About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

I have to wonder what the devs thought process was with the swoop challenges. They don’t seem like the most compelling of races.
It's supposed to be like a land and then take off type thing which is cool from space, the whole swoop thing was just people trying to be faster
Yeah the swoop is just a strategy but they designed them as a land and take off.
It's much more fun if you do it the way they intended, even if it isn't the fastest way
@@TinaGloria2012 I get that, it just seems like an odd choice to design a race that is most enjoyable if you stop moving halfway through. Stopping moving. In a race.
@@Daedalus-Inc yeah they wanted to try to make it a more even playing field type thing. They also though wanted to see how people would problem solve the course.
The insane path this one has just gives the vibes of

@@circuitgamer7759 I think so, yeah
I like how in bionic league there are 4 places wich also have a huge spread and the last place spend almost 15 minutes trying to get a time.
The multiple runs simultaneously on the screen is great.
I mean at least one of the reason there were so many more people in the initial league... was since it is the league of the prebuild, so anyone who don't care for their spot, but just want the reward for completing are just gonna grab the prebuild and run with it, thus inflating the headcount in that league massively
Bro stop calling me out 😅
Video Idea: How many magnets do you need to break the soundbarrier. -> Build a launching system using magnets/teactor beams which launches you through the soundbarrier.
Already been done mate
@@Bitori6 Yet he is also retrying to do it with the better aerodynamics and other new factors, so a revisit could be nice
@@Bitori6 I see, thx, I guess :)
Scrap should really try Space Engineers. Considering how much he’s been enjoying space in TM, I think it would be really interesting for him to play it, but it is up to the views if he continues to play it ig.
I'd love it if he did!
Agreed. Would enjoy seeing a survival series of Space Engineers with some mods
would be nice if they mixed it up abit and had like a circuit race in space or somthing
The reason for the many inconsistencies in the physics is because Trailmakers is made in unity which is non-deterministic and so even with the exact same inputs at the start the ending can change a lot. Also the reason that going really fast makes you clip through the ground is that at speeds like that the movement happens in larger separate jumps to keep up and so the vehicle essentially teleports past the collider for the ground. Probably.
what, it is made in unity..... wow
it doesn't have to be random to be chaotic, for example polybridge had issues with chaotic physics where even though the *exact* same conditions would end up with the same result every time, any *slight* changes would have drastic effects on the result.
I feel like the glitching through the ground definitely has to do with it either not recognizing you're in the atmosphere fast enough (delayed sound barrier breaking) or when you break the sound barrier, it somehow kinda animation locks you to where you have a brief moment of invincibility essentially. Reasoning behind the first being they may have planets only have collision when you are in their atmosphere so if you're traveling super fast out in space and accidentally graze by one you're not as likely to instantly get disintegrated. No clue, just theory crafting.
Nah, it's a common problem with game engines. Usually only the surface of objects is solid, and only your position at each frame is checked for collisions. I.e. the game doesn't check if the line from the position in one frame to the position in the next frame is actually clear.
(And then only if it detects in this way that you _would_ penetrate the ground or some other surface, does it do the actual work figuring out _what_ happens: if you are going to bounce off, slide along it, or shatter parts on impact.)
@Pystro true, it just works everywhere else from my understanding and this is more of an exception, which is why I would assume it's more of an overridden trigger as opposed to a game engine issue. Idk though, could be!
@@pipin7457 Anywhere else except for this map you go at most the speed of sound, or a bit over.
13:26 Oops! Editor pulled out the wrong sheet!
Oh shoot, sorry! Good eye!
"I refuse to glitch".
Proceeds to fly through the ground like it's not a glitch. 😆
More so he refuses to make a glitch on his vehicle
Like he said, glitching refers to him having the choice to avoid it. Going through the ground however, is not a choice, as he just pulls up too late, and should in theory make his vehicle destroy itself, but it doesn't.
"I refuse to glitch (intentionally)."
"its a feature"

Great video!
The whole 'swoop' concept is fun to watch but after three races in a row it starts to gets a little repetitive. Wouldn't a high speed, more 'traditional' race through space be fun too?
The intended trick for the race is landing and taking off but swooping is way faster, even still doing it the intended way would be repetitive at this point
Yeah i agree. It would be pre fun to have a massive race that stretches across space. Like a drag race in space.
8:09 The last sub/boat race he did: am I a joke to you?
You timestamped that a couple seconds too late

