In the forty-fourth episode, Lady Colin Campbell and Misha discuss what motivated her to adopt him and Dima; how she went about adopting from Russia after experiencing the horrors of the adoption/fostering system in 1980's Britain; the help she received at a time when the only well-known single woman to have hitherto adopted was Joan Crawford; and Misha's views on the subject.

I am adopted. I got bullied at school once over it and went crying to my father. He said..."What's the problem? You were chosen by us, they were accidents!! They're just jealous.." Never had another problem with it....

Lady C this was a delightful topic! My husband was adopted as a baby. His adopted mom was in her mid 30's. She always longed for children. She adored children and became a school teacher of younger children. She loved her son and he loved her so much. He stayed with her and helped with finances until he was 36 when he met me. She became my good friend and people thought she was my own mom when we went shopping together or went to lunch. We always planned to buy a big house and all live together. Sadly, she passed away this year. . Her son is the kindest man and smart with tools like Misha. A very manly man. I have always said you can tell what kind of a man a man is by the way he treats his mother and the animals around him. God bless you and your sons Lady C.

I decided to go through a reputable agency (closed adoption at the time) and I received counseling and support. I did get to see my son several times while he was awaiting his new parents and I to this day do NOT regret my decision. Years ago a co-worker of mine wanted to become a foster parent and had to take classes to do so. They of course discussed all the tragic circumstances they may come across. In one of the classes they were asked about why they were interested in fostering and a man stated quite plainly that his girlfriend was in the 'business' and making good money so he wanted to get into the 'business' as well. My co-worker cried for weeks over everything she heard. This was in the US. So sad.

I've met some really wonderful foster parents through my work as an RN, but the poor kids get bounced from family to family and somehow this is supposed to be better than stability?! By trying to adopt, I found out it's a very very broken system. How sad.

Then it was a large group home, loved that and a few years later joined the Army. Had a good self made life.

I was raised as a foster child my whole life. It really messed me up. My foster mom died when I was 19, she was my best friend. My brother died 10 yrs ago. My dad & I never got along. That was a nightmare. The rest of my family never accepted me. I have no immediate family alive. I never got married. It's hard. I'm fortunate in other ways. I have my faith. I have good close friends,. that are like family. My natural parents were around when I was young & it took a toll on me. I miss my mom, I know she really loved me. I should have adopted when I was younger. I would had been a good mom.

I can't tell you how much I loved this discussion. The outpouring of love and admiration between you two was palpable. I am delighted that the good lord brought you together. Misha, I am a genealogist and work with a lot of people who have been adopted and I've found that some of them carry feelings of rejection by their birth families which brings great pain. I think most people don't want to bring up the discussion of adoption because it may bring these negative feelings to the surface. It's a subject I'm very careful of until I know how the adopted person feels about being adopted. You are such a loving son to your mother and I can see the love she has for you in her eyes. May you find a godly woman with whom to have children. Blessings!

Dear Lady C, Can you and Misha please create a video where you talk about what your day to day life is like at the castle, currently (summer and fall) during the quarantine? Is it quiet? You have done some wonderful documentaries in the past. One of my favorites is the dinner party you gave in London with a hired butler, and chef. And you also talked about hiring staff.
Now, it would be fun to learn little details about life at the castle during this quarantine. For example, Mickey is a lap dog. Is she also a bed buddy or does she sleep in her doggie bed? And what about your fabulous cats? Do you go to the local food shops yourself or does the grocer deliver? Do you and Misha cook? It would be fun if you and Misha take your cameras into the family kitchen and talk about food...! Hope you will consider it.

Misha and Lady C...i adopted a baby girl. She wass TOTAL joy. The process had its ups and downs but the relationship was wonderful. Her birth mother tried to abort by taking drugs, no prenatal care etc. My angel had open heart surgery When She was 4. But she bounced back...faster than I did I think. She charmed the whole floor. When she was sixteen we were to discover she had cancer. We fought for 3 1/2 years. She stole the hearts of everyone on the floor. Those 3 1/2 years we got closer and closer and closer. Are hearts were knit together. She went home at 19. She was a bright comet that streaked thru my life.
Lady C - adopting is harder and more emotionally trying than giving birth.

The wife of President Eisenhower, herself half Swedish, intervened on my parents' behalf. I always knew I had been adopted - my parents had always told me that they had searched all over the world for me, & so I felt quite special. I can see the same kind of bond between you & your son. Mum, couldn’t have her own children and grandma, like your daddy, was super cautious but my momma tells me that as soon as grandma saw me she too loved me like I’d been born to the family. Unfortunately not enough babies are adopted out these days and the message should be love your child enough to give it a better chance. Lady Colin Campbell and Misha, this is fascinating, because my family moved to St. Petersburg in January 1995 until early 2000, and my sister still lives there. She helped children who were living on the streets and orphanages for years, and it was very difficult for the Russian people during that time. There have been a lot of abuse stories involving children adopted from Russia, which has made it more difficult to adopt. At the same time things have gotten much better in Russia as far as care, and many children from the orphanages and the streets have been adopted into Russian families, and she still visits the orphanages that are still there, and they are much better looked after than they used to be during those years.
