    Great piece of gear but there are a few critical shortcomings…..1. No quantize or Undo function when loop recording. 2. No ability to beat/tempo match samples without editing and resampling. Can’t automatically tempo sync delay and other effects. Have been hoping for a version 1.4 update from Alexis, but there has been no new news about this product for quite some time now. Still a really good tool depending on your specific needs.

    Although I haven't had a lot of time to experiment with mine, I do believe there is currently a v 1.5 available. Perhaps this would fix some of the concerns others have expressed.
    I really enjoyed this video, but I wish you had discussed the "pedal" options, as I noticed you seemed to be playing a bass drum input with a floor pedal. I believe you could also have a pedal for the other side that could function as a hi-hat pedal, even if you have no electronic hi-hat to go with the kit, utilizing on board sounds.

    Two questions:
    1. Can I use a foot pedal to play the kick drum sample and a second foot pedal to keep the hi hat closed when my foot is down and open the hi hat when I lift my foot as in a physical hi hat?
    2. I would want to use the MultiPad with my DAW. Does the midi connection input movable and editable midi notes like the ones from a keyboard controller? More important, do the sounds get transported with note notes - i.e., after playing a drum part, can I disconnect the MultiPad and still hear the samples when I play back the track in the DAW? If not, is there a way to get the MultiPad's sounds into the DAW, so I can send the song out for mixing and mastering to someone who does not have his own MultiPad?

    I’ve been interested in this piece of gear for quite some time now. I was just about to order an Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad but I need a very important question answered first. I know the Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad is capable of so much more, but I plan to use it only as a drum kit. I’m now in a situation where there is a physcial space and volume limitation. It would be great to just walk in with this pad, a stand, and a foot and hi hat controller.
    QUESTION:
    When the Alesis Strike MultiPad Percussion Pad is used as/like a drum kit, is the hi hat able to be played/controlled closed, half open and sloshy? Or is it just closed or fully open?
    Thank you!

      I own the SMP for 2 years already and use it as mini drum kit together with HH and kick pedals and two additional triggers - for snare and hi-hat cymbal. While it does the job for me there are several things you should consider before buying:
      1. Only Alesis RealHat pedal works as HH pedal and this model is discontinued. You might have troubles finding it new nowadays. Some people reported that Yamaha pedal might also work after polarity switch but I haven't tried it and can't tell for sure.
      2. HH will support only Closed, Open and chick sound. No dynamics based on partially open hh supported. However loudness will change depending on how hard you hit.
      3. Wide range of kick pedals supported. No troubles here. I use Roland KT10. It's perfect.
      4. My biggest concern so far is that this device is unreliable. I had issues with corrupted SD memory card that is used as internal memory storage. Had to disassemble the SMP and replace it. It helped. A lot of people in SMP users FB group complain about unreliable performance.

    • @DannyLangstondrums
      @DannyLangstondrums Před 2 lety +3

      Hey guys, i didn't actually set up a hi hat and try it, so i'm only answering from what i did, and a bit of research. It actually has a port especially made so you can use a hi hat, with open and closed unlike the SPD-SX i use. So you CAN use one, and you can set the pads to have different velocities which fixes a big part of the problem on cheaper pads. It will have an open and closed function for sure, so you can step and change in beats, but i haven't tested how much it changed to see if you can gradually open it. It depends how particular you want to be. It will do the basic job well enough, but slowly opening for instance, i'm not sure how smooth sounding just using velocity will be.
      Again though, they do boast that you can use a hi hat with pedal, so it may be perfect

      Hey, just to add to this, you can change the sensitivity of the pads if you want to use just fingers on them, so you don't have to hit as hard.
      Also you can change velocities for the same reason. I often turn of dynamics so it makes the same sound with the same volume however hard you hit it which can help certain situations. It's definitely made for sticks but can be used for both

    Question for you?? Have you had any issues with the Alesis Strike Pad after filling up the hard drive with your own samples? I have spent hours loading samples 10 at a time, then hours programming kits, only to find out that once its a bit over 20 gig on the hard drive I lost access to any internal sound factory or user. Can't access the library! So if I try and change a sample it will disappear and I will have no sound on that pad, very frustrating. Have you ever heard of this??
    One guy at Alesis recreated the same issue but now no one in the company will talk to me and blame my samples. Everyone of those files plays 100% in Logic, Live & Pro Tools. Oh by the way Alesis was nice to start and have replaced the strike pad several times but won't admit fault with there hardware or software. I have recreated the exact same issue with all software versions 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3???
    I would only recommend the Alesis Strike MultiPad to drummers who don't want to add that many samples to the device, they rate it 30 gig + the operating system LOL Once its about 20-22 gig on drive adding a sample is like rolling the dice, it may not function the same after loading samples. Other than that and the top bumper being a harder hit required than the regular pads it has promise if the fix the hard drive access issue....

      @DannyLangstondrums Před 2 lety +1

      I'm not sure on this, but if i want to change tempo i often set different pads with different clicks that go sub to my IEM, so i just use more than one pad with different clicks, instead of hitting the same pad to change tempo. This way it's instant.
      Or you can add a phone or laptop to go into the pad directly to you or wherever and control clicks or backing tracks that way.
      Or i use a different kit (so scroll along) for different songs. This isn't instant though, there will be a second or 2 to load and it will cut any sound already playing
