OSCARS 2022 RED CARPET FASHION ROAST (Jada DELIVERS & Zendaya CONFUSES)

- The 2022 Oscars was a night nobody is going to forget . . . at least not for a long time! Between Will Smith & Chris Rock, the non-televised award presentations, and a poorly executed red carpet the night was all over the place! The red carpet fashions were just strange, non-sensical, or looked unfinished, and well what a mess.

Zendaya’s after look was a billion times better than the shirt skirt one
I preferred the stunning silver skirt. And I loved the twist on the famous Sharon Stone blouse and skirt.
@@BbGun-lw5vi I loved both
the first one suited her better, and, although the last piece was gorgeous, it didn't make for a very nice silhouette
@@marinapereira3831 zendaya did look stunning w the skirt/shirt combo, but sometimes a different silhouette would be more interesting! i feel like zendaya is always at the forefront of challenging red carpet norms while still looking high fashion, and she didn’t really do it yesterday. but i also feel like zendaya is always pressured to look perfect all the time so im not too mad about it

This may be the quickest turnaround on a video Luke has ever done. I’m impressed
Ikr I saw it and was like damn ALREADY
He HAD to lol
he's a busy gay bee :3
Impressive!
Was just bout to say
“But everything fits”… the bar is set so low for stylists 😂
Hearing you say: "will we remember this is 10 years" made me think you should make a video of the most iconic and well known Oscar looks of all time and why you think they are so memorable
It would have been great If Kristen Stewart had done a twist on the revenge dress. That would have been awesome moment.
Great idea!
Ugggh that’s such a good idea. That would have been iconic!
👊🏼
I don’t know if she like wearing dress in real life. It would have been a moment though. I also feel like she regularly wears a variation of this Oscar’s outfit
Fr the Chanel contract is absolutely suffocating any chance of creativity with Kristin ☹️
Jada delivered looks, and her husband delivered blows
I was looking for this comment lmaoo
🤪🤪
👍 👌 (poor Chris and poor Will!)
You could say it was a one-two punch…
It was a lil slap, nothing to be outraged over 😂
Lupita always looks amazing - over the last several years I think she has established herself as one of the most fashionable and consistent stars
She looked absolutely regal 🤩
She looked great but she's had some bad looks e.g. her Prada green dress for the met gala
@@nutauf7587 nope she looked great in that as well.
She could wear a Shopkins jumper and look beautiful
@@nutauf7587 Not my favorite look especially as it was not in line with the theme, but I am more forgiving of Met looks. That is where you take big risks and they do not always work out
Lily James' look is a perfect moment for what is going on in her career. She has previously gotten a lot of sweet, nice girl parts and is now playing Pamela Anderson, and the pink dress is the perfect nod to this sweet, and sexy style that embodies the type of girl she is on screen.
That’s the exact vibe I got from it I loved it so much
I honestly want the dress for myself ToT
She looked great. Incredible body too.
Zendaya looks beautiful, but I also wonder how much people love the looks simply because Zendaya is wearing them lol
I mean, you gotta wear what works for you
every time she comes out i find myself disliking her clothes but loving her hair and makeup, but i find everyone is obsessed with all her every time. just accepted it at this point 🤷🏻♀️
@@winniebee7561 same I. Find most of her outfits pretty basic but people call it being a fashion icon..i MEan not bad but not good just ok. Her editorials are just meh a handful are good some are just bad and you can tell she doesn't have that natural sence of style based on her day to day look she depends a lot of her popularity model frame and law and most of them are direct copy of a runway look from. A model that looks just Iike her
it's giving "skinny and pretty"
No because I know for a fact that majority of the time celebrity looks suck but zendaya is always one to deliver. Her looks look like they actually put effort into it
this whole carpet gave teen choice awards with a prom theme. it's the oscars... get it together...
This is exactly what I thought! It's only March so it can't be prom. Why are they wearing prom dresses?
Yesss like I genuinely don’t understand they have the opportunity to attend THE OSCARS why not go over the top why not be extra and iconic WHYY are they going for for ugly, boring and simple looks😭😭
I feel like the Oscars have always been more about simplicity and elegance, actors in general aren’t really into artsy fashion and a lot more reserved. The Grammys are normally loud, exciting, creative but even that decreased in recent years. But yeah you can do something simple and beautiful without looking like you have a prom dress on.
Interesting .... some behaved like they were IN high school, not dressed like it😂
It certainly does seem that hollyweird s regressing
@@gigixo7960 isn't over the top meant for the metgala and Grammys? And glamorous and beautiful for the Oscars? Oscars never was about being extra but more glamorous looks. I feel like the Oscars used to be more glamorous till 2014 maybe and it became more simple
I truly believe people are just distracted by how hot, fit, and generally appealing Zendaya is. That look is not great and seeing her on best dressed lists is confusing.
zendaya is undeniably gorgeous but she is literally prime 'is it a look or is she just skinny'
Finally someone said it
i love her more than life itself, and upon seeing her fit, i didn't love it. the vanity fair one made my jaw drop, but i don't love the oscars look
I love Zendaya but if anyone else wore that look they would have been EVISCERATED. Then again she's put in her time and earned her fashion stripes, so people already know she is capable of stunning over the top glamorous looks; she has nothing to prove.
Same with her acting 😕 she’s SUPER pretty and has a great body but that acting is so bland

