being repeatedly sliced by a blade didn’t phase him, but a flashback of the Welshman with the receding hairline was too much
He recognizes the hairline of a true threat
Vegeta and Askeladd got the V cut
Don't underestimate the Welsh, they've scared us for the past millenia. Still don't know what they really are. I don't blame thorfinn
a flashback of a receding hairline would trigger my ptsd too😭
😆
Thorfinn's body responding to a real warrior spoke for itself. His fighting instinct is still there. Rusty but still there. Even dead, Askeladd still has screentime lol
Because he's the GOAT. Long live Artorius
He hates fighting at this point.
The author genuinely tried to make Snake the new Askeladd, but couldn't work. I feel that he misses the character more than all of us
he will show up more, just wait
If animes taught me anything is that the will to live and of fighting spirit never truly leaves you to put your body through enough training it's not forgetting but also I can already see snake is plotting something he had suspicions and now it's confirmed Thorfinn is back in the frey whether he wants to be or not
Snake:
> *saves man*
> *proceeds to threaten man's life to give him a reason to live*
> *leaves and refuses to elaborate*
Absolute chad
Unfathomably Based.
"This is Snake, I'm done here"
Not to give him a reason to live but to show him a proof that he is not as suicidal as he thinks
He is the JetstreamSam (Mgr) of vinland
Seeing Askeladd again specifically in this scene shows how much of an influence he's had on Thorfinn. Despite his depression his body reacted instinctively to the threat.
Abs despite that Askeladd lied and murdered his own father infront of him, it’s giving PTSD
Askachadd giving Thorfinn PTSD
Later on in the series you find out Thorfinn sees Askeladd as one of his three fathers. The other two being Thors and Lief.
U will see him more in valhalla wait like 5-10 episode more
shows how terrifying Askchadd was
Isn’t it fascinating that Thorfinn took all those slashes and didn’t bat an eye but the moment someone he considered a real warrior tried to take a swipe at him, he instinctively reacted. This season has just been peak character study and storytelling.
@@Hot.Cocoa_0 well he considered him a warrior in some aspect
@@Hot.Cocoa_0 not consider in the litteral sense, he just had a primal reaction to someone dangerous attacking him
It's only been a few episodes bro relax
The real content to do a "character study" with will come a little later atleast
@@Hot.Cocoa_0 Thorfinn didn't bat an eye when being sliced by Fox. It was as if he was being bitten and chewed on by a squirrel. As soon as a lion, or in this case a dangerous snake (Hebi) came for him, his instincts preserved his life. It went to show that despite all the negativity Thorfinn has presented through his outlook on life, a part of him still wants to live when presented with real danger. Is this instinct, or a literal desire? I imagine the answer will be part of Thorfinns process of learning.
Yeah but I have been spoiled from binge watching S1 of the greatest anime and now that I see these episodes one week at a time it is frustrating. I need more. I want to watch hours of it.
I like how instead of having thorfinn's thoughts being audible to us they chose to convey the fact snake moved in a very similar way to askeladd visually.
Body language can trigger so many memories, good and bad. I hope my boy can have a moment to just… heal finally 😢
@@connor_obrady whats up with you??
I understood it as him having killing intent, his body noticed the difference between snake and the other dude because the blond guy only wanted a response
True, this is something Demon Slayer should be doing. Say less, show more.
@@joshuaconstantine269 wym? Bro is just elaborating on what happened, nothing more, nothing less
I think Snake knew or atleast expected Thorfinn to actually dodge that attack. What caught him off guard was that Thorfinn didn't just avoid it, he even threw in a counter kick from a compromised position. Dude is a beast.
"caught him off guard"
Ummm, he did block the kick. That is not "off guard."
If anything, Snake was not expecting to be "on guard" at all.
He was clearly caught off guard you can tell by his expression 😭😭😭😭 “thecnically”
@@yoshidinono8095 Snake is a very competent fighter, so he reacted and blocked. You can be off guard and still react, just like thorfinn did
This szn has been nothing but peak storytelling. For a story to change the pace this drastically and yet still be good is impressive. As an anime only, i can’t wait to see how Thorfin finds a purpose in his life.
I think you will be very satisfied by the end of season 2
Ur in a for a treat this szn bro
You will certainly not be disappointed
Just gonna get better
You're correct about the story telling. The change of pace is usually off putting but even though it feels like an entirely new anime, it's the same story and it's being told in such a compelling way. You will love the rest of this arc it's a fan favorite for a reason.
The way Snake said 'Thorfinn', it sounded just like Askeladd 😭😭😭
I think that's the point of his character
@@mr.nobody6143 yeah i agree
@@mr.nobody6143 also askeladd would teach him a lesson every fight then just move on too
His whole demeaner is just like Askeladd's. It's almost like he is one of Askeladd's halfbrothers
Yeah, and the way he smiles at 1:12 looks like Askeladd too
my boy thorfinn figuring out life is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, i just want to give him a hug :(
Respectfully I don’t think he’d want a hug from a stranger right now
@@Deep_chocolate oh but he needs one
He'll punch your face for sure 😂
He becomes even more huggable after this season! Not because he's sad though, he turns into the most wholesome and adorable person, he desrves the world tbh
This showed that Fox is not that guy, Snake is. Can't wait to see more of him this season.

