- We challenged a group of accomplished rock climbers to keep up with trained pole dancers for a day. Though both disciplines call for intense focus and muscle control, how will our rock climbers respond to the demands of mastering the pole?
All of us at SELF are saddened to learn of the passing of pole dance instructor Wendy Lee. Wendy was a bright and kind soul, remarkably nurturing towards the other athletes on set, and will be dearly missed by us all.

RIP Wendy. Thanks for the joy you brought to us viewers.
RIP wendy lee :((
RIP 😔🙏🙏
My condolences for her passing. I'm sure she had a positive impact on many ppls lifes and especially women she empowered while instructing. That's really sad..
Oh no :( RIP Wendy
My condolences to Wendy and everyone she loved. 😔 The energy in this video is infectious. Love to see women empowering women.
What has happened to her?
That’s awful 😢, I literally just found this video and was totally in awe and now I’m 😭
Pop ups ups have p
U m
Anyone know her cause of death?
When the previous video came out where these rock climbers taught the pole instructors, I was excited for this one to come out. These women are all so strong and inspiring. The way they all cheered each other on really said “welcoming community.”
I’m so sad to hear about Wendy’s passing. She was one of my favorite instructors with Cleo’s Rock n Pole. I’m sure her loved ones know just how influential and loved she was in the pole community. I keep hearing her “Yes, babe!” I will practice pole today with her in my thoughts. Rest In Peace, Wendy
@Jasmine Gibbs Hey! Did you know her personally? Any clue how she passed? Either way, I hope she rests in peace.
@@YagnaseniMitra I did not know her personally and could not find anything about what happened
It was so great to see that women of different practices respect each other. It was also beautiful to see women who don't normally feel feminine exploring their femininity. Also my condolences to instructor Lee's family and friends, she was a gem.
Why do women have to be femine though? Men aren't sexualised like women are through pole dancing
I love how she says "yes yes yes!" when the girls are insecure but are doing the right thing, even if it's clumsy. As an instruction, she knows the learning curve very well and it's so meaningful to know you're on the right track because you always assume you might be wrong when something is new, but she makes it clear that they are doing exactly what they need to and they shouldn't worry about it + that affirmation and praise is so good for confidence. I think if I ever teach someone something, I will make sure to point out what they are doing right because that is just as important as what you are doing wrong, you need that info but almost no one gives it to you. Fantastic instructor
Can't believe my eyes. Wendy? Such a positive energy. So young and fresh. This breaks my heart. I just hope her soul found the sunlight.
What happened?
@@Lala-un5yb she passed away :c
I think this pole dancer and wall climbing crossover series is my favourite. Both teams are so positive and so supportive, it really makes me smile
Wendy, Rest In Peace you beautiful soul. Thank you for sharing your passion with us all. I’ll never forget the bond that we all shared together on set. Shine on bb girl ✨
Sad!!!! Do you know what happened?? Ps I loved watching you!! Gahhh you’re gorgeous and fun!!
YOU DID GREAT SABRINA!
@@rmannayr2129 Thank you! :) hehe
In case people don't know, inverts can take 6 months to a year for some people to master! And spinning inverts are typically intermediate-level.
They made those inverts look easy! At my studio they didn't let us even attempt inverts until we'd spent about 3 months doing conditioning to build strength, and even then, most people barely managed it by jumping into it and hooking a foot around the pole to pull themselves the rest of the way up. To use arms and core strength alone, AND to keep your legs straight the whole time, is incredible!
Crying because this supportive environment and self-exploration is exactly what pole is all about, and to hear about Wendy Lee.
I love this series, but these last two with this group were just amazing. So saddened by the passing of Wendy she had absolute grace and her encouragement just radiated through the screen.
Their inverts are BEAUTIFUL! I’ve been a dancer for two years now and would love to have aerial inverts that looked like that! That’s extremely impressive for day one! They crushed it!
Same. To do straddle backs nicely on first try. 😭 THEN AGAIN these ladies obviously have so much upper body strength, so it makes sense. 😅 I find solice in that I have better climbing form than them. 😂
YES! I've been pole dancing for a year and a half and my inverts are not even close to being as clean as theirs 😭
As a rock climber who just started pole (they closed my climbing gum in the pandemic and I had to find something else to climb) I can definitely relate! It was something I never thought I would do but thoroughly enjoy it!! Never knock or judge sometime til you try it. You might learn something new about yourself!
