What a silly idea for a video!
#poppyplaytime #gartenofbanban #rainbowfriends #videoessay
Hey, I know this is months later, but I want to leave this comment, since I honestly really regret how I went about this video. I wonât be going over any explicit errors with it, I have another comment about that, but more so how my opinions have changed. Iâll go over each of the three games and talk about anything I got wrong
Poppy Playtime: Yeah, I honestly just regret including this one in general. While the few people at the very top of MOB Games are not great people, that doesnât account for most people. A large majority are just innocent game devs who worked on a game, and I think shunning it simply because of those few people who suck is dumb. Honestly, I probably will be playing chapter 3 when it comes out, and if you want to, then go ahead. Sure some money goes to the crappy people, but more of it goes to the people who actually worked hard, and I think thatâs worth it.
Rainbow Friends: Luckily the other two games I talked about I still mostly hold the same opinion on. I still believe Rainbow Friends is a very boring game, but there are a few things I said that I regret. First off, I very much am sorry for constantly insinuating that Roblox horror games couldnât be good. I was very uneducated on Roblox in general, so I just kind of assumed that they all sucked and Doors was a lucky exception. Well Iâve actually done more research, and while I still consider Doors to be the best one, at this point itâs clear that Roblox is possible of making some stellar horror games, Rainbow Friends just isnât one. Also very minor point but I kind of love the character designs in this game. Objectively theyâre probably bad, but honestly theyâre so goofy I canât help but love them. Finally last point, yes I have played Rainbow Friends chapter 2, and yes it is much better than the first, not a perfect game but I would recommend it if you wanna play it.
Garten Of Banban: What is there to say on this game that hasnât already been said? While I was correct in practically everything I said, I also regret putting this in the video. It and my GOBB2 video permanently made me just the Euphoric Brothers guy, and I donât want to be that. I donât care about them anymore.
Overall, while I stand by a lot of what I said, this video will forever be a stain on my channel. Defining me as a creator when I even though it doesnât accurately do so. If you watched this video and thought it was even alright, I would recommend you watch my newest one, as I put a lot more effort into that one. If you donât, thats fine, I totally get if this topic is the only one of mine that interests you, I just thought I would mention it. I hope you guys all have a good day, and Iâll see you soon. Goodbye (And thanks for reading this far)
i agree but at least poppy is realy good and poppy playtime chapter 2 is very scary very it dose alot right and rabow freinds you cant be mad at there working with what rolblox gave them doors was made by some one who know how to program rainbow freinds probily did not know how to so give him a brake garten i agree but it is fun but poppy is good it dose have a lot of good and is made far past nomal game grathics and is scary poppy play time chapter 2 running from mommy is creepy
@@discipleministrries8229 none of these games are scary in the slightest, they are all cringe, unoriginal and honestly boring, They might have some qualitites but overall they suck as horror games
no, you shouldn't regret making this video, you are right, these games indeed kinda sucks, especially garten of banban, and your criticisms are quite on point and polite, These games might have some good qualities in them, but overall, they don't stand out as good games or horror games
Roblox games CAN be good as you say, it's indeed very true, but your point still stands as MOST of the sucks, the majority of them have a poor quality standard and "well-made" is something pretty rare, so setting your expectation on the floor actually does make sense.

I don't want to see anyone giving Rainbow Friends any slack, just because it's on Roblox doesn't mean that you can defend it. Doors shows that Roblox games can compete with Steam games.
Edit: Chapter 2 is actually quite enjoyable.
100% agree, Roblox has so much potential as a game engine that rarely gets used
Ye
Also btw Rainbow Friends probably isn't getting a chapter 2. It's developer has a history of making games that get really popular, and then abandoning ship and never updating them. (Spider)

I once saw two kids that were about four or five years old that had poppy playtime plushies. They probably donât even know that those were based off of a horror video game.
When I was working at a nursery last summer, I saw a kid drawing huggy wuggy
On the topics of plushies, itâs kind of annoying how many ripoffs there areâŠ. Almost every fair Iâve gone to recently at LEAST has those ripoff Huggy WuggiesâŠ.