Your mind submits, your heart succumbs, but your body still resists.
Nice KH BBS reference 👏🏾
So far season 2 for me is an absolute masterpiece and it deeply resonates with me, this episode is the best thus far imo, can’t wait for the next!
The fact that Thorfinn, or at least his instinct and muscle memory, instinctively considered Snake a threat similar to Askeladd says a LOT about him with minimal dialogue or exposition.
Can't wait for the rest of this arc to get animated.
I will flat out say it. As phenomenal as the first season of Vinland Saga was, what this season is presenting is a master class in developing characters with crippling depression and how the mind conflicts with itself.
For example, five years ago, I was having a really tough time in my life. I was miserable at my job, I was miserable with my relationships, I was in massive debt…I felt a sense of dread waking up in the morning because I had a horrible outlook at what the day was going to bring and I even started having suicidal thoughts. However, part of me never really wanted to take my own life because there was this persisting feeling that my rotten luck can’t last forever and if I can just make it through, something good was bound to happen. One day, I ended up having a massive emotional meltdown at work that really concerned my boss. He highly recommended that I go seek therapy because he was terrified by what was going on with me. After about three months of therapy, I was really starting to turn a corner and started to have a different outlook.
Sure enough, later that year, I ended up getting a new, better paying job in a new city. Things got better and ended up making new friends and relationships that helped my life stop feeling so monotonous. While the depression has never truly “gone away,” I am finally happy with how things played out and am glad that that part of me that wanted to persist and persevere pulled through.
While obviously the circumstances are vastly different, I completely understand what Thorfinn is going through. He is drowning in misery and while part of him has no desire to keep living, there is a part of his brain that is trying to will him to persevere through the mental and physical anguish. The writing of Thorfinn’s character is downright brilliant. People are not watching this show are truly missing out.
Atm I'm going trough a similar situation as you did, I'm glad you found the light at the end of the tunnel.
I hope the whole world sees this comment
Yeah season 2 really is a masterpiece.
This was the only part of the episode where Thorfin gets out of his depressed state, which makes it all the more valuable. The trauma he carries, the nightmares he has,his acceptance to death and later on him questioning what he should do now that his body doesn't accept death..
It's a extremely sad episode.
Seeing Askhaland again brought me so much nostalgia
One of the best characters, writing wise in fiction
>Askhaland
There was an attempt
Yes, it was great seeing Ashlumond.
"Your body says it wants to live"
Nah bro just has PTSD 💀
😂
Poor thorfinn 😂
"I have killed many who were deserving.
*And many who were not."*
NO crazy fights, flashing weapons, or even magical power. But his series has me gripped like an eagle's claw.
"Crazy fights" it gets a lil crazy later but yea
It had all of those in the first season though 🤣. Especially magical power, because I refuse to believe homies like Thorkell aren’t magical.
@@6ixlxrd thorfinn is so attractive it must be magical hehe
you tellin me thorkell's fights are not crazy??
@@JoJoboiWav I think we were talking about the second season which is more mellow!
i've read Vinland Saga and Berserk both in the ending phase of a long period of suffering in my life. In this period i've experienced a lot of failures in many areas, everything i experienced in this period had a negative impact on myself and others close, i was traumatized by a lot of others things in my past, suspicious of everything and everyone. Seeing Thorfinn and Guts struggling with life and facing their problems head on, never acting like victims and becoming better mans helped me a lot to become a better man myself. I dont know if that is the usual way to do it but i've read this 2 masterpieces like it was a therapy, from the most realistic point of view possible, i've payed real attention to every detail and thought about how that could help me in my own life, and it did, greatly, so pay attention kids.
Same for me but with Attack on Titans. It didnt cure my depression but encouraged me to move forward and face the world despite feeling empty inside
you're not the main character buddy
@@brianlu2511 are you okay?
@@brianlu2511 Everyone is the MC of their own lives
I read/watched Berserk before my most traumatic period of life and it helped immensely. Whenever I felt like giving up an image of Guts would appear in my mind asking me if I wanted to be a pathetic weakling. The whole struggler concept is very inspiring.
Snake doesn't know that this young man has fought with titans like thorkhell and demons like askeladd.. it's honestly so beautiful and awesome to see Thorfin use his body for battle, this scene was defense mostly but still, seeing thorfinn',s insane capabilities as a warrior is incredible!! It also wakes him up from this depressed state he is in.
You seem to forget the most important lesson Thorfinn chose to ignore though: "a true warrior does not need a sword". You'll understand what that means over the course of the season.
@@Regenmacher175tell me now
@@tonyknafla3283 No, it's more interesting to find it out for yourself as you experience the story.
@@Regenmacher175 so what - like Jesus then ?
The whole cutting scene is put in perspective when you realize that even unarmed and beaten down, Thorfinn could easy slay all of those soldiers, if he chose to.
0:30 "He's good. As sharp as Askeladd... maybe even quicker on the strike."
Excellent, Snake. Age hasn't slowed you down one bit.
nice
Everything about this episode was perfection
I love that Thorfinn doesn't take his eyes off Snake the entire time he's in the air after the kick. He instantly recognized what a serious threat Snake is.
Snake didn't react to Thorfinns kick, as you can see by the surprise on his face, he instinctively guards his exposed side after swinging his sword, despite not expecting danger.
fighters will do this because there is no time to react during an exchange, you have to predict and guard your weakspots ahead of time, the fact snake did it even against a seemingly harmless opponent shows he's top tier.
If you slow down the video snake moves his eyes downward seeing the kick, then puts up his guard. He just wasn't expecting Thorfinn to be as good as he was, or the impact was stronger than he expected from such a small boy.
a lot of fighters in REAL LIFE drop their guard when throwing a punch or kick, in fact most fighters do.
@@rabbychan exactly, idk what this guy is on about
@@nikkoval8490 @Rabby Its such a basic concept that you both can only be trolling, go watch literally any professional MMA match or boxing or any sport of choice, one hand is throwing, the other is guarding face or body, there is no argument here

