Product update. I had mine for 47 days before it quit working. Fantastic product. It is for the features it has. The best multipad out there. I exchanged mine for the Yamaha multi 12. And am very happy. The Alesis reliability issues kept me from getting another one. I will wait a few years for them to work out the bugs before I consider another one. Hope yours is still working

Ben Pursehouse The sound cut in and out on my headphones and then it just cut out permanently. I tried connecting to the 1/4 output to a monitor and it also wouldn’t work. So like I said earlier in my comments months ago I went with the Yamaha dtx multi 12. The Alesis is the best out there for what it does but for reliability which Alesis has always had issues and I experienced it which confirms all the complaints and went with older but reliable Yamaha which is still a beast.

Great review man! That's a pretty sweet piece of tech! I have the SPD-SX but have always been bummed that I can't use it for live loops - it has no way to cut loops to a perfect loop length unless you cut them in your DAW and export! This seems like a good middle ground between the spd-30 and the SX - I might have to check it out... Cheers for the info!

@@lechlerguttersllc9553 sounds like you got a lemon. I did end up purchasing one three years ago and I’ve used it on 100+ gigs a year with my band. No problem uploading samples, no functionality issues.
The one big criticism I have of it is that the interface is not user friendly. For something produced in 2020ish, the workflow used to program banks of pads, rename banks and samples, etc is 1980 Atari level suck.

Thanks for the video, very clear! So i guess one could sample an entire backing track for a song and assign to one of the pads...and then just trigger the pad and jam on top? Also when looping... could I assign different length loops to different pads? So for example, if I do a 1 bare drum loop and have it on pad 1, could I then do a 4 bare loop (for example a 4 bare guitar chord sequence) and have it on pad 2? Thanks again! :)

@@derrickh9648 Being a big Roland fan myself, I'd have to say you are completely wrong. This device is surprisingly a game changer when it comes to multipads. There was a lot of thought put into it from a mechanical standpoint and from a software standpoint. I'd be really surprised if Roland has an answer for this any time soon.
Maybe this isn't as big a deal for people that are just focused on percussion, but for live performers and studio production, this has a lot of uses that go beyond just drums. It's an audio interface, a sampler, a looper, a midi device, a laptop replacement for live synth performance, the list goes on. I'm just beginning to scratch the surface of what I can use this for. And for anyone worrying about the quality- I can tell you first hand this is not a normal Alesis product- this is high end, but it also not as affordable as a normal Alesis product either. It really makes the SPD look pretty dated for about the same price if not a little less.

@@grajmahal I haven't played this, but I'm extremely impressed with what I see/hear about it. I was referring more universally, big picture, long term...
You won't find many professionals using this or any Alesis products compared to Roland, certainly not for live use.
But this unit does seem very impressive. Maybe I'm just regretting my spd-sx purchase a few months ago lol.

    • @grajmahal
      @grajmahal Před 5 lety

@@derrickh9648 Yes, I agree that most professionals wouldn't normally consider an Alesis product for live use, but I think this particular product is different. There seems to be a fair amount of buzz about it among electronic musicians and DJ's for use as a laptop replacement in live settings. And I gotta say I see no reason that it won't hold up as this is not built like their other multipads. But as much as I think it's great, I certainly wouldn't regret having purchased an spd-sx prior to this coming out. I think for anyone that is out to purchase a multipad- we all have our wants and needs. For most the Roland one is a safe bet and proven winner. There are no guarantees with this one so early in the game. And like I said, I'm not a full on "drummer"- I'm really a guitarist trying to be a one man band, that is dabbling with electronic instruments- so the extra features this brings has made a multipad a very useful tool.

Made up to see a review of this with some actual playing of the kit with it. Seems like a great tool, particularly good for buskers too.
I think I'm going to try merging my Roland TD11K with my acoustic kit to see how i get on with that. Then in October hopefully test this out at the UK Drum Show, then figure out if I could justify spending the cash on one of these.

I've got a question which hasn't been covered by any of these videos on CZcams so I'm really hoping you guys will read this :-). Let's suppose I want to load up the Alesis Strike with my own snare sample and I want it to have it's own velocity range depending on how hard I hit a pad with said sample on it. Would I need to upload 127 samples for each velocity or can I just upload one sample at a "normal" volume and the Multipad will do the rest for me?
Does the Pad Work with the strike editor software?
    Thanks in advance! :-)

You can change all the threshold and velocity parameters from the SMP!

I’ve been interested in this piece of gear for quite some time now. I was just about to order an Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad but I need a very important question answered first. I know the Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad is capable of so much more, but I plan to use it only as a drum kit. I’m now in a situation where there is a physcial space and volume limitation. There’s not enough space for an electronic drum kit. It would be great to just walk in with this pad, a stand, and a foot and hi hat controller.
    QUESTION:
When the Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad is used as/like a drum kit, is the hi hat able to be played/controlled closed, half open and sloshy? Or is it just closed or fully open?
    Thank you!
