To me personally, Sonic.EXE one last round is my favourite, I like the aspect of feeling like there is no escape, but I get where you're coming from.
I Like Sonic Exe One More Time as one of my favourite exes cause hes very creative and his voice sounds deep as hell and in the original game he is literally tormenting tails with literally only 1% of his power and in his super and hyper form he is even stronger 💀.
(Warning: 🤓)
So uh the actual story of both the original Sonic.exe and the offical remake SONIC 2011 (which you included an image from in the thumbnail but didn’t mention at all) is that a being named X was birthed from “the void”, and is obsessed with humanity and the Sonic franchise (the latter was way more emphasized in the true original in ways you DO NOT want to know). He steals the souls of human victims and takes them to his world where puts them in the vessels of Sonic characters and tortures them in his “games”.
While basically none of this is hinted at in the original story, in the remake the character’s names in the bottom left corner change to their real human names a bit before their deaths. The game is still a really long walking simulator though, but this time it has a lore reason in that X is just bad at making games (the creator does admit it’s a fair complaint though). He does have more of a personality though, which you can read more about on the Sonic Oddities wiki. If you do want to play the remake, turn your antivirus off, you’ll see why (it’s not a virus).
Just a reminder that some of these games aren’t really meant to be “games” in terms of actual gameplay.
Also you should look up “sonic gameplay” and watch the video uploaded by Springless Music.
In spirits of hell it uses a unique exe called exeller who is killing to keep sanity
So cool to see how your content has improved over time. Anyways one core element of horror is creating fear lol
Actually I looked into how to write horror earlier. One thing that makes horror work is making it feel real. Not real in the sense that it's realistic. I guess you could call it the uncanny, where you can tell that there's something wrong, despite the way it feels real. I think good analog horror is great at this.
A second component is an emotional core. If there's a character who feels human, who fears for their own life, that could be an anchor for the audience according to Masterclass.
One thing I noticed when I watched a horror musical (the guy who didn't like musicals; good and free on YT, but contains adult jokes & language) was how compelling knowing the outcome was. I was rooting for the characters to survive, but the story essentially gave away that a character was going to die often minutes before they did. The story set up the character's flaws, but instead of the characters growing, you see how it dooms them. Waiting for that moment when they die, just hoping that maybe they don't give in, was incredibly suspenseful.
On that note, I think suspense and horror are very close to each other. The release without buildup is not nearly as thrilling.
Another thing I noticed about the musical was because I knew their fates, it felt like there was no control. That feeling of losing control is also important.
We need more knuckles.exe
@@Joey-lv5ou agreed
Also Sonic Omt is a very good fangame of sonic exe aswell the developer is still working on it
Most exe games don't explain the lore in game but via the creators or wikis just search up 2011 sonic exe go to a wiki and you will see what I mean
This was a good video!
No it wasn’t! GRAAAAHHHHH 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
Agreed
@@froogy666 well I Appreciate your brutal honesty
Also about olr
Wait.... He has a real ending coming just wait
To me all these games, even the best ones, have the same problem, they're too in your face. Jumpscare after jumpscare, you just get numb to it. The later games might have better gameplay but I still consider the original to be the creepiest. As dumb as it is, it's somehow the most subtle, which isn't saying much. I've never programmed a game in my life, but if I were making one of these, I'd make it a slow burner. Randomized levels to make the experience more personal, each level getting slowly eerier and eerier, a lot of puzzle elements like rpg horror games, a sense of mystery as you slowly uncover what's happening, lots of quiet moments with no music and a lot of ambience, new enemies that'd be minions of X, similar to Iblis and Mephiles, maybe using assets from other fitting games like Metroid and Castlevania to add some much needed atmosphere and spice up the scenery. If any Sonic.exe developers see this, please contact me! I'm a well of ideas lol!
I like alot of your points, but I think the criticism's to one more round's unwinability are kind of missing the point of the game. the entire point (at least I think) is that it is a play on those unwinnable versions. that's the story. it's different if it's just to be cool, but this is a play on that trope done with high production.
I understand that. In my mind I guess high quality visuals (they are very good to be clear) just don’t make a game, and it was sort of frustrating when I played for like an hour and the game just told me no, it felt sort of primitive like they just forgot to include a victory. But the point is to play off it and I understand that better now. Honestly it is probably my second favorite Sonic.EXE game, I hyperbolized probably a little too much for the flow of the video
i was about to comment about the spirits of hell and then i saw it pop up on screen...
also whisper of soul is getting a remake
How can you say all sonic.exe games are bad when you never played .eyx or one last round (a remake of one more round)
Froogy Here's the explanation you was talking about at 7:06 Enjoy: A demonic force came to earth (aka Green hill zone) and the force wanted to eliminate people but he couldn't risk being stopped so he took a look around and saw Sonic, The fast and powerful so the force took over Sonic
😔.
I’ve been defeated.
?
@@Cvntastrophy how so?
Don't feel too bad
Also just be glad you are first

Hey, isn't the jumpscare sound just a altered version of the jumpscare sound from Five Nights at Wario's 3
Probably 💀
Unfortunately after checking, I think it’s just a very, very similar scream, you can hear a bit of difference at the end. I wish it was the FNAW3 scream though, that would be hilarious

If Dan the patient bear Luigi kid gaming or Mr pixel productions here's you say this about how you literally dislike the fact that a cliche will always be a cliche you're going to get shot down I'm sorry you have to hear this but as somebody who's an OG from 2012 your video really does upset me
No disrespect btw