Ofcourse you are correct about how the technique SHOULD be performed but very few do it correctly, and that is not an insult but a fight is different from doing picture perfect combination during a training session...
Almost ever single one of them drops their guard, sometimes they pay for it and sometimes they don't.
Don't forget that Snake is like the third character who would stand a chance againist Thorfinn.
i think with askeladd and thors being both dead, there is no one known who compares to Thorfinn skillwise, although it may be close tbh
@@sirjoesphjoestar8361 Thorfinn only beat Thorkell because Askeladd helped him from the sidelines.

Same... I know his death was necessary for Thorfinn's development, but I still miss him
Seeing that familiar concerned/determined look in Thorfinn's eyes with that hairstyle he almost looked like his kid self again. The art is so good in this series in subtle ways
I love how Thorfinn's muscle memory kicks in again after actually "feeling" the killing intent of an opponent.
I like how Snake actually didn't expect him to be that skilled and was kinda bewildered after Thorfinn's attack but still managed to stay in character and prove his point
We all know that Snake is a Danish warrior, but with his oriental sword, it’s safe to assume that he fought as a Varangian guard or maybe befriended some Turkic warriors like the Pecheneg people
Man this episode was amazing.
fr too masterpiece so far
I was shook for real by the nightmare sequence
@MuffMuff36 honestly throfinns voice actor killed it with that scene, loved it
@@muffmuff3631 Buckle up!
Snakes movement reminded Thorfinn of Askeladd on top of the fact that Snake is very obviously a more skilled warrior than any of the rest of the brutes. Thorfinn didn’t move during being sliced up because one he is partially suicidal, two he isn’t intimidated by the brutes in any way because he knows they aren’t that skilled and they just like to try to make people scared. As soon as he thought about Askeladd and had an actual warrior take a swing at him his fighter instincts kicked in. Amazing attention to detail and amazing character development
Can’t wait for thorkell and thorfinn to meet again
Seeing Askeladd in this episode is making me want to rewatch season 1 while waiting for the next episode.

@Jonah K jojo bizarre adventure is nothing like vinland saga. How about a actual relevant recommendation?
Honestly the askalaad cameo doesn't even speak to thorfinns inner warrior still being alive to me, it more screams how bad his PTSD is from askalaad that a feeling of a presence similar to his is the only thing that can get a reaction out of him anymore. True that he's also reacting to someone genuinely strong but fox still could have killed him just as easily given the circumstances. it just takes a swing of a sword
Thorfinn character development is about to begin
Best episode of the season so far! Thorfinns nightmare screams were something else
Uh oh, Snake activated the ThorFINNISHER
thats CRAZY 😂😂😂 I had to rewind and pause to see everybody's face. This is an amazing moment
Honestly this is a PSA for anyone who is considering suicide. A lot of people who survived the jump off of bridges trying to end it - a great number of them realized halfway down that they wanted to live. Don't believe your brain, and don't let it convince you its all over. You gotta live.

This was probably top 5 episodes of anime I’ve ever watched, beautiful
I like how snake even acts the same as askeladd back when thorfinn was young and challenging him to a duel after he wins he yawns as if it's boring haha

Snake is definitely the Askeladd of this season. They are both seasoned killers with a shared Machivellian perspective when it comes to leadership.