Bro, I work at a secondhand clothing store and the other day we apparently stocked some bootleg huggy wuggy plushies. In a secondhand clothing store!!!
I wouldn't put Andy's Apple Farm into the same category as Poppy Playtime, Rainbow friends and Banban. Sure, it does have recognizable character designs, but it takes inspiration from the analog horror genre, mainly The Walten Files. It also has some genuinely disturbing moments and utilizing its simplistic arcade game artstyle, it's not afraid to show stuff. Also its plot is pretty straight forward.
its literally just walten files with the names changed lol
It's actually really good
Its mascot horror but edgy, but still pretty well done in designs
so many good horror games come out but there sadly always overlooked by the bad horror games like, "hello nieghbor 2 comes out." Litrally everyone: OMG GARTEN OF BANBAN IS SOOO GOOOD!!!!
yeah it is far more disturbing than I thought it'd be, I got major Buddy Simulator 1984 vibes (if you know that game)
For me, the main aspect of Mascot Horror that always grabbed my attention was the concept of taking elements of our childhood and twisting them into nightmares that expose the potential dangers of childrenâs entertainment. FNAF gave us a morbid display of body horror as innocent lives were taken for the sake of corporate greed; and Bendy displayed a cautionary tale of an artist losing sight of why he originally wanted to make cartoons as business inevitably grew and corners had to be cut. With these newer games, the horror is only skin-deep, choosing to pander to the current generation of kids instead of the gamers who would understand the subversion.
Side Note: Thereâs an old PS2 game based on an anime I love called Gregory Horror Show. It predates the trend of Mascot Horror (being released 11-12 whole years before FNAF), but the deceptively cartoony style and dark-comedic tone make me think it would fit right in with the genre. Physical copies are pretty rare to get a hold of, but there is an emulated version you can play. Basically imagine a three-way fusion between Luigiâs Mansion, Animal Crossing, and Clock Tower.

I think the problem with people complaining about the characters about poppy playtime is that the characters look marketable
And I think thatâs pretty much the point, here to give you a reminder that even though they are flesh monsters hiding as mascots.
They are toys from a toy factory, so I think thatâs the point of poppy playtime characters.
But I agree with the rest of the mascot horror games critics saying that the characters were made to be marketable.
But I still agree with the rest of the flaws with the characters
@epicdude âINSERT LORE OF GARTEN OF BANBAN LOREâ
Yeah but I get the only reason they made poppy playtime in a toy factory setting is so they can literally justify making them into merch, like it's pretty obvious a huge chunk of that game is just them wanting to sell merch dude đ§ââïž
â@@headphonesdawgI mean most characters are memorable thats why theyre iconic but atleast poppy playtime has like more then 1 detail while Badbad and rainbow friends are just only colour face accessory that's it
I donât think that Scott Cawthon originally intended to target FNAF towards children. Before he made FNAF his small indie game (chipper and friends.) was made fun of for the characters looking like the nightmare fuel animatronics you see at a pizzeria. This beat Scott down and he decided to create one more game before he was going to give up. Which was FNAF because he actually used the ideas of uncanny animatronics. I donât think Scott was thinking about making FNAF a childrenâs game especially because the game had some pretty dark lore about missing children and those children being murdered. I donât think this whole time Scott was thinking about FNAF being for kids while he was making it. But steel wool DEFINITELY WAS!! You can easily see how security breach is targeted towards kids but I donât think the OG FNAF was targeted towards kids.
I say sb is at the very least 12+
@@goonking420 but the characters and environment looks very bright and colorful. And it just overall looks like a childrenâs horror game.
Scott still had quite a hand in making Security Breach, despite what people say, but I get what youâre saying. Books like Tales from the Pizzaplex tho get pretty darn dark though, HAPPS in particular surprised me at how brutal they went with things. I think there is still hope for FNAF, and at least for me I had fun playing Security Breach. It wasnât scary to me but I still found charm and fun to be had with it.
fnaf wasnât intended to be directed towards kids, but it definitely ended up being appealing to them. most people in the peak of the fandom were young teens and kids. (iâm no exception)
luckily Ruin looks pretty good
If I were to make a mascot horror game I'd use the "Jeff" chapter from Half-Life: Alyx as inspiration. The chapter in question has you solve puzzles in several rooms while under constant threat of the title character (Jeff). He is a blind monster who chases every noise he hears.
The puzzles are designed to trick you into making noise at every possible turn. Oftentimes, you will know the solution to a puzzle, but you will need to make some noise to solve it. The rooms are small, so you will always know where Jeff is, or how close he is to you at all times. The mascot on its own isn't the only aspect, the level design is built around it and they interact beautifully.
Oh also if I made a mascot horror game I would not publish it with terrible code. That too.
I love how such a terrifying antagonist is named Jeff
Also.
TheMeatly has noted that Bendy will be mature for Bendy 3 which will give it better ways in handling its game.

something funny is that huggy wuggy is just so popular where I live, that every street seller with its stand has at least one color variation knock off of this thing, and (ofc) parents buy it cause their kids would cry if not but still want the og game censored when they actually discover where this thing came from
I feel that saying that most horror games being directed towards kids feels incorrect (at times) but I'm sure that's based on opinions. FNAF was never meant to be specificly directed towards kids but it ended up that way cuz kids discovered and became obsessed with it.

