Cool video buddy , got to agree with you the Typhon Mega brushed really is a looker . I love that line of buggies have all 3 , the 6s , 3s and the most recent the brushed version. The Typhon Mega , is the best looking of the 3 . I basically ended up modifying it , the end result was a insanely fast , easy to control , and fun as hell to drive . As far as durability , its built like a Sherman tank.

I also have the Mega but got the BLX too and I absolutely love the 3S BLX out of the box on an 80c lipo... The mega got a brushless upgrade and next it's getting the BLX gearbox and maybe some Hoons, lol... Awesome platform for Sure! 😁👍🏼

Added a max10 combo to mine, drive train seems fine so far.19mph stock/45mph with 17 pinion on 3s. On the other hand, the shocks are unrepairable leaking bastards. Thanks for sharing.

The problem with brushed motors is they break before you wear out your tires.
Brushed motors are a consumable part, which many customers don't realize until it's too late.

(Yes, I know this is an old video). You’re right, “brushed matters.” Everything is more expensive with brushless, (buggy, battery, charger, bag) and for a young kid, LiPo maintenance can be a lot to keep track at first. There’s something to be said for the plug n play aspect of nimh batteries. No balancing, no storage charging etc. just plug in and have fun. For a kid in a small yard, brushed Nihms to brushed 2s when the get comfortable is just fine. Great channel guys!

These brushed mega arma cars do a LOT better on dirt and road, much more fun there, this car looks like the v2 too, the v3 has an improved servo and transmitter

I put my stock mega electronics in a WLtoys 12428
I like it I been thinking about picking one up honestly. I got all the megas except the typhon. And I'm working on all the BLX line up so far iv gotten all the 3s and 4s and I'm half way through the 6s line up and got the Kraton and outcast 8s so far when it comes to arrma. My favorite is the 4s outcast I absolutely love that truck. And out of the mega rigs my favorite is the granite it's a bad ass truck but what's strange is my Granite mega v3 done 26 mph out the box on 2s and 21.9 on the Nimh but it was on the road. But I got 3 mega granites atm and two of them are brushless now I love working on my own rigs I love trying out new motors and ESC's but it does get expensive lmao. Atm I'm trying out a hobbywing QuicrunBL120 3s esc I got it connected to my spectrum 3660 sized 3300kv and it outruns my blx 3s granite 🤣🤣. But that is expected anyway the BLX 3s runs a 3200kv 3660 and the 4s rigs run a 3668 2800ish I believe I gotta look it at again to make sure but I do know it's the 2grand kv. But on take off the BLX ran Granite is just a hair faster it's barely noticable but the mega / hobbywing spectrum powered granite passes it everytime. Top speed so far with the spectrum 3300kv n the Quicrun 120 is 56mph on the nose. And I waterproofed the Hobby wing esc as well with silicone electronics spray so far so good. I love Arrma rigs but Traxxas has em beat on bashing though.
I made a plate and raised the body to put a 185blx and motor in, upgraded the gear box. I'm running it on 4s turnigy graphene battery and it is an absolute beast of a car

Can’t wait to see the brushless version when your done. Please get a more accurate reading on the vehicles speed, by not getting reading in grass. The street will do just fine. Or a road. Especially when every video will have a different length of grass, thus resulting in unreliable results. And now I gotta ask, do you ever drive in your videos? I always see your buddy testing out your vehicles before you do. I get, you want to do commentary but we also need your opinions on these items. Love seeing the BUSCH in the background! I used to drink that randomly and actually liked it. But I stopped drinking 17 yrs ago
I drive in every single one of my videos. A good majority of my videos are just me alone. There’s even a clip in this video of me driving it while Ethan is filming.

Very enjoyable vid. I have an old Turnigy Trackstar 120 esc and 1900kv motor I used in a Ofna LXe1 and was wondering if any of you think I could repurpose it into my Mega? Definitely going to stay on 2 or 3s.

I like that green as well also you are running on grass which could take away some mph's from your test. I do not have an Arrma yet so this could be the one. I already have a brushless motor, esc on stand by, who knows...thanks for the video and test.

Hello, I have an identical one but I occupy a battery that lasts longer, which one do you recommend?

Noob question, do you bed in brushed motors? If I run first battery in at half throttle will it help the motor? I've seen people run motors in a cup of water off the vehicle? This seems nuts to me!
I’ve never done anything like that. Just run it.
So is this completely the same as the brushless or does it have other differences jw bc I need a buggy thinking the brushless but if I can let my son run the crap outa it brushed then when he's done ill brushless it as long as it not weaker or anything
Wheels and tires are different. Diffs and input shafts are different. I believe the 3s has a driveshaft brace as well.
On this same car but the brushed version if I was to run a 2s LiPo battery do I need to change anything on the inside?
Just the jumpers on the ESC. Change it from NiMH to LiPo
We have that mega using a motor 32kv esc from a Arrma Big rock truck 3s swap put slicks on it and took it to the track where all our local rc guys go and it hangs with all of the best $1k rc cars out there.
We only bought it for the frame not the speed. we added the speed. Now it's better then a lot of more costly cars . it handles so nice!!

