so cool
bruh.... MAD RIVER GLEN SINGLE CHAIR!!!! just gonna need to borrow a pair of skis
I'm sorry but I'm offended I never made it past the two stick stage of evolution (neanderthal) ,however I did evolve to the point of having my Ariel.
We have these and it just comes and you have to grap it no matter what😊
We have this all over Europe and you don't even have the guy that helps you, you pull the handle by yourself while the guy is in the cabin smoking pot
I use to be that guy in the cabin in Val d’Isère yeaaars ago.
Totally agree. 🪴🔥
@@beutgt I was in Bonneval sur Arc last week you guys have such a nice spot
It’s good to hear that no matter where you are in the world ops are just a bunch of useless kids smoking weed (there’s usually one that functions and does the whole job)
Agreed, no need for the attendant at any of these I have used over the years
I want that job then 😂
Still lots of these around in Europe. I actually think they're more comfy than the T-bar.
I see that!
We have one in Tignes. Take you up passed the snow park. Caught me off guard the first time; zooped me into narnia
Not for snowboarders
@@XEHuC Not true, they work fine.
T bar fucking sucks when ur alone on it, or when the other person is of a different height, or if u snowboard.
Now that u mention it, the T bar overall just fuckin sucks
i’ve been always skiing in spain and france and this is one of the most common ski lifts
Ya it’s common in the USA as well lmao
My question is since I cannot see here… how does it connect/attach at the top/cable? Something like a hook or a solid loop that tightens?
@@andrew6658 i’m not very sure about it, i think that the hook just opens and closes to tighten to the cable
@@alvarohernandez-qr5bs just bc I’m wondering how safe this was haha
@@andrew6658 imagine putting a cable through a tube, when you turn the tube in the direction of the cable it grips the cable. thats how it works. you can find videos on youtube search poma lift workings!
It’s a pomma, common in Scotland, this one is quite tame, some launch you off like an aircraft carrier!
Yad Moss one does .. Its hilarious to watch people !
100% the Harrier at the lecht gives you air for a grab or two
Hell yes. M1 poma at Cairngorms almost rips you oot yer boots
Wait, you can ski in Scotland??
@@micheal124557899 Maybe that's why they're brutal. Lol.
Lots of these in the Alps. They're not used for moving any volume of skiers, more for putting together small links in the ski area. Never knew it was a 1950s design though.
That’s how I learned to ski in the late 60’s. I hated that thing!
1930's I believe.
it took 24 seconds to send off one skier so yeah not great volume.
Next one : Here guys is a freaking amazing car where you have to MANUALY change gear ... Can't believe it at first.
😂🤣
😂 right! This is the most boring ‘crazy’ thing I’ve ever seen on the internet
Professional drivers hate that!
I have manual tramsition on the road bicycle. Switching it 1000 times buring ride is not a problem. I dont think about it. When you ride a board, you also do the same moves thousands and thousands of times, the same turns, the same sit-ups. Physical activity is not for the lazy.
You mean I have to feed the horse that pulls my carriage?
His mind will be blown if he ever sees a DVD player🤯
Imagine if he seen a VCR 😎
@@christianb8228 I didn’t want to reference a VCR as it might confuse everyone born after 1995.
@@andrewjackson8089 lol well screw them they never got to experience the good old like we did might sound arrogant, but I don’t care it’s the truth. Are blue-rays even a thing any more? Is it finally only streaming?
VCR‘s are kind of magical
@@christianb8228 Nothing like being woken up in the middle of the night by your elder family to simply rewind the tape in the VCR so that can be promptly returned to *Blockbuster* in the morning.
We have these ski lifts in almost every ski resort in Slovakia, but they're automated. There is a bar that you hit with legs when moving to the stick which takes you up and that bar send a signal the thing that attaches the stick to the line. So the operator has to come out only when there's a fault (happens lot of times, but I learned how to "repair" it myself, so the operator is always happy when he doesn't have to come out of his heated hut).
Yay a Slovakian guy❤
"Eject this girl" =>Gently takes of in a smooth motion

im hearing NICE
Im like 99% sure hes saying NAAICE

@@Oneofakind123 Yeah it could be but I only hear naaice 🥲
i snowboard in france and these are everywhere haha
They suck
Et on arrive aussi a se servir d une boîte de vitesse manuelle, on est des dingos
i snowboard but i’ve never attempted to use one of these cause i’m so confused on how to with a snowboard
Just place your back foot a little forward, but its not that comfortabele, can also put under your arm
@@maddiecadabbie7140 I am also Snowboarder and a good trick is to only have yozr front foot in your binding than just use it as a T-Bar. A lot of these in Europe dont have operators but a button or little gate to push with ur foot.
