I have the '24 GMC 3500 and just towed my new 14k lb 5th wheel for a week...let's just say the engine exhaust work really freaking good when it kicks in! Like seriously good! GMC seems to let the transmission do it's work to slow you first before it lets the engine exhaust take over. It slowed me in the Arkansas Ozarks from 75 to 65 on a steep downhill in only a few seconds, but only after I had tapped the brakes to get it to kick in.
As for the turbo lag, I feel it too, but I've already learned to rev the engine a little before I need to gun it into traffic quickly. You test the 0 to 60 again, but with the revs higher when you launch!
I do miss the seats in my '20 Ram 1500 tho. Wife hates the GMC seats on long trips already. 😅

After owning a 2022 ram 3500 and now the Duramax 3500 both long bed, the ram have that long lag were the Duramax not as much. I like the way the cummins sound but the Duramax I'm getting use to the sound, the seat in the Ram is more comfortable than the Duramax which I am adopting.
The fuel mileage in the Ram I was getting on the highway about 21-22 with the cruise control on buy with the new Duramax I'm still testing. I have a long trip coming up with the new Duramax next week that I will be checking it out buy with the Ram I tow a 5th wheel cross country and man I love it. The 5th wheel I have now which I haven't weight it yet buy I would guess it's about 14k-15k lbs, I will check to see how the Duramax do but I don't see any issues. Awesome video JD.

Are you talking about hauling or towing? Towing wise that's nothing but if you're referring to hauling as in putting it in your bed that's beyond idiotic. It's max hauling capacity is 1,820 it's. You nearly doubling that can cause damage to your bed, power powertrain and make you a hazard to people around you.

I have owned a 2016 3500 HO Cummins and now I own a 22 3500 Duramax. The Duramax greatly benefits from a little brake torquing before launch. There is no torque management like the Ram. I timed both in stock form with some brake torquing. At 6400 feet above sea level (where we live) the Duramax was a full second faster 0-60 7.7 seconds. Now, my Cummins was tuned. When I cranked up the Cummins to level 6 with some brake torquing it hit 60mph in 5.9 seconds with a whole heapin’ of black smoke.

@@neilenglot3039 I haven't noticed any lag in the 22 23s. In 24 they made changes to the turbo, and its controller as well as some injector and piston changes. The new electronic turbo controller is suppose to be much quicker so I expected no lag at all, but was disappointed when I dove it. I dont think its any of these changes that are causing the lag, I think it's the ECM programming that's trying to eliminate low RPM soot before the turbo spools up that would cause the DPF to regen more often.

Jeez, guys, on GM trucks press and hold the Traction Control switch - HOLD it in until you see both Traction Control AND Stabillitrak turn off (you'll see yellow icons in the gauge display). Put the truck in Tow/Haul mode (this increases the line pressure on the clutches in the tranny and will help prevent slippage and limp-mode). Put the truck in 4WD HI, step on the brake with your left foot, press on the gas pedal and bring it up to about 1,500 rpm for a couple seconds. This will allow the turbo to spool, and then go to the floor with the gas pedal while at the same time coming off the brake - and HOLD ON. You aren't gonna believe what these trucks will feel like coming off the line with a 4WD boosted launch.

I’ve owned a 2017 Laramie, and now a 2020 Limited Cummins and routinely pull a 10k car hauler. I do find all the hand wringing about tow rating to be a little silly as very few will tow more than about 12-13k. But the brands don’t have much else for bragging rights. It is disappointing that Ram is so slow in updating, but their interior from the 19 refresh was so far ahead of the rest as to not heed it. I am looking to upgrade and my towing needs are reduced a bit now so I am looking to move to a gas option but still an HD truck. I am looking at Ford to see if the interior upgrades are enough to get me to buy my first Ford in 40 years. We’ll see.

      1. They have less HP than the other two.
      2. They're ridiculously slow.
      3. They make the most tiniest cab in the segment making it uncomfortable for the rear passengers.

If the 3500 single axle 425hp/1000ft. Then I would go for the Ram all the way home! But thank God for my 2004.5 H.O Cummins 525hp Modified. With highly modified 48RE! I'm Old School. I'm good! I'm getting rid of the RAM and getting the 2023 Chevy 2500 night edition,Duramax with the 22 inch wheels I know. I'm gonna lose money on that ram. Forget all those mpg numbers.. when you drive big rig and work on them for over 35 years we never ever tried to use mpg as an indicator. Diesel motors are based iron efficiency.. most guys like cat cummins Detroit all have numbers we look at and that is lbs of fuel burn per torque and hp... just like my 5.9 99 ram was getting 21 plus on highway.. my 2012 6.7 gets maybe 15 on highway.. but again you look at hp n tq between the 2 motors it will always require more fuel burn just because of increase in hp n tq... its really not about miles over speed like a gas... the prob is the big three just want to show off speed performance and how fast it can tow off the line... I'm mean really. I have a mack a freightliner and they range between 425hp to 500 on freightliner... believe it out not I dont care about 0 to 60. Every tractor will move 70k plus... and get itnto highway speed within a mile or so.. .its all about longhaul and minimal repairs for at least half a million miles....

Define work??? Pulling trailers isn’t the only job in the world. The majority Of the businesses in this country who need a work truck only need a 2500. Plumbers. Carpenters. Welders electricians. People who use little trucks to pull trailers for work are a very little piece of the pie compared to the others I just mentioned.

    • @MonsterTruckingCo.
      @MonsterTruckingCo. Před rokem +2

@@Bostonharborwater what I classify as work is when the power house (truck) is primarily used to operate business. Since 2500 are small trucks and I have no use for them, I typically overlook them. Daily towing and hauling primarily is what I consider a working to truck to be and able to do. What you described is low weight businesses. These trucks for them, are more of an office than a working truck.
GMC make great non daily trailering trucks as the can’t handle the stresses day in and out. This is why rams inline 6 is primarily used for hotshot and transport. People do use the ford 6.7, but rarely does anyone hotshot with a GMC. There are a few people, maybe a handful on CZcams, but the rest is RAM.

The only reason RAM is using Cummins is because Stellantis cannot make good Diesel engines, the ecoboost died because emissions and it was pretty bad engine. It’s a regulation game Ram is playing. By keeping the GVWR at 10,000 it lets contractors get a heavy 15k trailer and stay under DOT/CDL requirements. Ford actually sells a 10,000 GVWR package that lowers their trucks payload- it’s the same truck with a different sticker.
TLDR: it helps businesses /contractors save money
