When Calipari first got to Kentucky he said we are going to get the best of the best we hang banners and win championships, then he switched it up and said players first and bragged on how many people were from Kentucky in the NBA. It's not about him or the players it's about the Kentucky brand and the fans...
Its a see you later if they lose at same spot or even same weekend next year. Expectations are a certain way for a reason and at some point you just cant defend it anymore. Similar to the Jason Garrett with the Cowboys coaching run, you can only come up short so much before both parties realize its time to end it.

Well, Cal has to hit the portal hard NOW. Adou has already said he’s testing the draft. That scares me. We needed him to come back.
Arrogance is not good for any person in authority. Humility goes a long way.
The atmosphere around the team and fandom is so toxic it will be impossible anyway. Every mishap next year will be like the end of the world. That's an unthinkable amount of pressure on the team. How can they perform under such a big microscope?
The thing that needs to change is player retention. Keep signing the 5-star freshman but the ones that aren't going to be drafted in the first round must be re-recruited and retained. A battle-tested 5* is better than 90% of the 5th-year super seniors in the portal. So UK has 7 freshmen and only two that are projected to be drafted in the first round. Edwards and Wagner are projected 2nd rounders and I wouldn't be surprised if Bradshaw, Ugo (technically not a Fr, but was reclass who didnt play last yr),and Zvonimir, arent 2nd round candidates based on potential and measurements...but not so much production. So Cal needs to figure a way to get Wagner, Edwards, and one of those bigs to return and that's your nucleus and you can bring your 5* freshman along slower and you can add a portal transfer to fill any gaps in the roster.
Cal has put zero effort into retaining these types of players the last 3-4 years thinking he has better Freshman in the pipeline. How different woould the last couple years looked if they had Juzang, Livingston, Hopkin type players as sophomores & juniors to compliment the 5* freshman. No reason this can be done with NIL. Cal just needs to make it happen even if it cause one of the current HS commits to decommit due to PT concerns. I think UK can field a top 5 team and roster next year if Cal lets it happen.

The roster is not the problem it’s the coaching. Cal did it with transfers 2 years ago and same result. He likes to play the victim.
Very disappointed in this conversation. Sound like there's a few haters and babblers up here talking. And yea I know who these men are and what they've done as players. John had 2 5th year seniors in the starting lineup this season, 1 was his leading scorer at 20 a game! He's been in the transfer portal the last 3 years! No 1 remembers Oscar ?? National player of the year? 4th year and 5th year guy surrounded by juniors and grad transfers? This year look at how many 3's they shot and how fast they played.....they've never played that way which shows his willingness to change and try something different. This team shoulda won more in the tourney. Cal didn't coach them well enough in game. That's why they lost. It was in game coaching. Point blank

Not when you consider who would be needed to replace him. If they couldn't get Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan, or Jay Wright, then sticking with Cal (with some new ultimatums) was the next best option. This is Kentucky, it is THE job in college basketball. You can't just put anyone in there....this has been especially true in the age of social media and how much that influences marketing, recruiting, booster money, etc.

Nah it would have cost $40 million in booster money and there aren't any better or equal coaches available. Same boosters could just push the same money into NIL fund and buy a title instead of buying 5-10 years of NIT appearances. $40 million would buy you the entire high school top 10 and the entire transfer portal top 10, that would be such a crazy amount of money to waste when you could just become the yankees and watch people cry about it.
The change next year will be 10 regular saeason losses. A second round loss in the SEC tournament, followed by second round loss in the NCAA Tournament. Those will be the only differences from this season.

Oscar Tshiebwe, Kellan Grady, Toppin, Mintz, Wheeler, Fredrick, Brooks, Allen, Ware and Reeves were all older players. That didn't work either.
My concern remains X’s and O’s during games.

