I solved a friend's Vortex, so I bought my own. But then I couldn't solve it! After watching this video to be sure, It turns out the AY piece wasn't shaved correctly. I hate to say that you have to shave a piece of metal to solve a puzzle, but I had his side by side with mine, and a time when a head slid through a notch, his worked smoothly (with just the right twist and rocking), but mine just would NOT go through. So this video calmed my sanity to show me exactly what was wrong with my puzzle. Thank you.

Most of the comments were posted by ignorant people. Your video is actually perfectly clear. I don't know what others expect, this is a real life object with moving pieces and you did great with your camera shots.
Took me a while to get it apart without the video, getting it back together was another thing. Video was a great help, all except the last step which I see some people have complained about. Parts were confusing and I definitely cursed the uploader as a wizard. Reversing it to the previous step and interpreting the directions differently quite a few times, though endlessly frustrating, DID work eventually. This was way harder than the enigma puzzle considering all the pieces look exactly the same.
This is the fourth tutorial Ive used for reassembly. I was able to solve on my own but reassembly was a pain. I was able to put it back together in about 10 minutes after watching the 2nd half of this video
This video was very helpful. I had to take the puzzle completely apart and just work with the vortex piece and the hanayama piece to figure out the mechanics on the very last step to get it back together. Once I did that it was so much easier. Thanks a ton. it was driving me crazy I played with it for hours before I could get it back together.
oh thank you SO MUCH i got one as a present and i find those kind of puzzles really frustrating. especially when you have so little visual reference of how you can move them and if you are even going the right way. this really removed a stress factor from my life!
my gf got this puzzle and started to take it apart, but she got stuck and gave up... then she gave it to me, and i took it apart in about 1 min. she couldnt believe it, but i guess she had done the hardest part aleady haha.. after completely taking it apart, i thought i would try putting it back together, but then i realised i had no idea what it looked like at the beginning! that was very painful, i must say..but the first 1minute of this video was all i needed to re-asemble it. many thanks

634941 code Okay, so with regards to the LAST STEP. "The head of the vortex piece is going to go into the hanayama piece". This statement is WRONG and is the confusion behind the explanation of the final step! What he means to say is, "The hanayama piece is going to go into the Head of the Vortex piece!" Yes there is a grove on the hanayama piece that slips into the center (head) of the vortex piece. Once his is accomplished the puzzle literally falls into place. Great video I overall though, thank you.

after about 12 hours of watching and re-watching and pausing this video, I have successfully disassemble and put back together, this puzzle. Putting it back is definitely harder, and I will probably keep doing it until I master the puzzle and defeat Pinhead. Thank you Prophet dlwroe, for the enlightenment

I'm glad that you got it done! There are some things that I have given up on, but the fun for me is the challenge. I just mess around with it for a little while and eventually I get it apart. Otherwise when my wife is using the computer I figure them out and then just do it a bunch of times to memorize what I did. I couldnt figure out the hanayama News though.

infuriating and disturbing !!!... but great of course. have disengaged it without aid, but getting back together is really twisting my noodle ;) currently stuck on building it back together and keep getting stuck and having to start again, but cant disengage fully to begin again with a clear head... an amazingly well crafted puzzle... I WILL NOT BE BEATEN !!!!
Seems to be a lot of people struggling with the last step. dlwroe you made it look too easy :-) There are a couple of key positions to check for: 1. The vortex tail should be placed in the loop of A.Y. after it's taken out of the Hanayama loop. 2. The A.Y. bump (about half way along the piece, like the middle of a wishbone), should be resting lightly on the top side of the h'yama piece). 3. Lead vortex from tail while moving the loop on to the groove of the h'yama piece and you should be fine.
FYI for some people having trouble completeing the moves, the casting process is sometimes a little bit off and the correct moves can require a bit of force, if your 100% sure you have the correct move then apply pressure. either it will "pop" and do whats its suppsoed to or it will just not go
The vortex head piece is the smallest loop. It's like the eye of a needle. However, there is a small gap in the head piece. That gap in the vortex piece is what you want to pass through the notch in the hanayama piece. The notch is about half way up the hanayama piece.
oh man, it's been 5+ years since this came out? I remember playing with it and solving it at the end (being unable to put them together) like it was yesterday...

I have taken it apart and put it back together several times. I am very good at puzzles. I think mine needs to be filed or something because I have followed this video to the point where every move was perfectly lined up with how it was being done here. The first release of the vortex head from the hanayama is proving to be very difficult. I am beginning to question the quality of the mold or what ever method was used in producing this product. Like I said I solved the puzzle several times so I know what I am doing. There is no way that this person can operate the one that I have as smoothly as the one being used in this video without implementing some sort of modification to the parts. Every move is very tight and problematic no matter how much individual adjustment to each piece is applied. I will continue to practice for a few days to see if it is in fact my lack of perfect movement but I seriously doubt that I am doing anything wrong. If I am still having trouble after a few days of serious trial I am bringing it back and trying another one to see if there is a problem with quality control on these things.
Can you please make a follow up video on how to do the last part of putting it together again where you put the head of the vortex into the groove of the hanaya
@AmyVargas12 I bought this one in Korea when I was there, but you can get them in the states, I've seen them in the mall at game stores that sell board games and such.

I have a serious question. Someone at work brought one of these in, but the pieces are shaped a little differently. All of yours in the video have an opening, but only 2 of the ones at work have an opening. Have you ever seen a different version of the puzzle? Could this one be modified? The metal seems pretty sturdy and I haven't seen any tool marks on it. Plus I found a pdf of the solution which also shows the pieces as yours. What is you take on this?
i bought this one at a gamesworld shop here in australia. they have the whole collection. you can also order them off the internet i believe...if you cant find one let me know and ill send one for ya :p

@DaZeDmerlin Yeah I have the same problem with most of the puzzles that I've done...I can get them apart rather easily but putting them back together is a lot more difficult. It took me about 2 weeks to put back together and figure out how to do it repeatedly

@22Bubba221 Lol! Yeah, I got so frustrated with this one, even though its supposed to be a 5, I have solved 6's so much faster than this one. This is the only one I got so frustrated with that I went online to look up a solution and when I found that there wasnt one at the time I looked I was determined all the more to find a solution and post it. I can get my puzzle to the 4:35 mark, but no matter what I do, I can't get the next step to work.. There is simply no place for the head of the vortex to go while trying to move the tail into the other gap.
i really don't know how they class this as a level 5 it shud be a level 6 plus it took me about 20 hours over about 2 weeks to undo and put back together thats with the video great little puzzle as are all the hanayama but they do seem to get all there levelling ratings wrong :-)

After solving this, it was annoying to have to keep looking at the detailed notes I made. I therefore offer the following mnemonics: Linking the first linear chain: Alex Van Halen Linking the chain into a circle: AH! I then tried following this video....yeah, I think I’ve gotten it to a point where it can’t be solved or something. I honestly think I’m going to take the loss on this one.
I’ve been trying for 15 minutes to get this thing back together...whatever you did at 5:11 or so isn’t possible (for me). I even get close to it remotely and I undo the previous steps. This is just frustrating now. I’m so close to throwing this stupid thing in the trash.

The first thing to solving this puzzle is to clear your throat and have a glass of water nearby. So bloody annoying !

i can not see past your fingers for one of the parts soo i gave up.
Rotate the piece so that the "nob" is out of the way, then you can disengage it. Take it step by step, pause the video and do it. Let me know. ~D~
