Trebuchet Sling Release Mechanism Guide

  • This video gives an overview of two types of sling release mechanism. It first studies the standard angled pin release in detail, which is triggered by sling angle. It then shows how you can do an arm angle triggered release, as used in a multiple rotations trebuchet. Hopefully, this will give fellow trebuchet builders some ideas.

    I was laying in bed, thinking about trebuchets. Wondering how you “press the trigger”. My search led me here. You answered my question. You also reminded me why I love physics. Thank you for the video.

    Great job! Well done. You have answered the questions that others gloss over. I am a physics teacher reworking a trebuchet project to meet the educational spirit and intent of the standards rather than simply the letter. Your videos are instrumental in transforming this from a play project to a hands on educational activity. Fun yes, but with physics rolled in, not excluded. Thanks, you have saved me many hours of research. Similarly I know my students will benefit immensely

    Good video. I hadn't quite figured how the release worked. Even though the physics are complicated, it is doable by trial and error.

    Hey, i need some help understanding the ecuation at 1:36, can anyone help me with it? I read it as: θ=a*tan(1/μ) but have no idea what that (a) means.

    Now i am even more confused than before. There is nothing in this vid abt practical application or testing and adjusting release points. Video for egg-heads only not for a normal dude just tryna learn how to build and tune a tribuchet in his back yard.