The battery/ charger that is comes with is not great. I’ve never used either one.
My Dog was chasing my Mega 550 Granite. I wasn't going full throttle so he could keep up. He was So Soar and So Stiff for the next 4 days. He's not a Young Pup anymore but 11yrs. old. Poor guy. He's been doing better but have to keep him inside while I run it now. But boy was he Happy chasing it, not so happy when he had to pay for it..

Debating between this for my son or spend the extra since I'd be switching the batteries out anyway to get him the 3s brushless and just run it on 50% untill he's used to it. I'm new to RC so have no idea what would you do ?

Let's see the brushless version get a Castle Creations.Im thinking about getting one and putting my Side winder 4 in it 4600 kv I know its a 10th scale moter but it should do the job because the buggy is not quite an 1/8 scale.
I love the looks and size but that much for not even 20mph consistently is a hard pill to swallow. I get that it's a good upgradable platform but damn it man.! Great video btw always love them. 👍🍻

My Typhon 550 Mega came with a Spektrum SLT3. Is this a better transmitter? I want to upgrade to brushless as well.

Probably not. It’s not really an issue of removing heat. I just don’t think the motor windings can handle that much voltage/current for any real length of time.
I actually just sold my mega, cost me almost $90 to even try to get the brushless gear ratio, it comes with a freaking 91T spur. To get it to be a "BLX" version, you need a $50 spur, a $8 anodized shaft splined thing, and around $30 in tierod parts, not worth it, the BLX is definitely the way to go. I will say, if you want a 2-fer, the BIG ROCK is the best one to get, it's literally a typhon with different wheel hubs/body, so you can just get the hubs and put 1/8 buggy tires on it if you wanted to. Oh, not to mention the $110 for the brushless motor/ESC. Def save the money and get a 3S arrma, though I hear the 6s versions are not that durable and bend a lot.
The V3 has all the metal upgrades parts. All you need to do is throw a brushless system of your choice in it.

you still need a motor mount and slipper assembly/ pinion at the very least to run 3s brusless dependably if it has metal diffs like the v3 senton. I have around 400 in my senton mega with a blx conversion and I got the blxx motor and esc for 100 bucks. I love tinkering too though so no biggie.
I still have the stock Mega slipper in my granite with a 4s system haha, does 50+ on 3s. So far so good

@@MudMonsterRacing4 pretty much everything is stock Mega driveline wise other than a 27t pinion and Max10 SCT-A ESC/Motor combo. I added a wheelie bar, and some Duratrax wheels/tires.
1. The V3 has metal diffs. My Kraton 4S has plastic diffs. My other Typhon has a 4S brushless system in at and I didn’t change anything other than the motor/ESC. It needs taller gearing though.

I ran mine on a 3s and the motor started smoking lol. I'm upgrading the motor to a brushless system that will take a 6s battery

@@10thScaleGarage yes, stock diffs. Put the 3s spur/pinion housing with the hot racing adjustable mount, 3s slipper conversion to 0.8 mod gearing
Also. It doesn't get nearly as hot as the 3s does. I have 2 3s models as well

They're running it in decent length grass. It would be faster on dirt / pavement. Plus I question if the transmitter was limited and overlooked somehow.

Why would you do a gps speed test on grass?
It’s an off-road buggy, so I did an off road speed test. 95% of the time I run this off-road. I’m not concerned with how fast it goes on water.

@@10thScaleGarage well to my surprise both esc and motor lasted an entire 3s 5k mah battery at the last mins of the battery motor was smelling really bad and went into limp mode so I guess its dead 😂 esc wasnt that hot tho which was a surprise for me
I'm still afraid to buy an Arrma, I've herd so many different stories that I'm just sticking with Traxxas, I know most of the weak points and addressed them, Arrma eh idk yet. Maybe I'll pick one up when I get some extra money.
It’s crazy how different some people’s experiences are. I have an arrma outcast 8S that gives me nothing but trouble but other people swear by them. Meanwhile I have vehicles from other brands that people seem to have all kinds of issues with that I never experience. There’s just too many variables to say definitively “yes buy this” or “no this this trash”

So I put the New STOCK ESC in the Granite Mega 550. Using the Same 5200 2s I used for the After Market ESC. I got a Whole 10 Minutes of Full Power before it Quit.
The AM ESC, I get 15 Minutes of Full Power and another 15 of Half.
The Stock ESC Got Just as HOT in those 10m as the AM ESC does after the 30min. So does the Motor. Needless to say, I am NOT Impressed with Arrma's Electronics. 2 Trucks, the Mega and the Voltage and Both have Shit electronics. Went through 2 2n1's with the Voltage and a Stripped Servo. And now the Megas ESC is Also Shit. UNLESS Anyone Knows how to Reprogram it. ( ?)
I’m not sure you would need or want to program it, unless you’re talking about throttle end points.

I knew these where slow but 16 mph? I personally don’t think they should be making these at all. Just too heavy. They had the right idea back in the day with BLS. A cheap brushless motor that could just handle the weight. Or make a 560-570 size motor if such a thing exists. Brushed motors are just weird.
I have a Typhon mega that I put a brushless system in, with no other upgrades other than a bigger pinion.

I mean, it was fresh out of the box. This is also the second Typhon Mega I’ve owned. I also own a granite mega and the speed is about the same between all of them. Maybe yours is just the lucky exception! That’s awesome.