I'm in the same boat! Also a rock climber that recently got into pole and LOVING it! Still working to break the "exotic" stereotypes my family still seem to have 🥲
@@novanna Maybe show them some artistic pole. I have a playlist of very lyrical and technical pole videos if you wanna look? I’m really into ballet so I love routines that borrow those influences
"I had to find something else to climb" soooo relatable😂. I kinda tried climbing to my bed during lockdown (It's on a mezzanine - hoping that's the correct English word)
THIS is what professional instruction is. Getting one on one with your subjects without embarrassment over the context, as some can be a bit conscious with 'pole dancing' like it's something gross or kinky when it's purely flex and athletic. Like watching a gymnast at skill. Kudos to both these ladies and the coaches who made this fun and inspiring to watch.
The first instructor was just so supportive and happy… I LOVE HER
Wendy Lee❤️ too soon, someone else left the comment that her encouragement radiates through the screen and I couldn't agree more. Rest easy Wendy
They’re doing tricks on their first try that I can’t do after 4 years of pole dancing, so powerful
The best 2 sports challenge. I had chills in both videos. So sad to hear about Wendy’s passing, she seemed like such a light in this world ✨
Yay it's the same ladies! They all had incredible energy!
Thoughts and prayers to Wendy Lee and her loved ones 🙏🏽
As someone that does ballet and rock climbs, I love this so much. There’s a lot of cross over muscle development in pole and rock climbing. Finding the flow and lines is the really the only thing the rock climbing girls need to develop. But all the core, forearm and shoulder girdle strength is totally there. So fun!
I love ballet and pole dance, Elena Gibson is goals ❤️
"Being upside down is my preferred position...in life!" I Love this comment at so many levels!
Definitely didn't expect for such a bright video to have such a sad message at the bottom of it. I'm so so sad to hear about Wendy, my deepest condolences to her family and friends 😞💔
this was incredible, both videos were filled with so much light and love. Seeing the warmth each group of ladies had for each other as they introduced them to their art! So so amazing. So sad to hear about Wendy’s passing, but incredibly grateful for the gift she offered to us.
Literally cried so many tears while watching this. The amount this touched my heart to see women empowering each other to be strong and to be confident in themselves is beyond words. Thank you for creating this video. And rest in peace, Wendy, you are such a beautiful soul.
Wendy I feel so lucky to have been your student . Thank you for letting your light shine on me. You will be missed.
I'm so heartened to see all these women teaching each other their skills and celebrating their attempts and growth and bravery in trying something new that makes them nervous and using their different kinds of strength and beauty. also, I want more Adriana always? I especially love her vibe, though they're all amazing. My heart is broken about Wendy, too, after falling in love with all these women.
I love these so much, I couldn't help smiling the whole time. Seeing people discover new sides of what they are capable of, and the teachers are always so positive and supportive!
Also rock climbers and pole dancers are a great combination!
(climbers have their "dino"(dyno) thing, and dancers with their t-rex hands!)
^^
They all have such beautiful body awareness, both the instructors with their instructions and those rock climbers! A magical community of women.
I hope Windy’s loved ones find grace, peace, and strength. She must have had many people who loved her.
WOW when I say timing is unbelievable. Wendy was meant to be doing this SELF video as something big for her to leave behind to reach millions of people forever. I was not expecting to read she passed after finishing the video ❤️❤️❤️😢
The rock climbers and pole dancers segment was actually really inspirational on both ends.
My favorite group of athletes in this series, along with the sports. It made me cry because they were so encouraging and uplifting. Genuine positivity.
Wendy laughter made me smile. My heart and condolones goes out to her family and friends in this sad time.
I kept thinking to myself the entire time I watched this video, how beautiful and radiant Wendy is. Her presence just drew my attention and that was before I was made aware of her passing. I met her years ago when I took a class at BeSpun. So saddened to hear she's gone. I want to know what happened. Grateful that this was captured so soon before her death ❤️
I've had a lot of pole classmates who were rock climbers and they always do really well because they have so much upper body strength. But what Favia said is so true. She's used to using her arms and you can tell by the way she and Katie climbed. They were pulling themselves up with straight upper body strength, which is so much harder than forearm climbing! Lol
I love the genre of athletes doing similar but different sports. It really highlights the athleticism vs skill involved.
