I just love how James Gunn has his own people he brings into every project he does. The loyalty his friends towards him shows what kind of man he is. Marvel was so wrong to fire him years ago.
I mean all directors are like that. Nolan, tarantino, scorsese etc

It was a publicity thing. Fire and rehire just a show.
Directors do this for a reason, they show loyalty to actors and actors show loyalty back. Like how Frank Darabont rehind the same cast for years including Jeffery Dehmund(Shawshank, the mist, the void), then Jeffery got cast in The walking dead and his pull had them bring in Darabont. Then darabont brought in his crew up reused actors who ended up being Carol, Andrea, Marteniez, Merle and tdog, then if they get cast in anything interesting going forward they can have pull and bring him in. Rinse and repeat. Named actors have incredible pull on sets, if you can make good with a hundred of them who are out in the wild trying to pull gigs, you have run over the industry.

The facial expressions of young Rocket in Vol. 3 was amazing and I had no idea Sean Gunn did them! Definitely was a tear-jerker
He didn't do the facial expressions, he had literally nothing to do with that, that's what VFX studios did. He merely voiced him.

Gotta say that Guardians 3 is a masterpiece. It’s James’ best film. The music in the film feels like a character. It’s a film I’m sure to watch many times. The special effects with Groot are next level. The whole Rocket arc is amazing. Films simply cannot get better than this one.

@RealVentures the second one is great but failed because of the lack of marketing, and the first one had great marketing, but sucked

I think the general disappointment around the first one hurt the second one, as well (and the confusion around whether it was a sequel or a reboot, which...I guess it's loosely speaking a narratively free-standing sequel). And the pandemic, obviously. And being R-rated (but with a more or less PG-13 sized budget) with all those other things working against it may have helped creatively, but not so much with the box office numbers. R can be a selling point in and of itself, but it requires a solid marketing strategy (like Deadpool).
James and Sean are the most wholesome Hollywood brothers team. I love that every one of James Gunn's movies feels like a family project made with the same group of people. There's such joy in his films, a true love of filmmaking.
James Gunn could have been an amazing DJ with his immaculate taste.

Slither was the first horror movie I ever watched and absolutely loved. Hearing now that James Gunn directed it and it makes sense. It was an amazing movie.

my favorite James Gunn fact is that he wrote both of the live action Scooby-doo movies. I actually love those movies as guilty pleasures because I grew up watching them, so in a way I've been a James Gunn fan for most of my life without realizing it

I am not DC fan (not a Marvel fan either), but what I think DC is better than Marvel is DC allows all good directors fulfill themselves no matter the types. R rated comedy, dark, epic. You can feel the variety in DC, that is exactly Marvel doesn't have.

It kills me when I hear people talk about Sean Gunn basically riding his big brothers coattails like Sean doesn't pull his own weight. The most beloved character in the Guardians MCU cast is mocapped by Sean Gunn, he brings him to life and Kraglin's story arc is awesome. If I were a director and my brother was an incredible talent it would be stupid of me not to invite him to help me craft my movie.
I had Sean Gunn sign my copy of "Tromeo and Juliet." The man was a sweetheart.

Gunn is easily one of my favorite working directors, love how he makes sure to include the dp’s ect when asking the auteur question since a film is a lot of moving parts and people coming together . Sean also seems super cool, loved him as weasel lol.

I actually met Sean Gunn yesterday, it was so cool! He was at a comic con near me and I wanted to go and meet him, he was really nice!
Was super skeptical when he was tasked to lead the next DC universe. After watching Vol. 3, I'm super confident DC is now in safe hands. Upset about Henry Cavill's departure but since it's a "young Superman" (supposedly), I guess it had to happen.
I’m in the same boat. I hate that Cavill was booted, but if they are planning on telling a good Superman story (which instilled confidence in me with GOTG 3) I’m more down for a good superman movie even though cavill wont be apart of it.
The upside to Cavill being booted is he's doing Warhammer 40k stuff now, which is incredibly exciting
At least we’re getting a Superman movie. There was a long period of time where we not only didn’t know if Cavill was coming back, but we had NO Superman in the silver screen.
It’s not ideal, but it’s a massive step up.
Remember, Cavill was already gone. The only reason it seems otherwise is be ause the Rock stuck his nose in. All before Gunn really took over.

James & Sean Gunn, amazing duo of brothers just like Anthony & Joe Russo, Christopher & Jonathan Nolan (who are not a official combined directing duo but are just brothers) and the not-related-to-each-other-but-just-the-same-name Daniels Kwan & Scheinert, except that Sean does not direct. This may be James' swan song for the MCU but in my opinion the Guardians of the Galaxy film trilogy will always stood out among any MCU trilogies made.

They are his frequent collaborators, so it's not that surprising. What impresses me is he remembers the characters that they played.

But y'know, they all made it through pretty much unscathed - even surprisingly much-maligned director Craig Mazin, who's career has skyrocketed after Chernobyl and The Last Of Us on HBO. Long Live Minute Man and Alien Orphan! 😁
