Great demo! Coming from Resolve, Premiere and FCP X, this looks very well designed, something Adobe in particular could learn from. Clever the way overlapping two clips ('shots') will automatically add a crossfade. Nice! Whole UX looks superb. Going to download and try on Windows to see if it will work for our workflow.

Nice, me too. And just enjoying hating on Adobe a little here, ahem, they will rip you off horribly on the account cancelation. Like it's making a lot of work for your bot to discontinue your subscription, the bot is workin' up a sweat man, and there's a lot of mid-level managers need to get involved! That'll be like $60 USD or whatever it was just to get out of their s***! Unfortunately they won a class-action lawsuit around 2012, the f-ers. Anyway, I will never, never, never (never say never) never used Adobe again, and I hope they rot! I do miss Premiere though.

This is a truly well crafted piece of software. I'm a Linux user and have used KdenLive for awhile now. I find the interface of that program to be clunky and difficult to manage. The developers of Shotcut clearly had the user in mind. The way they use tabs reduces clutter without making the operation you need impossible to find is just awesome. Elegant software. One thing I love is dragging a clip on the same timeline over another creating an automatic crossfade. Also, the intuitive idea of grabbing the top edge of the clip to create a fade is brilliant. The developers have done their best to compress an operation into one move instead of two or three. This can seriously improve workflow. Even cutting a clip is so simple just by using a button. In Kdenlive, I have to set the playhead over the area I want to cut, click on the cut tool, and then very carefully overlay the cut tool over where the playhead is sitting. I find all of the commonly used features in video editing programs to be a snap in Shotcut. I just downloaded the program yesterday and I'm already doing operations on it that would have taken me a good deal of time to figure out how to do in Kdenlive. If you're a user that doesn't have a high power, state of the art computer this program just works. Another annoyance I find in Kdenlive is the choppy preview window. I went through literally hours to try and find a solution to this irritation. After following instructional videos to the letter, I still couldn't improve the choppiness. Kudos to the developers of making not only a amazing piece of software but keeping it free and open source as well.

I just wanted to say thank you for the awesome video! I'm a beginner when it comes to videoediting and I've been looking for a perfect free solution.
There seems to be a plethora of options (around 10 or so) from which to choose from but I decided to go with Shotcut.
I did also look at OpenShot but some people said it's unstable, crashes, freezes and stutters at times and lots of folks seemed to say Shotcut was the way to go.
This video was perfect since lots of videos are close to 2 hours or so and 10 minutes is way more doable as a watcher and the video seemed to have most of the important stuff explained with an easy to follow manner. I didn't know about keyframes or how to fade in or out. I just used the plus button to add the effects and didn't know I could just drag and drop from a corner. That will save me quite a bit of time. And keyframes seem like a great way to animate stuff. The first time I did a test edit, I didn't know you could animate stuff so I just copypasted the same photo all the time on like every frame which resulted (understandably) in a very stuttery end result. I'm new to this stuff so I didn't know any of the basic concepts.
    So thanks again!

Very helpful to get started, thank you! I wanted to make a small video and chose Shotcut from a video editing comparison article on some website. I wanted to combine images and audio and also move and scale the images. This video showed me everything I needed for that (especially the keyframes part)!

Great video and honestly, the pronunciation mistake is easily skippable unless yer someone that looks for perfection only ;).
Yer program is quite neat and really great as I was looking for an alternative to Windows Movie Maker for quite some time since my laptop that has it isn't that usable anymore, sadly -_-.

So I’m not sure how to do this with shotcut, BUT, I do know a way to do it with Streamlabs obs, which is a free recording software. You just simply add a filter called noise suppression and adjust it from there.