I absolutely LOVE this video, my favorite of the racing series so far! It was really cool watching you stick with the race for so long and come so close to first place!
I appreciate that scrapman always does what he can for his viewers
It's nice to see Scrapman respecting bedtime. He is a very responsible gamer....
I think I know what’s happening when you go through the terrain, since I have some experience with Unity (the game engine that Trailmakers uses).
Unity has a few different collision settings, but the default (and least resource intensive) pretty much detects if the object is colliding or not with something once every frame, and since the vehicle is going so fast, it’s not colliding with the thin terrain on a frame. One frame it’s above the terrain, and the next frame it’s under the terrain.
There is another setting for the collision detection that would fix it by “drawing” an invisible line from the object’s position in the previous frame to the position in the current frame to detect if it collided with something in between frames, but that would be really resource intensive for creations in Trailmakers, since there’s a lot of parts that could collide, thus a lot of invisible lines and calculations would slow down the game.
That’s what I understand at least with my Unity knowledge.
You definitely deserve more recognition for this!
The olympics are starting later this month so can we have another Explosive Olympics
I love your videos scrap and I always watch every video u make when u make then so keep up the hard work
i love these videos, i got trailmkers after i watched some of your videos
nice
Hi Scrapman. I’m the mechanic, and I used to be in 3rd until someone took it off me: :)
Hat tip to you and your editor! Bravo for sticking with it, and I love the split screen for showing all the attempts!
Put your seat in the back so that you can swoop earlier
We need re-entry physics and heatshields to make challenges like this interesting. Be alot more fun if you had to prevent burning up
Race devs try not to make the same race challenge (impossible)
There is much they could be doing with space races and all they can think of is "taxi to an atmosphere, hit the bottom, go straight up"?
i like how the wings somehow still work in space
Genuinely the definition of insanity. I've been going through race island attempting to get the highest placement, but getting to first place feels like just hoping for the luckiest run ever. You need extreme speed, especially to keep up with the people that glitched their build, but you also need to have insane manuverability to handle the speed. Most of the time spent is just resetting after running into walls, falling apart from clipping the ground weird, and having to find things you can sacrifice to keep up with people using no drag glitches and locked parts.
😮 Scrap Man you should pay your editor more for that one. Drum solo. 🖖👌 22:02
25:19 So satisfying holy
the neeeeeeeeeeaaawnnnnnn was nice😂😂
Has everyone forgot about the quantum rudder? Get low before hitting the atmosphere and then use the angle to carry momentum
bro is entering the atmosphere while going as fast as a blackbird and wondering why he's having issues
Hi @ScrapMan if you see this, i believe the area counts if a power core item hits it. I remember watching the first video and realizing this when you made the area count using the power cables, since they cost power cores.
Though I don't own this game so I cannot test this!
I think a portion of your control difficulty comes from having placed the rear vertical stabiliser in line with your vehicle. You focus on the tail vertical wing as a stabiliser for the flat plane rudder axis, but, it also stabilises the roll axis... But only does it well when it has enough leverage by being off centre.
I'd love to see some more max complexity battles.
1: sub battle
2: Hover craft Battle
3: spaceship dogfight
4: land vehicle battle
5: beyblade evolution 50%, 75%, max complexity
Wow, I didn't even know the modular wings could glitch apart like that, lol. My build for this race only used 4 small tailfins (unpowered) for stabilization with gyros for pitch/roll and it's basically smooth entry as long as I'm flying mostly straight when I hit the atmosphere, no wacky physics whatsoever (not quite as fast as podium, but fast enough for around 24th place)
Your variance on entry comes from your maneuvering. Even just using pitch, space has no counter forces to slow you down, so actually what happens is you're using your vehicle's velocity to change your course - but without doing something like counter-burning just means that you're maneuvering less accurately.
For example, if you pitch up then down, your upwards momentum remains to an extent and carries you in that direction. If you were perfectly going in the opposite direction, then you would actually briefly stop moving before continuing onwards, but that's not the case.
These challenges should've been coded in a way where you trigger the ground checkpoint only when you're at a full stop.
But yeah, you really should put your seat at the back for the scoop.
How about this challenge in Trailmakers: Build a vehicle with two separate driver seats that can only be controlled by one player. Both players must work together to navigate the vehicle through a series of obstacles and reach the finish line as fast as possible. The catch is, each player can only see half of the controls, so communication and teamwork are key to success. Good luck! I was also wondering if I could be on one of you videos because I have a CZcams channel but I don’t know where to start. If I could be in one of your Trailmaker videos that would be awesome so if you do ever choose this or even see could I PLEASE play with you. Just please give me about a week in advance so I can practice my building and driving.
I would love to see scrapman do a glitch race
I love scrap man but these races are mainly who can glitch/cheat the most lol
What about a "Transport Vehicle Evolution Race"
Rules:
1. You start of with 26 power core but you gain 8 with each evolution
2. Winner becomes the prime vehicle to modify and enhance
3. You are allowed to destroy parts and modify but not allowed to destroy the whole transport vehicle
4. Winner is determined by who can bring two metal containers from point A to point B the quickest
5. Contestants must go one at a time as per safety reasons (Crashing basically)
I'm super dissapointed in the space races, the opportunity to do something really cool with each planet was there but they where like nah, same thing every time
Day 3: Idea for Trailmakers cooperation challenge: two teams of two people each, you build a vehicle for both teams to use. One person from a team controls one half of the vehicle, and the other person controls the other half. Both people have to be pressing the shoot button to shoot. You make truly amazing content ScrapMan! Please keep your channel alive.🥺
You are going to get 1M suscriber this year
Like the 10th time i just hve to giv props to te edior.... When scrap anounced an editor i was upset, and at the beginning i was still upset becuase it felt very copy paste. But this editor has earned his place and more.
Waiting for him to realize that the math isn't mathing and he has to be number 1 to get top 1% in jet league
Honestly, with all these races they're doing, the devs should really take the time to improve the leaderboard system (make it a menu preferrably)
scrapman should use multiple rotating serves since they provide countertorque, which would produce the same effect of a gyro without the extra powercore
You did good!
your aircraft gave me an idea cluster missile truck battle
I feel like a drop pod would be cool for the swoop, if it could accelerate instantly back
the g force on the impact of air 💀💀💀
What about Spleef… but the floor is slippery ice? Like the explosive bumper car video from 4 years ago?
I think the randomness is the side to side wiggle that was noticed. I wonder if that's intentional on the Devs to prevent people from TA macro winning and actually need a lil skill or luck to get the highest... or if it's just something weird with the builds.
i think you have to enter the atmosphere as low as possible so you go horizontally towards the landing area. then you have to hit the target and swoop up.
is that not what he’s doing?
make a toggle for space and atmospheric control so that both environments you have good control dont know how difficult it would be but if you can then try it :)
you might never see this comment:(
Scrapman took an entire video to break the sound barrier in the space map using a planet
Also scrapman
Just refreshing for 5 minutes straight to watch scrapman
Another great video, but please don't feel like you have to grind top 1%, especially on these newer races! It's just fun seeing you learn and improve, I don't want to see you burn out from trying to hit some arbitrary goal!
Damn this is the earliest I've caught ur video!
He basically upload everyday at 13 o'clock (UTC), so if you try, you can get it sub 5sec

