The ozone layer is actually healing itself atm dude, the hole over Antarctica is actually shrinking
Well, duuh. Solar radiation which is stronger at higher altitude, does exactly the same as an ozone generator, just at a grand scale. Once we stopped using clorinated fluoro-carbon gasses and other ozone reducers on a widespread scale the ozone layer is able to regenerate faster than it is broken down...
was thinking the same dangers of that ozone purifier when I saw. I worked in apartments and we would use an Ozone machine to help clear out all the dog/cat/smoker smells but we'd have to clear out immediately after turning it on because you'd feel your body get vacuumed sucked of all oxygen so you just couldn't be in there
Having worked with ozone before in the lab, i can say that embrittlement of elastomeres is an understatement. After just 20 min of low concentrated ozone contact a rubber stopper literally falls apart. I would not want to have that aside me in my car.
Must have been an extraordinarily high "low concentration" to cause that much damage in such a short amount of time. I use ozone generators in car interiors to sterilise and remove odours. I literally fill cars with it for 30-60min and there is no noticable degredation to interior plastics/rubber in that amount of time.
@@flammybino8523 Yeah i guess our low concentration is still super high for your application^^ which makes a lot of sense, since its so reactive/dangerous.

Might I suggest making a video about the safety rating for most super cars. I would love to see a video reviewing each million dollar super car or any of the sort showing how each handles different types of car accidents. The ozone layer is actually repairing since we got rid of CFC's it's a slow process and doesn't always progress fowards every year but the trend line is smaller
Ozone is produced by UV light.
It never was a problem.

I hope that during my life time I get to see donut replace the public school system🤣
Yeah, O3 (ozone) is pretty much the most reactive oxidizer I can think of besides basic Fluorine and ClF3
I was thinking the same. Imagine intake system, valve, and combustion chamber corrosion
You touched upon the embrittlement and degradation of elastomers bit, but as I was watching this I also had concerns about how aggressively the ozone could oxidize the internals of your engine, too. That elastomer embrittlement is directly because of ozone's extremely high oxidation potential. It quite literally destroys chemical bonds, left, right, and center, but it can also accelerate oxidation of metals like iron (rust) and copper (patina).
We need an Explosions and Fire collab with all this talk of ozone. Maybe Jeremiah can join the carbon tet gang.
Instead of using ozone in an engine, preferably use a water ethanol injection (Porsche uses this system in the GT2RS and even other manufacturers do)
Steam cleans your pistons too!
I've been using ozone on my saltwater reef tanks for years! Never thought about it on my car 🤔 interesting.
Some have already tried this, and it caused the engine to die, the heat in a small engine causes misfires and overheating. They contemplated that the heat generated from Ozone being broke down would likely just destroy the engine.
Keep to using Ozone to clean the car cabins. If you want power, build the engine properly , get a turbo or supercharger, there's no shortcuts in the longterm.
Be safe everyone.

Great AD boys ! love to see it
Not to mention ozone is extremely reactive with almost anything organic, hence why rubber seals break down on exposure to ozone. Storing ozone is half the battle. All of the piping, seals, and valves to get O3 to the engine is also a major issue, if a leak occurs inside the vehicle youre gonna have a bad time. Since ozone is so reactive with organics such as gasoline itself, ozone injection would most likely cause some serious engine knock and most likely break the block from serious overpressure. Ozone may even react with the motor oil on the sides of the cylinder walls at high enough temps. Theres a whole slew of problems with ozone as an oxidizer.
what about using it in the cold vacuum of deep space? when it degrades, it can just be supplied as regular oxygen and in emergency's you convert it to 03 as fuel
@@zeedstun891 The scariest risk in space is an internal fire. Ozone is just too good of an oxidiser and too unstable to justify using it. We use mild ozone generation in HVAC and refrigeration. We use the UV bulbs inside of residential air handlers to help kill mold, bacteria and viruses. Likewise, we use smaller UV bulbs in the restaurant service for ice bins to kill bacteria, slimes, molds, etc and keep ice fresh. Sometimes you can open up an ice bin and get that “lightening” smell since lightening also creates ozone.
There are more intense ozonators that use the electrical method Jeremiah mentioned. These can be found for exterminating ground bees and other insects where you put the ozonator under an aquarium that’s over a nest of yellow jackets. These types are also used in smoke/mold remediation in houses to eliminate odors, but are intense and designed for only short periods of time as they can kill you. Not designed for everyday household use.
Ozone in the sky is good, down here it creates smog and oxidizes things, hence why California has made them illegal.

Nitrous oxide is used because it can be liquefied so that it will only regasify after leaving the gas injection system, and this is important to avoid the system becoming too cold, and to cool down the air-fuel mixture and avoid detonation. To use pure oxygen gas injection, the compression ratio would have to be lowered, and the entire system would have to be heated. What I would do is to inject liquefied propane into the wet shot fogger together with the nitrous oxide, to lower intake temperature even more and avoid fuel condensation.
I hope you can make a video about stance i think it would be a very interesting content and besides it is also a big part of car culture good bless to your channel.

