watching this video reminded me of something i read earlier. i can’t remember the exact words, but i remember what they basically said:
horror as a genre was never *just* about fear. it’s been about disgust and the unnerving. it’s about being unsure of what’s even right in a horrible situation. it’s about being uncomfortable.
modern front-page indie horror games lack that a lot, and it’s something i miss. hell, if a 2d RPG Maker game can be scarier than modern horror, no offense to RPG Maker devs, but I think that there’s a problem.

Yume Nikki and Omori are imo some of the best examples of RPG horror (Not to say I don't like the classics like Mad Father, Misao, Ao Oni, etc.).

there is actually another name for that: phycological horror. horror that's meant to make you more uncomfortable than scared. it's honestly my favorite kind of horror.
indie horror games are becoming a complete oxymoron. The dev teams behind them are so goddamn corporate and obviously just out to make bucks by creating youtube/streamer bait. they barely contain any actual fucking horror, and banban in particular is such an extremely lazy, poorly made thing that it's barely even a game.
Garten of banban was legit mob games escape goat making their shit look better in every conceivable way but instead they just went "nah mate"
They know if they shit on Banban squad, they would get their "bullying allegations" dig up so they choose different way because their almost non existed goodwill will make any other statement backfired.

When Scott Cawthon created Five Nights At Freddy's, he expressed how he wanted to tell a story of a man who was a horrible father with his children and ironically made attractions and characters for children. He was telling a story of a man who never cared about making kids smile but, making money. Poppy Playtime is that man. Rainbow Friends is that man. "Garten of Banban" is that man. All they care about is money. If they were actually caring about passion and being unique, it would show.

aside from the jumpscares that fnaf kept reusing, I can't think of many new mechanics it brought to the table - poppy at least has the grappling hand, and banban the drone - these games are experimenting with their mechanics, just seems like you're a fnaf fan who doesn't want to see that.

some were remade fir Help Wanted, but just because they are all jumpscares doesn't make it "reused".
As for mechanics? Other than the sitting in one place and the cameras, every game up to VR had different mechanics to protect yourself.

im unbelievably biased (just judging by my content lmao) but Poppy Playtime is VERY far from having rushed lore, rushed mechanics, Etc. It tells a well put and ambigious story that I cannot get enough of. I'm not gonna ignore the similarities to Bendys lore because they are unbelievably similar, but outside of the whole "People turned into monsters" part they are entirely seperate games and it's far from a "rip-off" idk just my thoughts.

I don't really think it's Playtime defending Garten, more defending the playbook they cheat off of. Both have the same beats, horrible tragedy in the past, contrived lore, highly marketable mascots, aggressive pushing to kids. The only difference is that playtime had money to throw around to make an actual product.
I find it so funny that the song ends by promoting Poppy Playtime chapter 3. Idk why, I just find it so strange, especially because of the fact that they promoted it in this video of all things.

Poppy playtime itself isn’t a bad game, and there are people in the development team that clearly care for it
There is a giant team of people making these games. Maybe the higher ups don't have passion, but some of the new devs they hired clearly do.
It's not bad, but forgive me for saying that it could be better if the more greedy members stopped letting everyone see that it's just a money farm for them and let those passionate people do their thing.

The nerve to compare themself to actually talented devs, who do what they do for passion and not a quick buck. Honestly I like the message the animation delivered and it makes me hope it inspires some developer that wants to make a mascot horror game to do an exceptional job and make a game that fights the cancer this theme of games has.
Personally hoping for something more akin to JR’s with its uncanny valley monsters, I fragging loved that game.
Maybe there is hope for poppy, if they are that self-aware, maybe they plan on doing something about it for chapter 3… Who knows, we know it's going to come out anyway, I'll judge when I see the result but surprisingly, it makes me almost pity them. I think what they meant is that the creators may not have passion for it, but other people in the project do, and they acknowledge it. (They already said that in the past in a more corporate way). Thanks for talking about this because, ye, nobody would have otherwise, and it's very, very interesting.

but it doesn't exploit it's mechanic and it's story is a copy paste of bendy and the ink machine
and on the tech level it's so badly optimized I could only play chapter 1 on absurdly low settings.
So it depends on what you judge the game but for me who prefer mechanics and story it's a bad game

The thing I like about this is they weren’t disrespectful to them or lash out at the creators for copying them. I think they should be firm though or else people will start copying them more and think that they can get away with it because the brothers won’t put their foot down. There is a very big difference between being mean and standing up for yourself. This could have been worse, but it wasn’t completely bad.

It weirds me out that there is still people taking garten of banban even semi-seriously, my VERY first instance of knowing the game was in that " what kind of gamer are you " meme pic ( if anyone knows what i'm talking about), and just hearing the title "garten of banban" i did not believe that was an actual game title.
I know a lot of people dislike poppy playtime because of its devs, i for one (this may be a hot take) don't really care about the things they've said or done because i have no interest in actually playing or buying their games, i simply watch them from youtubers and form my opinion strictly on what the games are like, because that's all i care about.

I actually think poppy playtime (despite very clearly mimicking bendy ) does have solid gameplay, despite of my opinion on the characters or anything else surrounding it, it is still a game that, yes, isn't a passion project, but does have some effort put into it, wether you like the game or not.
And the amount of even skeptical youtubers that i saw totally lose their marbles at the ch1 huggy chase leads me to believe it's at least somewhat anxiety-inducing, which is.. its job as a horror game.
Garten of banban however doesn't even try, it's a worthless soulless ripoff only made to capitalize on the few morons that are going to find it and treat it as the next big thing, the new poppy playtime.
Which guess what, DID happen, and the amount of youtubers that i had good consideration of that actually went and gave this game their time still leaves me speechless.
GoB should've just stayed in the dirt where it belonged, with the few occasional memes of the puppet faces plastered onto avengers gifs (glad we got that) and everyone treating it like the lazy asset flip that it is, but on the internet we live in, it's defended by the very people it's copying.

Dude, if there's blue from rainbow friends in that musical number, which mind you, is a literal blue blob with a crown, eyes and some lighter blue goop drooling from his 'mouth', you know they're trying too hard. Heck, even Jumbo Josh is a literal veiny green huge blob with arms and perfectly spherical and equal theeth in an always open mouth. Huggy and Bendy have both original designs; And why did they even include freddy in that? It's the most well-designed indie horror character from all of them in the room.

ngl, it kinda bothers me that basically any horror franchise with a recognizable villain seems to be called "mascot horror" lately. Like, people call Hello Neighbor mascot horror because.. why? Was Nightmare on Elm Street a mascot horror franchise? Like, I haven't seen anyone succinctly define the term in a way that includes everything people call "mascot horror" without also including franchises people don't consider part of the subgenre. More often, it just seems to mean any indie horror game after 2014 with saturated colors and a recognizable central character.

I think this is the devs saying that while yes, they were tasked with making a game to sell merch, they still have a lot of love and passion with these characters and the development of this game. If these sorts of messages reach the banban devs, than maybe a salvagable game it could be.
