    Just have to say a big thanks for your videos. Love the detail you go into. Just detailed my new 70 plate car using the advice I gained from your videos and it looks stunning. It’s crazy the amount of contamination embedded in the paintwork from a new car. The Autoglym magma really shocked me how contaminated the paint was. Car looks mint and a lot better than when I collected it a few days ago and have to thank you for the help. Cheers!

    Greetings and congrats from the Land of Maple Syrup for another fine vid Jon! I agree 100% with you that the best way to look after your new car after prepping it properly for its maiden usage, is to KEEP UP WITH IT with frequent "LIGHT" washes rather than falling behind and having to do major work on it every so often, when it "needs" it : ) This is especially critical when your car will be subjected to TRULY unfriendly weather (like here in Canada, what with snow and wet slush) and temperature changes. Happy detailing (AND WASHING) everyone! : )

    Hi there ! My brand new white Evoque arrived with LOTS of contamination dots and I will have to use Iron X, maybe twice, and probably clay it afterwards...
    After that... how BAD is it if I don't purchase a polisher ? I have no garage, there's a lot of wind and dust here in the coutryside, and it is rainy season... That is really a no go zone. Can I still use a sealant afterwards ? (was thinking Sonax spray and seal).
    Thanks Jon, love your channel ;o)

      What do you feel about it, I know nothing about it, I google it now? 50 dollars for 32 oz of wheel cleaner. 8oz product per gallon. So you get 4 gallons. Im not sure on US prices but in the UK you can get 1 litre of foaming wheel cleaner concentrate for around 8-9 pounds (and thats from companies that dont manufacture but have strong reputations and have been in the trade for decades). Find a good brand that manufacture and you will be able to get a non caustic foaming wheel cleaner concentrate for even less. So what do you need me to tell you about this product? I could not review it without saying that theres a nice margin being made on the product there, someone is cracking open a beer everytime a bottle of that stuff sells for sure. there are no chems you would blend into a wheel cleaner that could ever justify a price tag like that. in fact the bottle, label and lid cost more than the chems.
      you dont need me to review this product, what you need to do is always look at the price tag first and see if its viable and then compare options, if in doubt ask on detailing FB groups or forums and you will get an honest answer and always ask for alternative options to the product your asking about from established brands that have good reputations.

    On a new car, the iron fall out comes when the car is transported by train from the factory to the port. Lots of freight trains have cast iron brake shoes that act on the tread of the train wheels. When the train brakes, all those hot iron particles get blown over the cars. That also explains why railway car parks are a no-no in that respect. Hope that helps.

    From a safety and vision stand point I'd say sealing the glass is an integral part of the new car detail Jon.
    Going from my little abarth which had everything done to the A45 when it hasn't been maintained to the same level, it's way more difficult to see out the side glass and the mirrors when it's raining. Need some decent weather to get them all sealed pronto!

    Jon, about a year ago you said in your ceramic coating video they weren't really for you as you like to give your car a maintenance detail and give it a going over with a finishing polish to top up the gloss and things. You've changed your mind?
    By the way, when I got my car new back in May 2017 I told the dealer to leave it alone expecting him to think I was a bit weird but he was fine with it and said it's an increasingly common request. Was quite grubby and found some scratches on the inner door sill from where bloke with dirty shoes must have got out when moving it from the compound but they polished out alright.
    2 months later I got a nice little dent and chip on my door from the gardeners round here launching a stone from their mower or strimmer which I had to pay to sort. A month after that this idiot reversed into my car cracking my front grille which again I had to pay for. Also had 2 punctures in the same tyre, one needed new tyre then the next was repaired but the tyre fitter butchered my wheel. I'm just waiting for someone to key it or something now. Touch wood it doesn't happen.
    Anyway, I've gone on a bit but getting a brand new car isn't always as good as you think it's going to be. You tend to worry about it more and stress over every little bit of damage. Well I do anyway. Sometimes I think it'd be easier just to have an old car I don't give a crap about lol. The only time I'm happy with the new car is when I'm behind the wheel of it.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 5 lety +5

      your so right rich. you get over paranoid. or you just want it to stay perfect and reality is it doesnt. no matter how carefull you are the front of the car is gonna get smacked up with stone chips for example. I think an element of the whole detailing thing is not real, its like a dream of perfection that does not exist. but the good news is each individual can just take it as far as they want. the best way is to just enjoy owning the car, driving it. keeping it decent. and enjoy the process of detailing it as much as you can. and enjoy exploring products as well perhaps.
      ceramics. long discussion this... some things will be cool but its gonna be a pain in the ass to apply it. hoping it really holds up well and makes cleaning it a lot easier.. who knows.. like I say Ive not even polish the red peril in like over 6 months of ownership and I dont clean it that often, but if you watch the channel you would think Im a nutcase that sits there detailing his car constantly :) more a nutcase thats reviewing detailing products when he should be cleaning his car. gonna try and scale that product stuff down next year.