Ok. But Adrianna tho😭😂 her energy is everything 💯 And can we appreciate how beautiful and artistic pole dancing is...cause wow
I think this is my favourite episode. All of them are so joyful and supportive, it's like they're all best friends having the time of their lives. So wholesome!
Wendy was so sweet and encouraging 😭❤️ RIP
Yay! I've been looking forward to this since I saw the first one with these amazing people, they were so fun and uplifting of each other. So sad to hear about Wendy :...(
ARGH! I miss pole so badly. It was the one thing I stuck with, even though I wasn't great at it straight away, and it helped me so much with my mental health. Even my therapist would ask when I'm going back because she saw the difference in me.
I've also been considering trying rock climbing, as it would cover my weaker points with pole. I recently moved interstate though, so building up the courage to start again at a new studio is a little scary. I'm giving myself time to settle into the new area, but I also need to sort out my budget.
But yeah, such a great community, and so good for both mental and physical health.
I hope you're able to get back to doing what you love. :)
Same I started again this year and it was so scary because i have a new studio and the groups are mixed but I'm so happy! I feel strong and powerful, I der the improvement, I feel the difference and i've become more sociable even
I want to try pole, but I'm a plus size girl and have no confidence in that.
My condolences to Wendy's family. I just found this video and even though I never knew her personally her positivity and confidence is both infectious and encouraging. May she rest in peace. 💚
I was so excited for this video to come out after seeing the first part and enjoying the rock climbing so much, just the positive attitude everyone had during that experience I knew this would be more of the same. I am saddened to hear of Wendy's passing - thank you for having her on this shoot, and giving all of us a glimpse of her light.
I loved watching this group! So much positivity and so many radiant smiles.
Rest in peace Wendy...
Katie, (the long haired climber in green and black) has the body and style of a ballet dancer, her insteps on the floor at the first trick🤯😍. I wonder if she has any background or if she is just that blessed✨
I just love how positive they all are. They're just excited and enjoying themselves, it's so nice to see
Literally in love with all six of them! They have such infectious energies and I am seriously considering taking up pole and rock climbing because of them! Love love love!
Favia is my spirit animal, I want to be her!
These women are all fantastic teachers, dancers and climbers both! I really enjoyed this pair of videos--brave women challenging themselves, cheering each other, appreciating each other's talents, and having fun.
How are they all so badass, energetic and kind at the same time, I wanna be friends with all of them 😭
Edit: just found out about Wendy and all I can do is to wish all the strenght I can give to the family and friends and hope she is in a better place as she deserves
When she said ''I could just cry'' ..well I am crying, cos its so beautiful to see, women sharing with other women and embracing their bodies and individual beauty!
This is really one of my favorite of the SELF videos of athletes trying activities that are similar in their muscle group requirements. These women are so excited to be doing what they're doing, so excited to try the challenges on the pole, the instructors are so excited and supportive for them, and all in all they all just look like they're having so much fun.
they way they're all lit up and glowing by the end
The sequel we’ve all been waiting for
How lucky are we to have witnessed such a lovely, positive, radiant person. Rest in peace, Wendy. You can tell she loved what she did. May we all find something to enjoy and share it with others and Wendy did 💕
Wendy had such a great personality and illuminating smile, I'm so sad to hear she's passed. RIP Wendy and healing thoughts to her friends and family ❤️
This group of women is so wholesome, they all were so open to try new stuff, trusted each other and in their own capabilities (in this video AND the rock climbing video) and that made me just really happy to see
I love how supportive everyone is!
The energy of these videos is so powerful, seeing people joyfully cheer on and mentor, it’s a joy to watch. RIP Wendy Lee :-(
This one is the most heart-warming AND depressing one ! I was full of joy and happiness until the last seconds. RIP, Wendy ! You were such a positive sunshine !
As someone who've been doing pole sport for around 2/3 years now, they all did really great! Love the enthousiasm and how they went into everything with positivity. I definitely needed more time to master those moves in the beginning lol
Also the instructors were amazing! Loved their energy and support, makes me feel like I'm in the pole studio. Also liked how they were there to catch the rock climbers on the inverts. At my studio the instructor is also always there to catch you with new moves, and I think that's how it's supposed to be. Loved the video!!
The fact that I’m a pole dancer and my best friend is a rock climber just makes this better
Have you ever tried each others sports?