when i put my objective hat on i know that jada's dress is gorgeous, but my boyfriend said "jada looks like a piece of kale" and i can't unsee that
lmaooooo not the kale
I was thinking spinach :D that shade of green with this material is really unfortunate
Man! I couldn't even see the dress cause that Montana sized, self entitled, over bloated ego got in the way
She looks like a spinach to me to be honest
😅
Zendaya’s after look was 10x better. That being said, the draping of the skirt was beautiful.
I can’t disagree more with Amy schumer look, it’s absolutely horrendous to look at, I’ve seen the same dress at kohls and tjmaxx
it was so boring!
I can’t stop thinking how her breasts look like a butt. Terrible choice.
I was thinking I’ve seen that exact bow motif on so many clothes in high street stores in the UK
LMAO! 10000% this! I was thinking the exact same. Or Macy's junior "occasion" dress section.
Omigoodness! Ha! Ha!
really bummed that you didn't talk about kelly marie tran's look! it got like zero coverage but it was an incredible contemporary take on traditional vietnamese dress and it was beautifully made and fit her perfectly. she was easily best dressed imo
The first ever Áo dài at the oscars and an incredibly important symbol for Vietnamese culture. It was in a beautiful color. I live in Vietnam and was incredibly happy to see her on the carpet
I just looked it up, it was gorgeous!
I had to google it because I hadn't seen any pic of her outfit anywhere and your right, she looks phenomenal!
literally a jaw dropping look, she deserves to be on every best dressed list !!
You're so right that there's zero coverage of the outfit ughhhh it's so frustrating. But I do have to say that I wish there wasn't that sheer panelling in the dress bc you can defs tell it's a different colour. Wish she went a bit more traditional and had silky pants underneath in white or something because I looooove that look. Traditional áo dái's are so stunning. I love how they're so colourful and breezy and layered which is kind of missing from Kelly's look. As a Viet American, I want to love the look but I feel like it could've been a million times better 😭
could you possibly do the after party too? if not it’s ok❤️
I'd second an after party one!!
Third!
After seeing so many comments about the after party looks I rushed to see them and I found them overall so much better, so yeah I definitely would love to hear Luke's opinions on them.
Plssssssss we neeed it
i would love it! i think the after party had more interesting looks
I was thinking for a moment that I’m tired of seeing Zendaya in collared/business shirt looks… it seems to be a reoccurring theme. BUT - she wears it better than most men, wears practically everything absurdly well, and if she genuinely likes it - thats kind of cute that shes going through a moment that we can look back on like that.
I think a lot of the celebs saved their best looks for the after party. You should do a roast/analysis of those, too! Kristen Stewart's look was a lot more glamorous. I think ELLE has the whole gallery~
never mind i just saw some of the Kardashians' looks... y i k e s
@@filmblooms kim just wore something that would get her attention. Kourtneys was god awful and Kendall was eh
Timmy’s swag makes that come to life. And Andrew’s pants fit him perfectly. Need to pay homage to men having pants fit correctly
Wow it’s not usually my style at all but that Jessica Chastain look is fantastic!
One of my favorites too.
She very rarely misses she always shows out!!
Twas quite something! 💗💜😀👍🏾
It had such a Tammy Faye aura. I loved it!
My god what a MESS this whole event was
It was definitely something!
I never even thought about Kristen Stewart wearing a dress to honor Princess Diana...and now I am pissed she didn't. Definitely a missed opportunity....
Gotta say, overall the most disappointing look-aspects of the night was the hair and makeup. No one really did anything experimental, vivacious or exciting. It was all very “meh”.
Julia fox was bit eccentric in the makeup

