  • Rutgers University says the chancellor of its Newark campus has apologized over video that surfaced showing her yelling at campus cops investigating a fender-bender earlier this year.
Nancy Cantor was caught on camera shouting, "I'm the chancellor!" and "If I miss my plane you folks are in trouble!" as campus police investigated an accident involving her driver and a parked police vehicle back in March.
Rutgers said Monday that Cantor apologized after watching the police video of the incident, which was obtained by NJ Advance Media. The school also said the officers involved appreciated Cantor's apology.
The officers stayed calm throughout the incident. They repeatedly told Cantor and her staff that they couldn't let her car leave until they gathered details of the accident and got approval from their superiors.
Cantor and her car and driver were eventually allowed to leave for Newark Liberty International Airport. No tickets were issued.

The officers were following procedures MANDATED by the university. But then, obviously, the chancellor is above any rules and regulations of the university. And we say young people feel entitled. Rigid reporting requirements happen everywhere in government (Rutgers is a public university) where people operate government owned vehicles.
No one bothers reporting little dings and the scale grows until the organization works out a solution with the union which is to make reporting it into a really big deal for every mishap without exception- big deal as in time off without pay for failure to report any mishap.
The cop had no choice and any administrator should know this.
    But, as her aide/friend said-
"When you have somebody like this, you call and you say 'What should we do? Do we follow normal protocol or should we do something else?' That's what you should have done."

Apologies are not enough. They are in the position and they obviously acted so entitled. To think they are old women...matured enough to know the difference.

She, as chancellor, needs to be held under MORE scrutiny because of her position. Same with all politicians. You don’t get more leeway, YOU GET LESS. That’s the point. You’re a leader, and you have the possibility of corruption, so it’s YOUR DUTY to show that the law, your policies, and your interactions are above board.
We put you in charge because you’re a model citizen, act like it.

It doesn't matter who you are mini lady!
You are under the law and subject to penalties and sentences like anyone else!
It's so pathetic how people step up on a title to intimidate others in attempt to get immunity and privileges that are unlawful.
Arrogance exposed on CZcams for life!

That's borderline. The officers are still the ones on charge of the scene and she's mostly nagging and complaining. That would be like telling a cop during a traffic stop that if he makes you late for work, he's in trouble. There's DA/prosecutor who decides whether it's criminal.

The student at the end will be just like the chancellor in the future thinking she can not be stop for procedure because she had a flight. Then get into another car but allow the officers to do their job. I can already see that girl at the end violating people and doing the same things in the future if you give her a little power and position. SMH Great way to set the tone of students which will be in powerful positions in the future. How crazy are those ladies also " THE PRESIDENT OF USA" is the same as the Chancellor LOL Damn they are on a power trip, even the assistance think they are above it all and equal to the president.

In a minor accident if no injury police is not going to be involved in such matter. I think the campus police just let her go and be happy. Why such a big fuss.
