- 17 years ago, ex-chef Kevin Kent picked up his first Japanese knife, sparking an obsession that spiraled into half a dozen retail stores, two documentaries, a book, and hundreds and hundreds of sharp things squirreled away that until now have been unseen by the general public.
We've been asking Kevin for years to do a video of his knife collection and finally, the time has come! This week, we get PART 2: some Kevin Kent specials, a handful of prototypes, and even a couple of axes and hunting knives along the way.
Itching to pick up a Ken Kageura? Grab one of the last from the legendary blacksmith here:

The collection is amazing but the best part of these videos is listening to Kevin's stories about the blacksmiths and where each knife came from and the trips to Japan. So fun! I hope there are more of these down the line!
There's probably five more parts 😅😂
Great to see staff collections. Even better to hear Kevin talk about how he got started and some history of the knife makers.
There's so much history in this collection!
Wohooo, it was a long Time to part 2.
I enjoyed these great knifes and the storys behind them.
Thanks for sharing.
And I still love your shirt. ❤
Thank you!
Please to continue this content. Simply amazing knives and very amusing stories. Thanks Kevin
There's lots more on the way!
I live in Shikoku, north of all of the Tosa knife makers and regularly go shopping there. I would love to see a series of regional makers beyond the big three/four of Sanjo, Takefu, Sakai and Seki. Learning about other, regional makers would both add to our knowledge and let knife people buy even more stuff. Also, a series on the industrial steel makers which provide steels of all grades to the less traditional makers could also be pretty cool. Love your passion. Please keep it up
Absolutely, those are definitely videos we hope to make in the future!
Love seeing all of the staff's collections, and hearing the stories about what the knives mean to them. Please keep it up!
We've got more coming every month this year!
Wish we could've seen more of that old stock Hatsukokoro Inazuma
Honestly this made me realize again how much sentimental value knifes can hold and the stories they have, its nice seeing you go back in time into those memories while going trough the knifes.
Great content be pleased to see more knive collections like these
It was a fun walk down memory lane!
Thanks for another great video Kevin. It was amazing to see it pick up where you left off, with the Kujira & Ken story. I have one and can really appreciate your comment about the grind line being visible yet not perceptible by touch.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
These videos are great! It's very cool to see different knives from different knife makers.
Right? It was a fun video to shoot!
Agreed!
I absolutely love these videos and I really enjoy Kevin's stories!!
I'm glad to hear it!
Great seeing some more of your knives Kevin, wish it had been longer and a little more detailed. I'm hoping for vol 3 now. I think there is a lot of interest in seeing the staff's collection. Let's see more please.
There's probably gonna be 6 or 7 videos, so you'll get your fix!
Great as always :) I would like to see more videos with Kevin's collection. All best, stay safe and show us more of this content,
Thank you so much! Thank you as always for the comments and views.
Love these Videos
very cool to hear this stories…more pls.
Stay tuned!
Great video. Love that you don’t even know how many knives you have. Kev ya seem like such a grounded dude. Your staff is a reflection of that joy too.
Thank you! We have a fantastic team of folks.
I want the purple heart wa from the michiko. Elegant simplicity. Quintessential Japanese.
Just got back from a Japan trip. Got two petty knives for my brother and myself. Now I want more... eyeing one of those Honesuki's.
Honesukis are rad, I use mine a ton!
Yes! Part two finally !!!!
More coming this summer!
these videos - sentimental and historical - are fantastic
My observations are fairly recent and cover a short period time dealing with Knifewear. I've also read about the experience of working with the Knifewear team. These appear to be first-class people who have been nurtured as an employee of Kevin Kent. This conclusion is based on my reading and conversations with team members. I have learned about Kevin's organization skills and through those his quality as a man. Many or most employers could learn from Kevin's standards and I'm sure this includes the Japanese people with whom he deals on behalf of us Canadian knife enthusiasts.
Thank you so much!
Love it!
Yes…love these.😊
Thank you!

Coming right up!