Yo, I just wanted to really quickly leave a comment correcting a few things I said that were incorrect, as well as refuting a few points Iâve seen brought up in the comments.
1. Iâm not sure why I decided to mention Andyâs Apple Farm, thinking about it now I wouldnât really consider it mascot horror, itâs much more analogue horror.
2. As some commenters have told me, apparently in Rainbow Friends thereâs a feature where if youâve been holding an item too long, it will teleport it out of your inventory, getting rid of the softlock issue I mentioned. Iâm not entirely sure how long it takes, since I swear there was a person that stood still with an item for like 5 minutes straight, but sorry I missed that.
3. I kind of brushed over it in the video, but the issues with EnchantedMob go a lot deeper than I originally thought, I would recommend this video by Daggz if you want to learn more about it.

4. Iâve seen a lot of comments saying something like âI canât believe he forgot *insert game I mentioned*â If you havenât seen to the end of the video, please donât comment saying I forgot something.
5. No, just because Poppy Playtime has the occasional blood splatter does not mean itâs not for kids.
6. Apparently Iâm dumb, Rainbow Friends Chapter 2 isnât actually a real thing. I donât know how I messed this up, I guess I just saw a thumbnail that said âOfficial Trailerâ and didnât think to do more research. My bad.
(EDIT) Ok apparently months later now Rainbow Friends 2 IS a thing, so I take back my apology.

The consumers just need to stop buying into low quality stuff. Don't give the devs their dollar bills, and either they'll get the hint and produce quality content or go bankrupt.
The complicated thing about the "is Poppy Playtime meant for kids" debate is that it kinda depends on how you look at it..? Like- it is definitely more graphic than a lot of mascot horror (although that's an incredibly low bar considering most mascot horror has like. zero blood or gore at all) but more importantly, the story feels pretty damn dark?? A lot of it is speculative but especially with some theories around chapter 3, it feels like the subject matter is way too dark for kids. 12 year olds, early teenagers, yeah sure it's probably appropriate for kids in that early adolescent phase, but it's nowhere near appropriate for little kids - it's very much a PG-13 kinda game. But at the same time, in a lot of ways it feels like that younger audience what the devs are marketing towards? It's hard to tell with how the premise of the game relies on the misdirection of "kid friendly thing gone very wrong" but when kids as young as like 6 are playing with Poppy Playtime merch and having Poppy Playtime themed birthday parties, it rubs me the wrong way. Honestly if anything it feels like it might just be an irresponsible decision on the part of the developers which would be very much par for the course for them.
It really is complicated I mean Mommy long legs got shredded into pieces thats not really kid friendly
Then theres that hunging huntsman
The reason why your computer is freaking out when you boot up The Garten of Banban and OBS so much is because the models have WAYYY too many polygons, like THOUSONDS of polygons.
Ah yes. The million polygon spider
I feel as though poppy playtime did pretty well with the simple, yet bright monster design. You're taking an innocent toy and turning into this demonic looking thing. I think that's pretty cool as a horror concept. They are, however, very money hungry and definitely planned on using the designs as a cash grab.
So about the Roblox game Doors, itâs very obviously inspired by Spookyâs Jumpscare Mansion. Which despite the name, is actually a pretty cool horror game.
Spookyâs Jumpscare Mansion is actually my favorite horror game of all time! I plan to make a video on it soon.

