  • Stephanie Castro's short documentary about the Wolfson Archives and moving image preservation features interviews with Patricia San Pedro, Alfred Spellman and Lou Kramer -- and it's a reminder that the Archives are open to students! Whether you're studying media production, history, film and TV technology or any number of subjects, we have film and video that you can incorporate into a documentary or use for basic research. Go to wolfsonapps.org/search/ and take a look!
Stephanie's film was completed as her final project in a documentary production class at the University of Miami.

I am glad we have the Wolfson collection of film and videotape collection showing us how Florida and Miami were more than 90 years ago! Thank you for presenting this historical legacy!

I hope Wolfson has made backups of their backups -
Storage media fails all of the time, and history is too precious to lose!!!
I remember when Wolfson Campus broadcast things on CABLE-T.A.P. in the 1990s, I miss that so much!!!

Standard archival practice is to have storage redundancy, so, yes, we have backups. They are also in different geographic locations. Plus, we keep our materials even after digitization--another standard archival practice. If something has happened to a digital file (corruption, bit rot, etc.), we can go back to the original film or videotape and digitize it again.

      That's wonderful!
I'm still in the process of digitizing my old tapes -
But I wish that DVD recorders were still available in stores!
      They are too expensive online!
I wish there was a good way to convert audio cassettes to MP3 or so ...
It seems like you have to turn the volume up so high in order to get a proper sound file ...
      UUUUGGGHHHH ...
I completely respect the whole process of archiving things!
      Thank you!