I started watching these videos out of curiosity and I keep watching because everyone is so positive and reassuring. Anything that I decide to try I hope I have Teachers as encouraging as both the pole dancers and rock climbers. I'm so sad to hear of Wendy's passing and I hope her loved ones know just how beloved she was ❤
The first few times I was spinning on the pole I felt so happy, it kind of reminded me of the joy I felt when I was little on the swings..
Gave this one a big like because of the encouraging and the honest admiration between these women. Women are so effing good
What a great video, and then the gut punch at the end. She seemed like a great instructor, very encouraging and brave. I've got tears going down my face and I send my condolences to Wendy's family and friends! :(
I'm so sad about Wendy 😭😭😭 her personality was everything and she was gorgeous. This is such a beautiful representation of what women supporting women is ❤️
I love how much fun they are having! Such a good episode! RIP Wendy Lee. She seemed like such a bright and cheerful person, so graceful and such a beautiful spirit. How incredibly sad to hear about her passing 😢
Reading the comments, and so sorry to see that Wendy passed away. She seemed like a shining light. Very patient, kind, warm, and friendly. I'm sorry to everyone who loved and knew her.
I love these girls sm 🥺
Wendy Rest In Peace :((
Wendy Lee looks like an amazing, empowering teacher and just generally a joy to know. Bless her memory.
I've wanted to try pole for a few years now and always admired the sport, watching this was very fun and inspiring, all the instructors were so lovely and supportive, it's devastating to learn that Wendy Lee has passed, she had such a beautiful spirit.
I come back to this video often just to see how supportive all of these women are of each other.
This was so fun to watch. I was literally clapping and cheering when they got the moves. Some of the moves were terrifying. Good for them for trying something new!! I like this comparison series. I can't wait to watch the others!!
By the end the feeling was kind of magical. They caught on so quick.
Very saddened by Wendy Lee’s transition, What a lovely lady to share her gifts with us. A pleasure to watch
I was SOOO hoping this exact video would come out with these ladies after watching the other video!! Jumped with joy when I saw the thumbnail
I get *so* invested in these series and showing them learn each other’s sports.
So so heartbroken to learn about Wendy Lee’s passing. Such a beautiful, warm delightful and bright soul, Wendy you will be missed🥺😭RIP
i love so much that this video is the EXACT representation of the pole community. Everyone is always so kind and supportive. Always just clapping and cheering and screaming with joy for even the littlest progress/effort made.
I'm a pole dancer and used to cross train with rock climbing. I LOVE this. Similar muscle groups but also not similar at the same time at all 😂 at least when it comes to tiny finger muscles lol
My favorite video of this series!!! So impressed by all these strong women.
Wendy has such a beautiful energy and heart ❤❤❤ wishing her peace and happiness wherever she is now
Rest in peace Wendy, you were a majestic and beautiful dancer as well as a kind person
It must feel so good to be encouraged by other women to learn something new, not to be afraid to make mistakes.
I love this show so much! This cross over episode and the climbing one are my favorite so far the ladies show each other so much encouragement I love it.
I love how happy the instructor is for them it made me feel as tho I was a part of it and like I could accomplish the same things! Rip 🙏🏾 Wendy
Wendy is my fav, she’s so beautiful and strong and it empowers other woman to learn how to use their bodies in different ways, may her beautiful soul Rest In Peace and my condolences to her family during this hard time 🥺😔💜
I pray the Lord comforts her family and friends in this time of grief. She looked like a kind beautiful soul.
I just love how excited all the instructors are when the climbers meet the challenge!!! ❤ So loving and supportive.
The Climbers had lots of courage and they did so well!!
"being upside is my preferred position in life" really got me XD
EVERYONE WAS SO SUPPORTIVE and favia is my idol. that is all thank you for listening
Wait- does anyone know what happened to Wendy? That’s so sad- she seemed so encouraging “yes babe” and such a kindhearted person.
*rest in peace Wendy*
Wendy was such a lovely and cheerful person. It’s sad that she’s gone… RIP Wendy
Wow… Rest In Peace Wendy. How sad 😞
The sequel we needed!
Condolences for Wendy lee, may she rest in peace. this was very nice to watch, after months of struggling I managed to do an invert after this video!
Rest in peace Wendy Lee, we are missing you so much right now.
Sooooo inspiring! The Instructors AND the students… very REAL, emotional and motivating. Thank y’all 💕👵🏽🙏🏽
This video was so filled with positivity and encouragement! These people did such a wonderful job.
They all did sooo good and it looked like they were having so much fun