Love it when they lift so hard it dislocates your hip
Lol
Or smacks you in the nuts. Ouch!
Got me laughing with "Ejecto seato cuzzz!"
Best line from 2 fast 2 furious
Ejecto Seato cuz classic 🤣
its actually on every resort in my country Georgia in Europe and I think it is pretty common all around Europe
allmost all of europe; they arent common in austria, germany and italy
They have the same one at Killington Vermont
Really? Which part. I always go to killington with my family and haven’t seen it I want to check it out
@@adamkellogg745 you can check it out but it’s not open to the public. Kms bought it a few years back so that they can use it for race practice. It’s uses towers from three lifts that are no longer in use.
I fell off of that one in 1985 or so. There was a short and very steep part and the disc slipped between my legs!
@@alweinhofer5453 PC? Where?
@@alweinhofer5453 Not any more. I know Ripcord. I don’t know when they switched it out, but it is now a rope tow.
Why did I expect him to just get yeeted into oblivion
They're all over in South America as well, only they don't bother with a liftee; they're self-serve.
There is no snow in South America
Killington has one also. When I operated it the lift was on Snowdon next to bunny buster and ran at 800ft min thing wiped so many people out. Now it's over on Ramshead but they turned it down to around 400-450ft
Dang I've never seen it. Gonna have to hunt that thing down next time I'm at Kmart
@@j0ndav1s think its only ran during kms race training now. But man did I see some awesome wipe outs lol. "Ski/ride uphill" the person would sit thinking their going to fly from the crotch and the did haha sent it straight to the ground then flung. All ages would do that
It's now located skiers right once you get off ramshead lift. It use to be at great northern bunny buster/mouse trap area. Now Snowdon triple has a midstation again and the tunnels so it was moved to reduce traffic
My wife got knocked unconscious by that lift at Killington in late 1980's. Took the ski patrol rescue taboggon down. She never rode it again. That lift would launch you in the air if you were unprepared
@@snowater1 oh man... yeah it was a bad placement with the exit being a trail crossing. I had to call patrol a few times, one skier was crossing and caught a poma disc to the nose and broke it. Blood everywhere
I loved those in the 1980's Homewood Resort Lake Tahoe!!!!❤❤❤
The guy with the ejector handle was long retired in Europe and replaced with a leaver you push with your boot.
But the action remains: on older lifts springs are long gone, you push the pole with your boot to run, wait watching as the thing engages and starts uphill, wiat some more, and WHAM you go.
If you're light you catch some air ;)
I remember one morning a similar lift had many of those pistons frozen. I was like 12, and the thing was able to lift me up in the air ca 1m where the cable was routed higher. Even more fun: I started rotating slowly, so when I got back to the ground I was going backwards, than soon another lift in the air just to turn back. We had a few really fun rides until it got warmer and they started dropping you back to the ground.
Oh, and with the piston unable to expand it was quite uncomfortable for the balls :)
This want yad Moss in the UK was it ! Scariest lift I've ever been on .. Learn to board ! Learn to fly more like Hahaha
This is actually easier than the one we have in Italy, where you have 1 sec to catch the seat before it goes up in the mountain with or without you. No queue, hit and run
There’s some CRAZY 1950’s double chairs at Mt. Baldy in Los Angeles. You should go sometime!
Hey guys he makes these videos for people that are new to snowboarding. I love his videos and didn’t know this. Excited to see so many places have it though. Great information to have before you get on sight especially for someone with a bit of anxiety! 😂
When Lloyd Bolander built the Sipapu Ski Resort in 1950, that was the resort's main lift and I have heard that the run named Uno was the path of the original lift line. After they upgraded to a triple chair lift for the main lift, they moved that lift over to one of the side areas where it serves two green runs named Candy and Brandy.
We got those in some places in norway but its often a stick that is like 20cm over the ground when it moves it sends a lift
It's the same in Finland
Sipapu! That’s one convenient and comfortable lift for snowboarder! Fun mountain with friendly staffs there too.
Love it!
I have been to Sipapu, where this lift is located, before. Was not open when I went in 2021. Lift 1 (frontside triple chair) and Jackalope (beginner lift on frontside) were the only 2 lifts open that day. Of course, that is the only time so far that I have been to Sipapu. The footage of Lift 1 is on my channel.
This chair rocks
@@JohnathanBuckhouse I have been on a Pomalift before. Wasn’t a detachable version though. Sunrise at Powder Mountain, Utah. Hope I can hit this one next season!
I trust this lift more than any other modern lift today.