Yeah, I think he has a bachelor's in Mechanical engineering, and a masters in Biomedical engineering.
The expansion characteristic of hot nitrogen is very important in the process of pushing the piston down in the combustion process. which you would be without with the ozone injection.
True, however Nitrogen is an inert gas and inhibits the full combustion of a fuel. I think would expect that in an ozone combustion, more fuel would be converted into cabonic gasses and supplement the nitrogen for pressure expansion. Additionally, without nitrogen in the chamber, you would potentially need far less fuel for the same amount of power. Realistically, you’d probably detonate the fuel instead of burning it which would be the main problem, but it would release an insane amount of energy in the cylinder compared to air or N2O. I think this system could work well in a Diesel engine, just not a gas engine.
@@Matoro828 people played with oxygen injection way back in the day and it proved far to volitile. Think the technology exists today?
@@Matoro828 you bring up a good point. I will have to look more into what you have brought up because I admittedly don't know much about this ozone system. The heat I think would be a big issue with warping parts but also it could form hot spots which could cause pre-detonation kinda like what you had said.
@@frankrizzo2724 yea it’s interesting I think you are right in a sense: pure oxygen is probably too volatile for an ICE. Ozone is definitely far too volatile for one. But I think if you made an engine purpose built and tuned for it, it would work. I think it would have to be a turbine or a Diesel engine to handle the forces, and you would probably need to use titanium or tungsten plated components to withstand the heat. But, the potential is there for an engine with extreme power output. Even something as small as a 10% gain in the amount of chemical- energy released by ozone combustion would lead to an insane growth of power.
@@Matoro828 there was an article in hot rod magazine where these guys used pressurized air to create boost and per pound made a lot more power than turbo or supercharger due to cold inlet temps and lack of pumping losses associated with compressing the air. You should also look up the turbonique drag axle from the 60's. It's literally a turbine engine attached to the ring and pinion. Most people never heard of it. It was insane.

They are known for different advantages and problems and I think a breakdown of what is different (better and worse (or neutral)) between all of them. What makes them unique/desirable? Anyhow, thanks for your work! See you next time!
3:52 Piston speed actually has very little to do with it. The equation presented, E=0.5mv^2 is for the kinetic energy of an object and pretty much irrelevant to the power the engine makes. The relevant equation is E=Fd, where F is force and d is the distance the force is applied. When more energy is released, the cylinder reaches a higher pressure, which increases the force on the piston. Increasing the force is what increases the energy per stroke.
@@PADOYLELittle do you know I have read a great deal about it. Can you explain how exactly nitrous increases piston speed without affecting max rpm? If piston speed is the cause of increased power then the engine should make the same power at the same rpm with or without nitrous.

This is crazy as hell that this episode even came about, a few months ago I was actually working on an engineering study about an ozone generator designed to auto replenish tanks inside of a car.
There are quite a few issues with this that I can see. 1. Ozone is very toxic and reactive 2. It’s unstable in any amount usable for this purpose and is likely to just decompose into oxygen after a short period of time(at which point a pure oxygen tank would be better) 3. The tank system for this would be not that much different from NOS. I just can’t see this being all that viable. And also, there are plenty of other oxidizers than Oxygen.
fun fact we use ozone generators for cleaning and sterilizing wine tanks. didn't think they were that hard get ahold of also are quite large units. they were a lot of maintenance and upkeep. rebuilt quite a few.
Just do watermeth injection. It gives you more oxygen by lowering the temperature, give you more fuel through methanol, cleans your engine intake, and lower emission through lower exhaust temp! Perfect solution.

Bore the cylinder chamber, lighten some of the engine parts and improve the airflow for the intake.

Day 52 of asking donut media to do a up to speed on the oil crisis
There used to be some research into using liquid ozone instead of liquid diatomic oxygen as the oxidizer used in rocket engines. Because ozone is denser it will need smaller tanks to be stored and less volumetric flow rate to make the same power in the engine and to keep a rocket engine going. However there were some challenges that ultimately prevented common use of liquid ozone in rockets. The biggest problem being liquid ozone will explosively decompose into diatomic oxygen if hit with a hammer, or looked at the wrong way. Makes it pretty dangerous to pump or to store at all. It's also obviously a very good oxidizer and reacts with a lot of things violently.

Is there a way to generate ozone catalytically from hot compressed air? Because if there is, one could hypothetically stick a thing before or instead of intercooler to gain more power.

Ozone is wicked awesome at breaking down organics on contact. Great for wastewater and water treatment. It has potential to be used in new applications but we would have to master it's rapid creation and be able to store it to some degree
We aren't just gonna have big Jacob's Ladders or arc gaps making that stuff