Kristen Stewart needs to fire her stylist. They’re always doing her dirty
I think her stylist is begging her to just wear what they give her and not chose her one fits at this point
@@daraudobong7195 Kristen wanted to wear this! She said she wants to feel comfortable and be herself..
the look feels very Kristen so I think it's on her this time. It almost feels like she already wore this somewhere
Also, she NEEDS to get out of that Chanel contract. They're doing her absolutely dirty! Not everyone can or should be a Chanel ambassador and that's okay.
She is always awful.
From the red carpet to the show itself….. this year’s Oscars was a HOT MESS. I was disappointed.
I looooved Jessica Chastian's dress! I loved how the cooper sort of looked armor-like at the bust and then turned into this very fantasy fairy purple. It's such an interesting color combo and not a color you see on the red carpet very often. It was also so beautifully made, the tailoring was impeccable, and I actually like the silk trim at the bottom of the skirt when I usually don't like that sort of element..
Lupita looks like a Klimt painting and is so beautiful I could cry. Jada's dress was incredible, it could have so easily worn her, but she carried it off perfectly. Olivia Coleman is the angel atop a Xmas tree in the best possible way.
Kristen Stewart looks like she's winning a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Kids Choice Awards.
The red carpet was SO BORING OMG
You have the Best Comment 🙌🏾
Right? When Timothée rocking classic rockstar glam is the most exciting thing that’s going on you know it’s Bad.
Well, I liked them all, especially Zendaya and Andrew, the Oscars are important prizes, not like the music ones (any clown can be seen there)
@@toni3762 I liked Simu liu's hot pink suit which not everyone can pull off and right up Luke's alley. Don't know why he didn't cover it.
Zoë Kravitz was giving me a similar vibe to Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the silhouette was definitely there
I super agree with you for Zendaya. I felt the same thing, it didnt look bad she looked great, I love her whole look but I was expecting more too.
Yeah it was a lovely look but not for the Oscars in my opinion, expected more from her at such a big award gala. At any other award show or gala it would have been fantastic.
I thought Megan thee Stallions's dress is actually amazing. I thought the top was simple, but in a way that supported the skirt without making it over crowded. And for her cutouts or her showing her body: that's like her calling card in the same way baggy clothes are a calling card for Billie Eilish.
If you look closely of her dress ...the dress has amazing details ...i actually liked her dress so much
agreed! meg's dress was gorge
I felt the slit should have been shorter, it took attention away from the 'tail' of the dress.
@🌙Nostalgia Jones🔮 I was getting Boticellii vibes from her dress. The skirt was gorgeous.

I feel like for Zendaya, it wasn't one of her films, it wasn't about her and she (or her team) chose something more "normal". And I kinda love that she dressed like "just a guest".
Dune??????
She starred in Dune which was nominated for nearly everything including Best Picture… Spider man was also nominated for some awards.
@@epicgamer8117 i get where you're coming from, but she was in dune for like two minutes and it wasn't nominated for any acting categories, so it was less of a big deal for her. nwh's visual effects nom aside, its impact at the oscars was pretty negligible. if she was less famous then it would've been pretty understandable if she'd skipped the ceremony.
@@whatever-nr3tb @Epic gamer Yes, Dune. The Dune Premiere was a different event where she dressed like the highlight of the evening that she can be. She had her Dune Moments. And now, she was just a guest.

alana's dress is likely an homage to a halston anjelica houston wore in the 70s, the scales also remind of marion cotillard's jean paul gaultier (oscars 2008)
You’re right. I liked the dress. I just think her hair and makeup makes it look way too plain for the Oscars.

Zendaya. She can't miss.
Kodi was really good. Loved all of it.

Why is regular Versace so ugly when they can do beautiful couture? That dress was stunning. Sometimes I think fashion houses are secretly laughing at rich people with some of the stuff they make.

I’ll dare to say this is my favorite video about Oscar’s fashion this year. You seem very knowledgeable and honest about your opinion about every piece. Also love when people call out boring fashion elements or failed attempts because many others would just praise it because of the brand name.
Kristen’s outfit is a slap in the face. Button it up she looks like she’s going to the office.
That wasn't the only slap in the face that night 😂
She looks like the office intern hung over on Monday morning, arriving an hour late to her desk.