Me too! Cuz ya never leave the ground--it was a great way to get part way up the mountain! Much less stress when I was a beginner.
These are state of the art tech in Scotland. Lots of T-bar lifts still on our hills.
It's not a ski lift, that's a poma lift!!! They were awesome. I missed them, so glad to see them come back.
It's really nice with skiers, fast and easy, but fun to watch on snowboarders especially the less experienced ones.
I fell the first time going up a t bar
In Bulgaria that's a normal thing 😂
I love how he is baffled by it.
Coloradoan: So, it's a T-bar, but it actually waits for you to sit down?
Lift operator: Yep.
Coloradoan: Isn't this a safety risk?
Lift operator: I don't follow.
Coloradoan: Imagine that you are too drunk or high to snowboard. A T-bar will probably knock you over and you won't be able to take a run, but this thing won't.
Lift operator: ...
Sorry we’re not used to Third World lifts in the states. We got high speed, quads cause we’re big bad Americans.
@@Bikes0420 They exist in every alpine country too (Switzerland, Italy, France...)
These exist in the US too. This guy is just oblivious lmao
Maybe because he’s not from Bulgaria
That's so cool! What a unique thing to find. Keep up the commentary on gems like this!
Still maintained and still very common all over Europe, works very well, departure is automated with optical signal or electromechanical mechanism for years now. Advantages of these Pomma "Téléski" lift are that they work even when conditions are very windy and chairlifts are closed, they are faster than std chairlift too and much cheaper too upfront. You can even take them with a snowboard. Actually this one is quiet smooth, some are lifting you above ground upon departure depending of snow level and maintenance. Disadvantage is that you get your pants dark if there is oil on the line wheels leaking down into the "seats". ;-)
Best thing about these is they are fastest ground lifts out there, thus also quite fun to ride.
My favorite lift at sipapu for sure!
For snowboarders this is fkin hell
True!
This old ski lift is the best ever made it just works and works and works. Perfect is stormy weather and harsh climate.
Poma lifts are awesome. Fast, sheltered, no wind delays
So nice!
that lift is the norm here in greece xd you'd love it
wait, you can ski in greece?
@@Happiwappi there are 19 ski resorts in Greece
Ha! I've been catching lols like crazy watching boarders try to cope with that thing:)))
It actually hard a couple of first times but after you get used to it it’s the same as t-bar
Very safe and advanced to me. Snowboarders will like it more!
yeah we had this on my local slope in Czech Republic when I was child. It had no handle even. It worked by pulling the "seat" itself
These are sooo commun in the alps lol
Ja man lmao
Somebody needs to travel more.
Lol
@@JohnathanBuckhouse these exist everywhere Wdym "craziest lift"
Traveling burns the world down
How can he travel more if he doesnt even has a passport?
@@andreasjung3612hese are all over the U.S too all he needs is a car and some money for gas.
“Ejecto seato cuz!” 😂😂😂😂😂 yessss
They have them in the upper parts of Lake Louise. I only know because we got a little disoriented and traversed over to an area of the mountain that was above our ability level. Sat there for less than 5 minutes thinking “oh hell now what”. Two patrollers were taking this lift up. Immediately got off and guided us down until we got to terrain we could handle.
Always appreciate the patrollers!
I thought it was going to be unique and then was like “oh, I see these everywhere when I’m in France”.
There used to be one of these at the top of Copper Mtn heading to Spaulding bowl
That's a gentle one. Some would almost yank you out of your skis!
The Poma Lift! Loved it. As snarky teenagers, we’d yell “Single” in the lineup. Always a laugh. 😂🤣☺️
“Special” yeah… you see them all around europe with a modified release mechanism…
Not the US
Have you ever skied in Scotland?? Pretty much every lift is like that 😂
when i was young - i am eighty now - we had these lifts in switzerland and i liked them very much. you could cruise alone up the hill but you had to make sure, the rope was always taut because if not it could click you off
This is a Poma Lift, from Jean Pomagalski, french ingineer, who invented it in the early 40's then improve it. This is the creator of Poma, lift company, one of the most known in the world next to Leitner (italia, but part of Leitner Poma group now), Doppelmayr (Austria) and Garaventa (Switzerland).
These ski lift are the most represented in France as it equipped every ski resort, from the small one to the biggest. It can achieve small line in beginners area but are also very effective for long travel, with turns in both direction and can be longer than 2 km length.
It is also very common everywhere Pome is represented : South America, Spain, Eastern Europe ...
Me being swiss german: ok😐
Poma lift. Not crazy, many used to be around in the early days.
