guess i'm one of them then. but this episode was so refreshing and fun to watch.
are those really fans? Like seriously how they didnt heard that Vinland saga is not Beseark and that after prologue tone changes for complete 180. Unless they managed to stay spoiler free this whole time.

@@madkoala2130 Well they're definitely fans of the first season even if they missed all of the foreshadowing that had to do with Thor's character
Whatâs really interesting is that Thorkell started following Canute because he saw Thors in his gaze. Avoiding unnecessary bloodshed is exactly what Thors would do.
Iâm getting the impression that Thorkell is still learning to accept that Thors had become a pacifist.
that's the tragic part of his character: he's interested and wants to achieve that true warrior state that he saw in thors and canute but we know is basically impossible for him to get there

Thorkell still got the wrong idea of what being a âtrue warriorâ is because heâs still got the Overwhelming Powerhouse Ogre of Thor stuck in his head which he really aims to be like instead of this âPacifist Bullcrapâ that he doesnât realize yet

well to be honest the methods of canute are better than that of the vikings but they are not pacifists, that is if they are a minor bloodshed.

Thorkhell saying to Canute that he is not even the king of England and pretty much a nobody was the best build up for the finale of the episode where Canute sits on the throne after the "unexplained" illnesses that killed the previous kings.
He could tell that Canute wasn't ready for war.
Thorkell doesn't approve of the way Canute does things anyway, Thorkell enjoys the battlefield, Canute can use any method to achieve the outcome he wants.

Just a quick reminder: similarly as Sven, Knut, etc, Thorkell actually existed. Among his peers, he was called Thorkell the Tall; Thorkell the Strong.
We are talking about a Viking elite warriors clan, among which were warlords, or berserkers that would really get over-enraged using mushrooms, that could (and have) wiped out villages, towns, entire counties, etc.
And among those madlads, there was this dude that was so strong that even they just had to recognize him as "Strong". I dont' know what Odin did 9 months prior his birth, but He might need to check His diary...
I'm not sure about what happened to him afterwards, but when the strongest Vikings bestow you as "the Strong" one, titles, crowns, etc must not have meant much for him, in the end.
I can only imagine the look on the archeologists who will have found his tomb/remains, perplexed, wondering if they had found the missing link between the humans and the gorilla...

Man Canute really took a full 180 from last season, itâs shocking how ruthless heâs become but I guess to become king itâs a necessary evil
I think the 180 started last season, this is just completing the turn.

He isnt really ruthless, but just knows how to play his cards. He shows ruthlessness when necesary to impose himself that he is ruler.
Remember that earlier Ăźn the episode, He orered the executions of rapists taking advantage of the poor women.
It's thr same development that thorfinn had. He went from being a badass who could take out several enemies. To be being a complete pacifist that has zero will to defend himself. While with Canute. He goes from a femboy pacifist to a strong leader who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty.Both Canute and thorfinn took 180s I their character development this season.

i think everyone is attacking eachother without realising itd be better with a balance of both, rather than preference of one over the other. honestly i love the fighting and the character development, even if thors and thorfinn become pacifists.

@@intimpulliber7376 he did in 3 years what his dad struggled to do in a decade. He took the throne and eliminated any obstacles or contenders in his way. He went from p*ssy femboy to a ruthless ruler.

@@intimpulliber7376 I guess as a peasant I would prefer a king that simply poisons the rival and ends a war early, than one that has to take the kingdom into a really long war were even more lives are lost. So yeah, poisoning someone is not a good thing, but going into an "honorable" war would cost several more human lives
@@intimpulliber7376 Not necessarily. When a king goes to war for a throne and conquers the land, regardless of motives innocent people will die, towns will be burned, there will be pillaging and raiding. It's quite that simple.

I can't lie this episode felt even more grand knowing Canute actually existed in real life

Just with some liberties. King Canute started as a pagan/atheist but became a devout Christian and submitted his everything to Jesus. While it really did a 180 from that in the show lol

This entire episode was Canute flexing and i love it, this man was already my favourite character by he just keeps getting better

Really cool to see Canute. There's a town nearby where I live that is named after him: Canewdon (the spelling has changed over the centuries, as you can imagine).
My hometown neighbours one of the two churches that are either side of Canewdon, too.
This episode was really well made.. I pretty much thought they would pass that chapter in a 10 minute go but instead they made a full episode about canute taking the throne. Nice... Now the invasion :D

I got a little bit sad that they didn't actually shown their struggle against Edmund, cause I was kinda looking forward to this, but I must admit that it works a lot better as showing how fast Kanut was able to become a king when put in only one episode, cause retaking England in 3 years is really very impressive.

I heard people talking about S2 being slow and boring. This episode was mad good. He hates Canute cause Canute is OP and there's no long battles haha.
This season IS slow and boring as a whole. It's kinda disappointing we will never have anymore exciting moments like from s1. It'll have some nice moments. But for most of it, a snorefest.