He wouldn't say it but Cal considers this a successful year in many ways. Look how many UK NBA All stars this year and he will put 5 to 6 more in the draft too. Meanwhile, the actual program has subpar organization, little accountability and poor protocol by most accounts. A lot needs to change, not just Cal.
I don’t see Cal changing much. He’s not been the same since COVID. He always has a damn excuse to get away with things, and I can tell you now, saying you have a bunch a freshmen is NOT an excuse for losing to Oakland in the first round, you have a SUPER TALENTED team with HIGH LEVEL players, including freshmen. Cal has another top recruiting class coming, so if he ends losing again early in March, what will be his excuse now? Bc the one and dines are NOT working at this time and age in basketball
People have to realize that Cal hasn't had the level of talent he is accustomed to getting. Even this year's class with Rob and DJ, and Justin Edwards and Aaron Bradshaw, although talented, their not at the level that some of cals best teams. That's just a fact. Cal can still win in modern college basketball, he just has to land those type of guys. Players like Anthony Davis, KAT, Daaron Fox, Tyrese maxey, John wall, those type of players. DJ Wagner isn't on that level, Justin Edwards isn't on that level, their talented but not those high level 5 stars. Plus there are more factors today as well with social media and NIL and the transfer portal etc, that young players are easily distracted. Duke next year has that type of player in cooper flagg, Cal hasn't had one since Shaedon sharpe and Shaedon didn't play. So Cal needs to stick with what he has been doing but just supplement more and keep some of these lower level 5 stars around for a second season. The class he has next year I think is better than this one was, although they don't have a Rob Dillingham type, they have more physicality and shooting as well. He needs to start coaching these kids to play for the name on the front, and go back to how he was 10 years ago. He had the success he had by coaching these kids up and having them buy in..and winning games. When his teams won games they went to the NBA. His best teams had #1 draft picks and multiple first round draft picks. These kids have to realize that if they win, their chances of being drafted are alot higher.

@@WilliamBeamon-dm2tv don't agree with none of this none sense. This is one of the most talented teams I've seen at Kentucky without a doubt. Cal just can't coach. Bruh we avg 87 ppg smh, and we did that basically running no offense. Cals problem was an embarrassment of riches. He was confused as a coach, he didnt know which lineup to play or how to use the players at all. I remember back in the day, if the starting lineup wasn't playing right, tubby smith would yank every person in the starting lineup out and put in the walkons until the starters got the message. Bruh relys to much on talent and when that doesn't work, he's not a good in game coach. Dude is ridiculously stubborn. Look at this tournament, not one team I've seen with as much talent as Kentucky, it's not close smh. I've seen so many missed layups and freethrows this whole product is a mess smh. Should have been a layup championship for Kentucky.
No no other head coach in division 1 history has had more talent and then less with it than John Calipari.
Myth. Cal's final fours are mostly 4 seeds, 8 seeds, jank teams with NIT losing leftovers from the Billy G era. Cal does way more with less than any other coach. The problem is just the last few classes have no talent. Best guy at UK in years and years has been Oscar, an NIT loser from WV whose coach didn't want him anymore and who went completely undrafted and still can't crack an NBA roster to this day. Look at national level "best" players in the NCAA, dudes throwing millions at guys like Dickinson who never won anything to begin with and also got sent packing first weekend, believe that's 4 first weekend exits in 5 postseasons for Self and no one utters a peep, even though he had more talent and spent more for it and also cheated.
The one and dones needs to be replaced with players that are dedicated to the program

It's a god awful way to build a program. A top ten recruit hasn't won a national title in their freshman year since the 2014 high school class and even before super seniors became a thing, North Carolina, Virginia and Villanova all won titles from 2016-2019 with veteran rosters pre-Covid
you could five Cal a college all star team and he’s not winning 30 games or making it out of the first weekend at this point. He’s just done. It is what it is.

I just think he needs more physicality. The players looked so much smaller body definition wise TN looked like grown men playing boys. Tournament starts gets more physical

And go where? He has endless resources at his fingertips and can’t muster a final four in the last decade. If/when he leaves Kentucky, he will be damaged goods. No college is going to pay him 9 mill a year to recruit and lose. The NBA isn’t going to touch him either.

The dude was in the news like last season begging for a practice facility where the roof doesn't leak in the rain, and the fan base had a Jan 6 riot over it and gave all the money to their loser football program. Absolute joke saying Kentucky basketball gets resources, Mitch is starving them out on purpose because he thinks he can build a football school when he can't.
coach cal has made kentucky the laughing stock of collage basketball, and the AD is too the blame.