None in CO
@Johnathan Buckhouse we have one at Snowmass
Use to ride one of these at Burke Mountain in VT
These are everywhere in Scotland, and this one is tame. Fond (!) memories of going airborne for 10 feet when being launched on the Buzzard at The Lecht
Yep, had the exact same thought, as poma’s go this one was super friendly! My first ever snow was the Lecht, 95 I think!
Kinda reminds me of when I was a kid in the 1970’s. We had a local ski hill that had a t- bar lift something like this. I think back to the skiers falling down and dragging behind the bar trying to get back up or the t-bar slipping off their butts and snapping back like an elastic and the power going out and the t-bar stopping with everyone stuck going up. Those were good times.
This is how I learned to ski, 45 years ago! It terrified me, I had to work up my courage to go skiing because of this kind of lift!
Ejecto seato cuzzz! A man of culture I see 😂
I fell so privileged to have taken one off these lifts
One of the 'Lost Ski Areas' in NH had one back in the 60s. I also use one at the Army's Black Rapids Training center.
"ejecto seato cuz" - that's a quote I haven't heard in a LONG time
Old machines are so convoluted and I love it
I'm happy that this makes you so happy
Thanks 😊
That's what I learned to ski with in the late 70's... Great machines. 👍 ❤️🌟❄️
Some places in Sweden use these during storms so that there wont be any unneeded seats on the line that fly around. Its pretty fun to ski in strong wind
Plenty of those in the Alps - usually they just make people fly the first 2-3 meters 🤘
🤔
We skied up on one of these--'gender benders'---as my twin sister and I used to call them (LOL! )---when we learned to ski at 'Sterling Forest', a few hours from Manhattan, around about 1964! :-) It sure taught us to 'think quick' when we heard the clanking noise of the steel bar behind us! LOLOL!
Yep...I've ridden one. They're pretty fun!
I remember using those when I was a kid. They’re called buttons lifts. And they are super for skiers
So hilarious... As a french i leant skiiing using these machines. They are called "Téléski" . It is fun.
These are way cooler than what’s out there, more please. But chairs are fun
Now... When they lift you in the air... That's crazy!
one of the first lifts besides rope tow I ever used man it's fun when you're a little kid it launches you in are air
That’s awesome 😂
We have these all over Europe.. the craziest ones launch me into the air!
That’s rad
OMG! I'm old. I used to ski up hill on these things all the time
Used heaps of these growing up in the U.K., both in Europe and (I think from memory) skiing in Scotland. Some of them you attach the poma by just pulling in hard forwards.
Thought this was normal until last week, learning to ski with these was fun/funny though😂
This was a great design , great for beginners.
Poma is the name of the manufacturer of that particular "platter pull" surface convaence. The name poma just kinda stuck.
Many, many incredible Rocky Mountain moons ago Breckenridge had a Poma going up the left side of the front bowls. Aspen Highlands had one at that same time. Powder Mountain has one currently.
I know I've skied off 2 or 3 others in this country. Can't quite remember where they were.
Two like this on Cairngorm in Scotland. The positions and angles of the components and initial cable and start point are important but often ignored. There are also regular problems with the cable attachment jamming on old pomas. But often the worst fault is the wear in the springs in each poma which makes the forces excessive and dangerous. Operators often don't understand any of this and don't want to!
Those are awesome. Rode a bunch as a kid in the 80’s all through New England. They used to run them much much faster the one you show here. They would have you ski down a ramp and hand you the poma. Then while you were still moving they’d pull the release and you’d be off! (As fast as modern day detachable chairs)
cool vid. Thx
We have lot of theses in France, I never knew they were that old
Yeah some are!
Crazy thing is that you thing it's crazy. EU has them and they are fun to ride. Some of the Pomas can even lift up in the air as a start. So much fun to watch, especially when snowboarder around.
While long gone my home ski area had one that picked you up about 5 feet in the air and 10 feet up the hill before touchdown. Miss it big time.
by far my favourite lift, much comfier than a T bar
I remember these. I am 81 years old and still ski.
At first I thought it was going to lift the skiers in the air and I was thinking the 50s were wild, man!😂
they are perfect....much faster...enjoy the ride
They have one at Hickory Ski Bowl in warrensburg NY as well.
They are everywhere in france haha
Also they are very fun and relaxing to use
And falling of it in the middle is an option and it s a lot of laugh guaranteed haha
Omg this is at Sipapu in New Mexico, I always remember going behind my mom because poor thing would lose her balance and fall. A little bit of comedy on the mountain. 😂
That’s cool. And it still works perfectly
We used one in Wrightwood, CA in the 60s,70s. Holiday Hill...
You just scared the hell out of anyone that wanted to ski! Lol
