Same, I'm doing a trebuchet project where I've gotta design a release mechanism, and this is the first video I've found that shows a simple design from every angle.
Thanks for explaining it so well!! I couldn't figure out the same thing, the physics of the sling so this makes much more sense. I needed it explained in detail lol, appreciate it :)
Thank you so much for making this video, I really didn’t understand what was going on when trebuchets are shot and half the sling magically comes unhooked. Now I see how that happens
Tyler Rice What do you recommend I use for my sling material? Cut up an old shop towel or something a little more complex than that? Also if I intend to shoot a golf ball Do I really need ten pounds of counterweight on there? Or Could I use a much lighter counterweight and still get that ball to fly. I do not have a shot distance that I need to reach, just need the thing to work, not shoot and hit the ground every time which is what I’m afraid will happen when I’m done building it. Plus I’m using very lightweight plywood to construct the thing and I don’t think it can handle a ten pound counterweight, but maybe it could. I’m just not sure
@@hunterhobbs4374 Since this was over three years ago at this point, I can't remember exactly what I used, but it looks to be just a piece of extra fabric I had lying around. A towel would probably be fine, but I would recommend using one with the least amount of friction as possible. If anything, head to an arts and crafts store and pick up something like what I had in the video for like a quarter. The counterweight will depend on the length of your arm as it needs to have a balance of sorts (where the actual physics of it comes into play). After playing with some different weights, this 10 pounds ended up being perfect for mine and the distance I needed to reach. As far as the plywood problem goes, it just depends on the scale of the trebuchet. If its the size or larger of the one in the video, I would definitely recommend getting some better supplies. Of course, this will depend on how dedicated you are (ie how much money you are willing to spend) as well as how many times you plan on using it.
I had to create a slingshot for my project due Monday. Super frustrated I couldn't get the sling to shoot it forward. THIS VIDEO SAVED MY LIFE. i copied the set up of the sling and it shoots pretty well, my counterweight is only 4 lbs as instructed but THANK YOU FOR MAKIN THIS VIDEO!!!!!
Hello. I'm a 6th grade student. I have to make a catapult for a science/social studies project. I was wondering what the demensions are, and what materials you used. Please respond back as soon as possible. Thanks for the help!
This is a great project and I will use it for my son's high school project. I will appreciate if you could let me know the usual distance this trebuchet threw. Also, where did you get the wood construction done.
Hey Tyler, thanks for this video, it's awesome. I wanted to ask you something and I would really appreciate your help: I want to build a trebuchet to throw an egg 65 feet away, but I don't know where to start. There are so many variables, like the length of swing arm, mass of the counterweight, height, mass of swing arm, etc. What is that single variable that my team and I should be focused on to be closer to a successful result (landing the egg in a basket placed on the floor 65 feet away)? I would really appreciate your help, thanks!
Hey Andres, I am glad you found the video helpful! You can use this website as kind of a guideline to go off of and see some possible measurements, but the biggest things that are easy to change are the counterweight and the length of the string/rope. If you are going for 65 feet with an egg I would start with about 10lbs of counterweight, but that will depend on the trebuchet itself.
that is wrong. Wheels allow for the counterweight to travel down in a more straight path, making it much more efficient. I found that out in my research for my project lol
its all good, its just i got this project due like tomorrow and like im all frustrated lol, but your thing helped me understand how the sling itself works
Macca Green Must have had a case on my phone which covered the mic and forgot to turn it up while editing. My mum died many years ago, so I don’t think she could have heard much anyways :(
3:05 Thank you for explaining how the release mechanism works! This solve the mystery answer i've been looking for
Seriously thank you so much for this. truly changed my life by teaching me the basic fundamentals of building a sling shot.
Thank you for making this! I couldn't find a decent visual aid on the release mechanism anywhere
No problem! Glad I could help! :)

Man me too
Cant fin either
much needed video! no other video on youtube i could find explained the sling mechanism. thanks a ton this helped out
After all the videos l had to watch to see how the sling release works. You FINALLY answered my question!
Well done! 👍👍👍👍
thank you so much I had trouble with the sling at school but now this has helped me so much thank you😁
Thank you so much. 10/10 would watch when making a trebuchet again
Thanks for explaining it so well!! I couldn't figure out the same thing, the physics of the sling so this makes much more sense. I needed it explained in detail lol, appreciate it :)
Awesome job taking time to post this. I just made a trebuchet and did not know about the release!
Excellent video. Very helpful. Thanks so much.
This is truly amazing. I got an a+ in science physics! thank you sooo much!!!!!!!!!
sombre biscuts No problem! Glad I could help :)
This was actually super helpful. Thankyou
thank you so much you just saved my design mark
Can’t wait to bring to class!
great vid man

Hunter Hobbs I was in the same position, glad I could help :)

You are right CZcams doesn't have many good videos over this .... thanks!
No problem! Glad I could help! :)
hello, I am also making a similar project and I am doubt about the launch angle, what is yours and how could you adjust your launch angle? please
any ideas on what angle to place the pin at the end of the sling to get an angle of release close to 30 degrees?
Is the angle of the bar the sling is attached to relevant? And if so, what angle?
good shit my friend
how do you put the wheels in? Do you use an axle or do make each of the wheels spin individually?
Thanks it really helped

what measures did you use for your wood ?
how far does this launch i need to make it no bigger than 2x2x2 and it has to go 75 feet
I have a class I require my students to make one. I would love it if you could add a slow mo shot of the pouch releasing the ball please!
This is a great project and I will use it for my son's high school project. I will appreciate if you could let me know the usual distance this trebuchet threw. Also, where did you get the wood construction done.
cool video
After watching task master, my mind instantly went to a trebuchet. Wonder how big it would need to be to fling a coconut
What type of screws did u use for release mechanism?
How is the pivot bolt put on the wood?
Cool 😎
helpful vid but what are 'these little things' at 3:40

Virtualtrebuchet.com can help you get your references.
What are the dimensions of this?
I NEED HELP W THE LAUNCH AND SLING
Good job +1
Thank you :)
I do see why this is more powerfull i has like a baseball throw in stead of a arched lob of a catapult .
Simple build what grade u recieved?
What is the metal piece called that straps onto the 10 pound weight. The thing that holds it to the wood and is adjustable
little late but those are called hose clamps
Can it launch a 90kg projectile at over 300 meters?
On the scale that that is you would need about an 8 pound counterweight to get the best results
No
You watched the video right
You need to put a joint on the weight. This will optimize your design!
If you have a heavier weight, will it go farther
Kiwihead only to a point
finally a decent trebuchet vidio. did i spell that right?
@K Walker Thanks for replying to a two-year-old comment, I certainly hope my spelling has improved since then.
This guy’s voice sounds like 3 different people I know
Looks dangerous if you have to push it down to release
Hey could you whisper a little quieter please? I can still hear my thoughts
Tyler Rice please reply and say vegemite
You are also losing power because it is rocking on its wheels. Lock the wheels down and you should get a better throw.
that is wrong. Wheels allow for the counterweight to travel down in a more straight path, making it much more efficient. I found that out in my research for my project lol
ethan martin is right u need the wheels to allow the counterweight to travel down in a straight line. Lol learn some real stuff
good god could he talk any quieter
Sorry man, recorded this on my phone and must of had a case on it. Didn't notice it when I was originally editing.
