    The baseball HOF obsession with numbers is absurd, I'm no Sox fan but Big Papi is the iconic Red Sox player of my lifetime, and you cannot tell history of baseball without mentioning his name, so yes a HOFer.

All those testings during that time were under immense scrutinyand the MLB themselves said that they have no clue if all the people on that list even tested positive for roids. Not to mention HE NEVER TESTED POSITIVE AGAIN. And that testing survey was done before even played his first game with the sox. So stop it

      2003 list was for survey purposes and is unclear at best what substance was used and whether it was banned in 2003. You cannot possibly compare that to Bonds and Clemens that actually failed tests.

      @@plbeckman You are correct. I misspoke but the evidence on both Bonds and Clemens are staggering. For example, do you really think Clemens trainer was injecting his wife with steroids and not him as Roger claimed? The cloud of suspicion surrounding Bonds and Clemens are justified. The only thing on Papi is the 2003 list which both the commissioner and union agree should not be held against him. But you will believe what you want to believe.

      @@thepaulusmaximus well put. Very well put. 100 percent correct. Ortiz was let in. Just my opinion, but you should let in: curt schilling, bonds, Roger Clemens, arod first ballot, Scott rolen should be in and let my favorite player in: Pete rose. The hit king.

    An iconic player who is liked by the fans and media (not just Boston media and fans) so I think his popularity will get him in. However, he was linked to roids in the past and while he may not have tested positive at all since that initial report. If he gets in then it should open the door for others.

      Disagree. I think Ortiz is a special case that can be bypassed. He spoke to the media and denied ever using it and he never once tested positive after that. Other players that were caught in PED scandals were way more controversial than him (i.e. A-Rod, Bonds, etc.)

    im not a fan of david ortize nor a fan of the red sox but if harold baines is a hof, then this guy is definitely a hof dh or not. it is very easy to decide a hof or not because there is no debate. 100% of fans with a brain will say david ortiz is a hof.

    If Ortiz gets in and A-Rod doesn’t you’ll see the clear media bias. They were on the SAME test in 2003. Ortiz def roided and so did Rodriguez. If you’re gonna make an exception for one then you have to include the other. Of course that won’t happen tho.

      True but if they were to do a but they won't a public vote who is more beloved because most media love the guy, has charisma for days, Big Papi would win by a landslide and tbh I don't think even most hardcore Yankee fans probably won't vote for A-Rod even if he did helped bring a title. I still don't get why they haven't told what he tested positive for or why he failed, we know about everyone else except Papi, what are they hiding 19 years later? Give the man some closure at least 🤷🏿‍♂️

      Besides been on the 2003 list ( which includes non banned substance like they said on the video)A-rod tested positive two more times and got suspended Ortiz never tested positive. So do your homework

His name was leaked on the same list as Ortiz and his name was found on the biogenesis log and started that whole scandal. Never once did he fail a test. Everyone hates A-Rod but if you vote for Ortiz and not A-Rod you’re a hypocrite. Ortiz never even gave an excuse to why he tested positive. He just says idk I never did anything. Sounds like playing dumb to me

      @@jsoto8229 lol Arod never tested positive but he admitted peds usage for the amount of proves and witnesses resulting in a 162 games suspension besides doing it after it was prohibited on MLB (after the 2004 season) bottom line both were great players but on peds they are not on the same boat.

    Ozzie Smith is in Hall of Fame. 28 homeruns in 19 years! Yes 28 in 19 years. 260 average. 4 years he had 0 hrs. Yes 0 and he is in Hall of Fame because of his defense Fred McGriff 490 hrs not in! This what the hall of Fame is.

    love Ortiz. i was a huge Sox fan from the time Johnny Damon joined until Pedroia retired. that group was so amazing to watch. but to elect this *proven* PEDs user, while denying the other PEDs users, the MLB HOF voting process lost all credibility. all of it. you either take PEDs completely out of the equation when voting, and elect all suspected users in, or you elect none of them.

    Not a Sox fan but I want to believe Ortiz, oh how I want to believe Ortiz but so many big names have insisted for years that “I never took PED’s” and then we find out different. There’s no sense in going over the names but we’ve seen it before. Mediocre athlete suddenly becomes Superman or Superwoman seemingly overnight.

    Designated hitters do not belong in the Hall of Fame. You have to get a glove and play defense, play the entire game. They're designated hitters because they are defensive liabilities.

    Absolutely not a 1st ballot HOF. Not really an HOF at all. He was detrimental when he played the field. That means he cost more runs with his glove than he provided with his bat. His average isn't great. He doesn't have 3k hits despite his ONLY job being hitting. He has the lowest WAR of all 1st ballot-ers of all time. If the post season is the only thing that he's inducted for, Andruw Jones would be a 1st ballot HOF. And on top of all of that, he was busted for PEDs. He's no different than Barry Bonds except Bonds was twice as good of a player. For someone who was a DH to be in the HOF they need 3,000 hits, a .300 average and 1800 RBI. Ortiz has none of that. I would even argue that a DH needs 500+ homers, the only thing that Ortiz did have.

      Good points but missed somethings that allow him in aka eye test and value to his team and culture as for postseason it’s on if he had a good amount of effect winning multiple WS and coming back 0-3 he might not have alotta hits but HRs he’s got a good amount which got him in his public image still good bonds and others should be in tho