@@Dstar5me crap didn’t think about that … Don’t want to get smacked by Will Smith 😂
Luke, I think you are an amazing fashion critic and designer historian. Your channel is thoughtful, educational and fun to watch. What I can't figure out is how couture dresses don't take into account the woman's body. When you have a dress made for you, why not design it to bring out the best in a woman's assets. Case in point, Amy Schumer's gown. The bow could have been placed to flow down body rather than outlining her stomach. Another example--Jessica Chasten in Gucci. Jessica has a very long neck and décolletage. Why not use the structure of the dress to balance her proportions. The dress, although beautiful in color, left her looking swan necked and short waisted. You want more oomph in fashion and I want to see another dimension to the design.
Thank you for your comment. Finally, someone knows more than the just names of the celebrity who wears the clothes Jamie
I’d love for you to make a video on how these artists choose these dresses. I mean, do they even choose at all? Do they have a say in color/styling/etc? How do they make sure another actor/singer won’t wear the same thing? Do they have extras in the limousine? Do the stylists walk behind them with a steamer or saw kit? Are there artists that aren’t as famous that HAVE to buy their look? 😳 I’d love to know all that from you!! 💯😍
U can watch some of the met gala getting ready videos on Vogue, some of them show the process of making a look, I’m assuming it’s a similar process for the oscars and all other big events. But from what I saw when its a custom look the designers mostly take over and then the celebrities and their stylists give inputs and ideas, when its a ready look the stylists present multiple options for the celebrity and they pick a look together (sometimes when they’re in contract with a brand all the looks would he from that specific brand) with a member from the brand present sometimes. Again, it depends on how big the celebrity is and their their relationship with their stylist and designers (also the stylists’ connections with brands) thats what determines how much they have a say in the looks.
And yes the stylists mostly stay behind them at all times with equipment even on the red carpet sometimes they would be standing on the side that also depends if they’re allowed to go in, for example at the met gala they’re not allowed but for smaller events they usually are. Again watch the vogue videos if you’re interested
I think top actors can choose for themselves especially if they are on good terms with some brands, others may just choose to have faith in their stylist. If the designer is making something specially for the celeb they may have less control
Watch THR celebrity roundtable. They mention here and there.
But the short version is stylists may reach out to a brand for a specific outfit off the runway. These are usually one copy to go round. So they just borrow it.
Alternatively, they can be reached out to by the brand and they pick an outfit from their house. Very rarely will they do custom looks. Even so the house will most likely have veto over the style.
Option 3 you can just pick an outfit off the rack. Not for the Oscars of course but outfits are expensive so let's not stun for everything.
I honestly have to disagree on MegTheeStallion, I really loved that whole look!

I personally loved Jessica Chastain’s Gucci gown. It was so reminiscent of Tammy Faye. In the same way, Lily James’ look actually reminded me of Pam Anderson.
Kodi Smit-McPhee looked incredible, too.
You look stunning in this lighting ~like a painting
I think it’s also the color of his shirt. He often wears the wrong color for his skin tone which makes him look unhealthy. This blue is very nice with his coloring.
Lily James was my favorite women’s look and Timothée Chalamet was my favorite men’s look. Honorable mentions are Demi Singleton in Miu Miu, Zoë Kravitz channeling Audrey Hepburn, Andrew Garfield in Saint Laurent, Rachel Zegler in Dior Haute Couture, and Rami Malik in Prada. Every time I see this kinds of things happening, it puzzles me. I don't understand how you, when you can have it ALL, a team of people and experts working for you, making sure that every detail is suited to your needs and body and image... Then you choose a black short or a horrible green
Luke I'd love for you to include a picture when you reference things! Like a quick picture of the skeleton suit you mentioned while discussing Rickey Thompson, or the hood you were referring to with the Beyonce look! Love your videos btw!!

Poor Serena was left out… Lols and Will Smith apparently has been given enough attention without shining a light on wild wild west
Awesome rundown. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for the amazing content. I always, and I mean ALWAYS enjoy!
Timmy ate them all ( i’m dissapointed Luke didn’t talk about his crop top back) ❤️🔥🖤 Kodi is the second best for me. And Funny thing is Kodi said that Timothee is his fashion inspiration 🧚🏼♂️
I felt the red carpet was all a bit 'meh', nice but a bit boring and seen before. Maybe a sign of the times, people not wanting to be too extravagant with all that is going on in the world.
You mean other than the gift bags worth $140,000 that they got?
you've been CHURNING videos out recently, bless you luke!!!!
I learn so much listening to you... thank you !!!
You need to also do a video for the vanity fair party looks!