      @@ForensicDetailing yep, you have to tell yourself it's a daily driver, not a show car that only comes out at nice weekends in the summer. Also try to tell myself despite the few issues my car still looks better than 98% of other cars on the road. I blow up the issues in my head too much. I need to relax a bit more. But like today I drove round Sainsbury's car park for like 10 minutes looking for a space I was comfortable parking in lol. Sometimes when you think you've found a good space you'll come back and there will be a bloody 4x4 parked right next to you. Can't win sometimes.

      its a real problem. but best solution just wont come from a product. It will come from shading the car from the sun. a product could help but it aint gonna help that much if the sun is beating down on your car 12 hours a day 250 days a year with the sort of heat you get in grease. that will just bake the crap out of anything and the UV will toast it out.

      and totally i agree with your prospectieve.
      And i also think that a huge enemy for interiors is not only the uv light from the sun, while the car is in direct sunlight but also ...the.enormus temperatures that can build up inside a car witch is exposed to direct sun!!!!!!!!
      I think huge temperaturrs inside a car this is also a main reason why car interiors especially in a country like mine are fading.

      @@Larryloafer488 the market now has gone hydrophobic crazy so most fabric guards are going the way of being "water repellent" however protection fabric from staining is more about repelling water base/carried contaminants. so for example a hydrophobic fabric sealant will make awesome detailing porn shots of water bouncing off the fabric, that stuff gets people juices flowing and they buy it. will work as well say if you spill black current juice it will repell it.
      but perhaps you want a fabric sealant thats been developed not to be just hydrophobic, but resist oils and soiling etc... If you do check out the one from angelwax. I cant remember its name but its decent and well priced (its not hydrophobic though)

    Thats really interesting you don't use glass protectant. I find it makes glass easier to clean and also I would argue it DOES protect the glass for the fact that I can use the wipers much much less and therefore the abrasive wiping of the blades do not damage the glass (I have had old windscreens where you can see where the wipers wipe from years of use). Also the glass has some self cleaning capability, the rain cleans the screen without even needing to use the wipers. Perhaps it makes for a good video, do a 5050 screen and compare how they perform and what the driving experience is like in light and heavy rain etc...

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 5 lety +1

      Ive found a few things with most of them I dont like. they can look awesome in videos where you just see water running and beading etc.. reality of them is different though. They are problematic to apply. even though they are invisable if you even get condensation on the outside of the glass (normally its gonna be inside of course) but when its on the outside you can see like where its been applied (specially with ceramics). they can cause issues with wiper judder. they can cause ghosting. they are a pain in the ass to remove. And the blades abrase them off pretty rapidly. someone made a good comment about them stopping the annoying chemical stain etching spots in the glass from like detergents from the wiperwash drying on the glass. dunno. depends how into all this you are. cars are not things that should stay like miraculously clean and although its cool to maintain them well, the key to doing that comes less from protective products than perhaps the industry might want us to think. Its all down to personal preference though. the M140 I dont use any dressings on the inside I dont have anything on the glass. ceramics on the exterior trim was a surprise winner for me (especially the arches). paintwork gonna be down to personal preference really. key thing is enjoy driving the car as much if not more than maintaining it for me. glass protection is a step to far for me although maybe a product will come along that changes my opinion on that one day. best Ive seen so far is H2Go and hydrology.

    • @richardhurr31
      @richardhurr31 Před 5 lety

      I'm on the fence about glass sealants. I'm getting tempted to give HDD Hydrology a go though as it's got rave reviews and apparently nobody's reported any wiper judder using it.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 5 lety

      @@richardhurr31 Ive side by sided HDD with H2GO. they are similiar performaing products. both are like crystal clear. once the glass is properly clean and degreased then go on well. dont use to much try and spread out small amounts like you do with a wax. And like Ive also found leaving them longer than stated with the wipers up off the glass is a good idea. even these products though have been hit and miss for me with wiper judder and ghosting as I tried to use them more and more. First time I used them I had good results. on a different car I got really bad judder on good condition wiper blades for a couple of weeks. Ive managed to get both of them not to ghost, but if you use too much product or dont get the prep bang on you can get like a small white trail following the wiper blades. Other ones Ive tried though have literally made a mess of the glass. HDD and H2GO are prolly about as good as you are gonna get non ceramic wise I think. H2go is a about half the price of HDD i think. I might shoot a video on this but problem is my views on these products generally is a bit negative and others dont share my opinion so not sure if its a good vid to put out there.