Wait how do people like garbage like garden of banban
I still think Garten of BanBan is meant to be satire. The first Opila bird interaction is just a worse version of Huggy's arm thing in Poppy 1, and is genuinely hilarious when viewed as a parody of it. The death screen is literally just "f," again parodying Poppy's death messages. Heck, one of the texts on the walls says "Sharing is caring! Your pancreas is mine!" In no world does someone write that as a genuine statement, ever. The only mistake they made was the merch store being real, which I agree was pretty dumb, although I'd say the point of it was to just fully sell the parody, since if you were to click on it and it be a fake store, it'd sort of break the illusion in a sense. Maybe a better alternative would be to just not have the store button work at all, so it could still give the illusion of being a real game, and a poorly made one at that, without actually needing to have a real store.
just smth for u to know, if it takes too long for people to put away the collectibles, they will all be reset somewhere random, even if your holding something. Idk if the game got updated when I played it to have this feature tho cause it seems like you didn't have it in your game
I would split mascot horror into three categories:
The first category is for the games that are actually scary, like FNAF or Bendy and the Ink Machine.
The second category is for the games that donât really take themselves seriously, but are still scary or creepy like Poppy Playtime or Dark Deception.
The final category is for games that are barely even scary like Garten of Banban or Rainbow Friends.
Thatâs just my take on it. If anyone disagrees with me, thatâs fine.

I have something to say about horror as a whole. I am very easily scared, and donât like horror. But I LOVE FNaF because of the lore, which is confusing but thatâs what makes it fun. I love coming up with stories about already existing things, and the complexity of the FNaF lore makes it really easy to do that. In fact, I think FNaF has made me like horror, to an extent. I like that I get scared when I watch videos of it. I enjoy it BECAUSE I hate getting scared. Itâs fun to get scared when Iâm watching it because I am safe and itâs entertaining. When a horror game is not scary, it takes away all of the entertainment of the scary parts, and often the scary part of the horror game IS the horror game itself.
This guy is a hidden gem

Talking about Doors, I am a sucker for intentionally using a weaker software to make an art piece, especially when it turns out much better than anyone would expect. Door is the best game for that idea. It's clear there was a lot of love put into it, even if not all of it is perfect. It's clearly a passion project done by creative developers and I am wholeheartedly happy they did such a good job.
I think the main problem is everyone was rushing to be like FNAF and Bendy seeing how they had a big ass impact on everything from songs to fan games but barely anyone wanted to put in the time and effort to make a great series let alone game(thi there are some new Mascot Horror I like like Poppy Playtime Chapter 3 Bendy and The Dark Revival and Indigo Park)
As of now, Fnaf is probably the strongest and best Mascot horror game. It has a huge fan base, it has tons of merch and fans, itâs got a movie, and many other reasons. Fnaf isnât really for kids, but thatâs not the main point
Here's the thing about FNAF's lore, its not that vague if you go purely by the games. (ie: not the novels, which at times most fnaf fans dont entirely consider canon) They have a pretty cut and dry story and lore, but most youtubers go "hurdy durr vague lore!" as like a joke or something.
FNAF actually _tries_ to have a consistent story games wise, you can tell Scott Cawthon had a vision for what he wanted with his series, and that it was third parties that overcomplicated it.

However, I still hated anyone that thought, or even considered is wasnât good. I was in my own shell, not letting in anything else. Until I discovered doors. Doors opened me up into an entire new genre. And it made me realize, what was I doing? I never let anyone let me discover things better, and I never accepted criticism. Now, I try to have an open mind. And I think itâll help in the long run.
Poppy playtime chapter 3 is actually being planned to be a lot more freaky and scary then the first 2. They once said that they had an idea for chapter 3 that was going to make the game 18+....
Where did they say this? I canât find it anywhere.
@@froogy666 It was in their discord server, I don't remember the exact message but I remember it did mention chapter 3 being a lot darker than the first 2 chapters.
â@@3thousand4hundredN9teen ok now I'm curious âđ
May I request a video about these types of videos? Like I already knew everything you've talked about and yet I watched video from start to the end and kinda enjoyed it. Hundreds if not thousands of youtubers do videos on mascot horror right now, not adding anything new to the topic and that's kinda concerning.
Fullheartedly agree. But sometimes you need bad examples to make people realize, even in the indie-game genre.
Iâm happy that at least bendy improved with their sequel
I seriously will never be able to wrap my head around Roblox âhorrorâ itâs Roblox, itâs near impossible for it to be actually scary lmao.
wowzers!!đ€Łđ€Łđđ these games sure arent like the arcade ones I used to play back in the day!!đ đ đ
This ainât your grandpas Club Penguin!