Man that build scrapman used at the start wasnt the best designed ship ive ever seen. Its 0 to 60 time was if you're lucky
I get the worst time so I can see how many people play these races. ^^
hey scrap i had an idea where you have a fighter jet and a human guided missle as if it a lock on missle kinda thing
You should do 1 Overpowered Helicopter Vs 2 Quad-Copters
i think num1 is tool assisted?
like it's actually just a TAS

honey are you coming to bed?
coming honey.
just gotta get 1st place

i hope that not all of the races are the same concept
dont think we didnt hear that little screenshot scrapman
I think you weren't lined up because of the servo motor, maybe it pushes you around randomly

It look like one of the guys are racing against didn’t even go through the checkpoint
101 means error which the build really had :O
Flashbulb try and make an original race challenge (physically impossible)
Try flying closer to the 3 arrows and come in from the horizion
I wonder, what if your seat was at the back.
Anyone that uses glitches in their craft should immediately be deleted from the board
I am so sick of these space races just being "start in space, go straight to a checkpoint really really close to the ground, go straight up" ngl
I once again ask you to build Mil Mi-32 tri propeller helicopter
Scrapman put a break away wheel under your seat so you can come in touch the ground have the wheel break and then you keep going to the finish line. 14:16
Like, the wheel for triggering or to detect the ground? The red colored checkpoint requires that the seat block touch it rather than a part of the rest of the craft
@@tylerphuoc2653 I was testing and if the wheel is close enough to the seat it worked when I did a touch and go.
@@Carson-e5w Are you sure it wasn't just generosity on the seat block/player character detection?
@@tylerphuoc2653 it might have it might not have. But it worked more than once.
Could You maybe go back to the km/h? Love Your content
Try to see what happens when you reach lightspeed.
can you use sensor to pitch up, you could aim to hit land and sensor to react land.. probably could make vehicle that react faster than you can on that land target..
that would be worse as the altitude at which you need to swoop is inconsistent
