areas for out pups. Looks like a great VACAY!
I did like the Cosmopolitan. The guests *seemed* fairly diverse, but cannot speak to what their experience was like. Incredibly disappointing to hear that it has been negative for so many. 😒 We always seem to be just passing through ABQ, and not spending any time there. If we do, definitely will check out Bow n Arrow. LOVE the Valley Ho! I've stayed there a couple of times, but it was never when I had a dog. I had no idea they are dog-friendly!
@@beverly9 It's desirable to me and may be desirable to Shoestring Martha as well.
Why, does this bother you?
Ah, did you at least swing through Garden of the Gods on your way through Colorado Springs!?!? It is gorgeous!
I remember seeing the sign for it! There was not nearly enough time to explore. 😕 We have return trips planned, however 😉
@@ShoestringMartha Oh I know what you mean, SO much to see and not enough time. Your videos are REALLY stirring up my wanderlust!
Have you tried coldbrew? It really does seem sweeter than hot. My partner can drink coldbrew "black". We have been making coldbrew at home all summer and it has been wonderful.
I love cold brew! It’s typically my afternoon coffee. But for me, that first cup just has to be hot. 🤷
@@ShoestringMartha Haha, I have created a monster for myself that I will regret in the winter. I get up, stumble to the fridge pour out some coldbrew and slowly awaken. When I have to do a pour over this winter, I am not going to like it.
Such impatience, I know!
The whole trip looked great except LAS VEGAS! Not my cup of tea 😄
It's something I like to do, oh, every 3 years or so -- for one night. We both agreed that next time, we would just stay within the Cosmopolitan. It had the nicest casino, the largest and most accessible dog relief area, and good food selection. We only ran into difficulties when we tried to change venues -- and that is by design, on the part of the casinos. They don't want you to leave, so they built an infrastructure that makes it difficult.
Rule #1. Never, ever go to Las Vegas anywhere near summer time. The heat for dogs is terrible.
True story. It was March and already pretty warm.