Honestly, I couldn't agree with you more on Plompsty Plate Tim. The game itself looks cool (haven't played it tho cuz y'know. Not a gaming pc) but the controversies, especially the Ekercoaster harassment and the NFTs just really hurt the image of Mob Games. At least Meatly Games knew it would be best to cut ties with the more problematic benefactors, albeit after a series of issues already happened.
"the original fnaf" *shows fnaf 2*
I feel like before garden of ban ban mascot horror was recovering. We had games like amda the adventure and bendy and the dark revival. Which clearly had a lot of work put into them
Honestly Bendy and the Ink Machine actually is scare as at first theirs nothing your alone and then you find out NOW there's something that you need to run and hide.
How do you only have 370 subs thatâs literally only 20 more than me and you make content better than half the CZcamsrs on the platform
Someone for my Monopolyopoly YTP collab, which you can still enter. Had a part where it said âLetâs play Poppy.â
Jontron: NONONONONONONO-!
And that WILL be in the full collab
Yea good video. If anything, the atmosphere of garden of ban ban is a bit creepy with the kindergarten whatever and the characters, but that is being generous. If your game relies on the atmosphere without decent gameplay, that isnât that good. Also I have hated poppy playtime for a while now saying the game itself and the company is bad, to be honest the game itself probably isnât bad, itâs the company. I never played any of these so I donât know for sure but your narrative seems reliable. And on the fnaf note, it was never made for kids until debatably security breach, the description does say family friendly horror but that could just be the companies selling the game, could be wrong. But either way I think steel wool learned from their mistakes from making a mature storyline into a âfamily friendlyâ game with still the somewhat dark story, and the dlc seems to be a fix. So I wouldnât say itâs a kids game, itâs just complicated. But overall fnaf isnât for kids, kids can play it if they can handle it, but the story is dark as hell and I love it for that. And just cause it has merch doesnât mean for kids. Adults like plushies and figures too, but kids like them too. Honestly fnaf is truly special for not only being a solid game (security breach has problems but itâs not terrible, others are very good tho) but also a very wholesome, good developer. Only bad thing is potentially the money greedy merch companies and maybe illumix but thatâs not that bad, companies want money. Illumix and the merch companies could be worse but I like them. Just, expensive lol. Steel wool and Scott are not focused on the money. For example heâs trying to make the movie perfect. Wish he did the same for security breach lol
I miss games like pt, that game was ahead of its timeđ
P.T. Was too good for this world
Garten of Banban is AWESOME. Jumbo Josh owns you.
I feel like some a these horror games blow up because the target audience's standards have been lowered over the years. It's, y'know, it's a possibility.
This is also why children shouldn't be allowed online.
It leads to garbage like Mascot Horror existing and ruining opportunities for better games/devs.
We need Slendy to return
2:17 yes, yes i wanna own a plushie of that
in fact now i wanna make one
I never understood the hate for Bendy and the Ink Machine. I think that it is a good horror game like the first four FNAF.
I love mascot horror bro half of my childhood is loving bendy and Fnaf WILL THIS DARK AGE EVER END
I once saw my 5 1/2 cousin watching Rainbow Friends TikToks with Poppy Playtime plushies when we were stuck together on holiday in Finland.
Letâs just say, she was annoying and I was HEAVILY displeased when I found out she was also there when I went to Latvia.
I can almost promise you a brute from Amnesia plush exists somewhereâŠ
I know this video came out a long time ago but what is your view on amanda of the adventurer do you veiw it as a cheap horror game?? Just asking to see other views on a game
Havenât played it yet but based off what Iâve seen it looks pretty good. Most of the horror doesnât really seem to land but the puzzles seem pretty fun, plus I like the idea of a Dora inspired horror game
Also don't forget that there are other employees that have nothing to do with the buisness practices and drama
And fun fact some employees told the main owner that nfts will be a bad idea
I think the only people who ruined poppy playtime are the devs themselves. Unnecessary merch, sequels, and even movie adaptation really disappointed the fans who expected some potential from that game.. including me! I really don't see why you should make a dancing mini huggy.. figure.. in a flower pot? Like- what-- instead, why not focus on gathering enough resources to improve the game design or even add more content to the game. Heck, they could've used THAT money to hire more people so we can get more chapters faster in the distant future! I don't want a pj pugopillar plushie, i want chapter 3 and the rest of the chapters to come out! It's officially been one year since we got chapter 2 ;-;-
slendytubbies and five nights at freddys was a build up for a whole generation for games, some bad some good.
Why has no one mentioned amanda the adventurer like that game is pretty cool as a mascot horror game
9:35 Mate that's just unlucky timing, what are you on about?
